Konami: No MGS4 hardware bundle for UK

Last week, Konami US confirmed that the "VERY, VERY Limited Edition" Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3 hardware bundle would be coming to the States, and would be available only through Konami's online store for $599, with preorders commencing May 19. The coveted bundle includes a gunmetal grey...

Last week, Konami US confirmed that the "VERY, VERY Limited Edition" Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3 hardware bundle would be coming to the States, and would be available only through Konami's online store for $599, with preorders commencing May 19. The coveted bundle includes a gunmetal grey 40GB PS3, a matching DualShock 3 controller, and a copy of Snake's swan song: the soon-to-be-released Metal Gear Solid 4.

While Europeans were left wondering if such a bounty would be bestowed upon them, Play.com announced a MGS4 limited edition which would also include a "6-inch Old Snake 'Olive Drab' action figure, The Making of Metal Gear Solid 4 documentary on Blu-ray Disc, [and] Official Metal Gear Solid 4 soundtrack" for a whopping £69.99.

Unfortunately for UK Snake lovers, there will not be any MGS limited edition bundles coming to the British Isles, with a Konami UK spokesperson confirming to GameSpot UK today that "no bundles other than the limited edition Play.com figurine set have been planned for the UK."

There is a hardware bundle coming from SCEE, but this hardly counts as it will contain just the standard version of the game, a standard black 40GB PS3, and a black Sixaxis controller.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will launch worldwide, rather unstealthily, on June 12.


You won't be seeing this for sale in the UK any time soon.

    Uhm... news to Willie-the-pimp... the bundle is coming with the new DUAL 3... ever read CURRENT NEWS? the game is also rumble enabled so you'll be playing it WITH RUMBLE. And I'm sorry to my european buddies... don't feel too sad, Sony's just being the back stabbers they always are...

    How gay is that, sony again stabs europeans in the back and will continue stabbing even though MORE FUC**** UNITS WERE SOLD IN EUROPE THAN AMERICA AND CANADA PUT TOGHETHER. (Wikipedia 4 life lol).

    This has nothing to do with Sony folks, it was a Konami spokesperson that said it. Also, the fact that its a 40Gb bundle is because the 40 Gb version is the only one available in Europe now, it was only announced in like October or something. However I'm happy with my Eu launch 60Gb model and can't wait for MGS4 Getting the play.com limited edition XD

    six hundred bucks for a system is just a rip off. you can get them on amazon right now for less than four hundred bucks. think about it. i bought my 60 GB ps3 for $430 & it works like a charm.

    Is it really any surprise that us brits aren't getting a special edition? look at it this way. When MGS2 was released over in the states and japan in late 2001,we had to wait until March 02' to get a copy and when they got MGS3 in late 2004,we had to wait until March 05'. So in all honesty,Konami propably doesn't care what we think if their gonna keep making the same mistakes when dealing with european gamers.

    I'm really pissed off about this! Once again Europe gets screwed. I sometimes get the impression that Sony don't give a toss about Europe as they always seem to concentrate on Japan or the USA.

    I haven't got a PS3 but I'm planning to get one this year. This bundle is interesting enough. And surely Sony wants a hug of revenue, that've been the weakness of PS3 since; the price.
    Anyway will it be released in Asia outside Japan?

    Why do we pay more money in the uk and we dont get the 80GB PS3 or this bundle. Thats why xbox is the best, they treat us just like the US we get everything they get. But i will be buying a secound hand 60GB PS3 just for MGS4 its worth it.

    we're still getting palmed off with the old stocks of sixaxis controllers rather than the DS3 .... but sony know that europe have a love affair with the Playstation and they could remove the bluray playback and it would still sell .... blind brand loyalty !!
    in the US i can't understand why people buy the 360 when it's only $50 more for the ps3 .. but here in europe i can't understand why people buy the PS3 considering it's $200 more than a 360 pro !
    once sony starts treating us with a little respect so that we get BC, DS3 and a sensible price i will get a PS3 .... till then swivel !!

    its very simple, In the uk Sony 's PS3 is doing very well, however in america their is a lot of catching up to do so Sony tend to put more effort into that area.

    Why a 40 Gb ps3, why not an 80 Gb version instead? i wish sony would stick with the 60 gig because it had better backwards compatibility.

    Oh wow game companies that are from the east fail Europe again...seriously Nintendo pissed me off with Brawl and made me get freeloader, now the only game I really thought would ever make me get a PS3 at such a high price in the UK isn't coming with a decent bundle now?     Well i see this as both a bad and good thing. Bad because well Konami would be losing out on some major profits but good as the fans out the UK won't have to be subjected to a rip off price tag bundle of getting a $599 40GB ps3 that doesn't even have all the capabilities of the much cheaper and bigger hardrive 80GB version!

    So wait, they won't get the 80GB MGS4 bundle ($500) or the 40GB MGS4 LE bundle ($600)? Well that kinda sucks. The LE bundle is overpriced and stupid in the first place, so that's not a huge deal. But the 80GB bundle getting sacked kind of sucks. Sure, they still get a 40GB system that comes bundled with the game, just like the GTA IV bundle. So it could be worse, but that does kinda suck.
