Mastiff Games, a San Francisco-based publisher, has acquired the video game licence for the Major League Eating competitions.

Major League Eating oversees "all top eating events" in America, including the July 4 hot-dog eating contest, the world deep-fried asparagus eating championship, and La Costena jalapeņo-eating contest.

According to the announcement, "Major League Eating: The Game features the world's greatest gurgitory athletes competing across 12 different food types. Built much like a fighting game, MLE: The Game requires players to show brilliant onscreen eating; a mastery of offensive and defensive weapons including burps, belches, and mustard gas."

The "head woof" at Mastiff, Bill Swartz, commented, "Major League Eaters aren't just athletes, they are the people who built America."

The company has yet to announce a release window or platforms for Major League Eating: The Game.

Perfect for the Wii fitness board. Measure how much you consumed in 5 minutes... Brilliant.

I'm not too hopeful about it, but this could make for a pretty fun minigame collection for Wii. It's not like that's been overdone. ;-)

But seriously, I don't see any other way that a game like this could be made. If done right, it could be fun, but it'll probably end up in the budget bin for $20 after a couple weeks.

It is interesting to muse possible gameplay mechanics:
    Pizza intake gauge
    Burger eating combo
Epic timed button events for that last hot dog

Really? They must have taught us the wrong in school. Apparently Jefferson, Washington, and Franklin didn't do s***.

That might be the best...wait....most horrible idea i ever heard of.
I bet this game is too powerful for consoles because of the blur, throw up, and fart effects.

This would only be worth buying if it was a sandbox type game where you walk around to different food contest and get sponsors like Nathans or Oscar Myer. Then you have to take out hits on the heathy cooks on the Food Network such as Giada or Rachael Ray; Paula would be ok, she cooks with butter and pure fatback. GTA would have a run for its money.

I can imagine the game mechanics involving not eating too fast, a "hold it in" mini-game, and perhaps utilizing the Wiimote to move your character's abdomen around to fit more food into his/her stomach. This still sounds like a ridiculous license, though.

For the same price as the game you could buy like a hundred hot dogs and be a fat ass in real life

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I don't think I could justify picking up this disc, but if it was on live arcade, I would at least download the demo version, just for the weirdness factor. I am extremely curious as to what they think they can do with this. Button masher I guess?

No college lacrosse game yet but we have this?

I was just about to write that down DalphinYY. What a complete waste of silicon and plastic. I wonder if it will take advantage of 1080 resolution so we can watch the globules of mushy hot dog fall out of their jowels and be lodged in their triple chins in HD?
