FIFA 08 passes the million mark

2007 looks set to be the second year in a row of table-topping sales for the FIFA series. EA Sports' football franchise has become the first game of 2007 to sell a million copies at retail in the UK, according to a statement from the company. FIFA 07 was the top-selling game of 2006, according to figures released in January of this year. It's not yet clear if FIFA 08 will repeat that feat for 2007, as there is still lots of shopping yet to be done this year.

An EA spokesperson said that the success of this year's game was due to FIFA 08's new engine, expanded league licensing, and the fact that it now features the FA Cup. The spokesperson also couldn't resist the the opportunity to stick the knife into the "gameplay issues" of FIFA 08's chief rival, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.

    Wow, FIFA must sell really well over seas, no one I know has it. Besides which, I dislike EA very, very, much. Go 2K SPORTS!

    They both have their good points
    pro evo has the gameplay
    fifa has the lisceneds players and be a pro online
    i hav them both

    this years pro evo was a severe dissappointment but the last 2 iterations of PES are still 100 times better than this years FIFA!! so what if theyre "last gen" at least with them we can still get big 4 vs 4 multiplayers on the go with all my mates in one room. FIFAS catching up but it has no way near enough.

    Yeah, FIFA is better than PES this year. But, how come it was last year based on sales figure?

    FIFA is popular outside US, but MADDEN is popuar in US.
    MADDEN sold an average of 2.5 millions a year.

    Putzwapputzen. If you didnt know that fotball is the worlds most populer sport and that Fifa 07 was the the best in the series and that PES has gone down hill fast since last year then you dont know much of what happens outside of the US. This doesnt come as such a huge surprise to me. I just thought it would have sold even more at this point.

    I knew this years fifa would do well i can't stop playing it at the moment, it's a fantastic football sim and i take my hat off to EA they've finally made the best fifa yet.
    What this years Pro Evo should have been.
