Aerosmith headlining Guitar Hero IV?

Source: An article on Aerosmith's next album on Billboard.com states that Guitar Hero IV will be "dedicated" to the Boston band's music.

What we heard: Since its inception, the Guitar Hero series has followed a trend of increasing diversity. Guitar Hero II provided more songs from more bands than the original, and represented a broader range of music than its predecessors. While the full tracklist hasn't been confirmed yet, Guitar Hero III promises to continue that trend with a sampling of international hits and more than 70 songs in total.

So when Billboard.com reported that Guitar Hero IV would be built on Aerosmith's music, it seemed--no offense to the band--like a step backward. There is some room for misinterpreting the report, but not a whole lot.

"Besides the album, Aerosmith is also working closely with the makers of Guitar Hero IV," the article states, "which will be dedicated to the Boston group's music. 'I don't know much about the technical part of it,' Perry says, 'but artistically we're working hand in hand.'" (Emphasis added.)

Aerosmith has a prior association with the series, having contributed its song "Last Child" to the Guitar Hero II soundtrack. Still, the idea of handing over the next full-fledged installment in the series to a single band is borderline absurd.

But even with Perry's former status as one of the hard-partying Toxic Twins along with lead singer Steven Tyler, he's still not likely to concoct the idea of an Aerosmith-exclusive Guitar Hero from nowhere. It's much more likely that Activision would produce a Guitar Hero spin-off for the band, something along the lines of Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the '80s, or perhaps an answer to Rock Band's downloadable albums. Whether that offering would be platform-exclusive, as Encore was, remains to be seen.

The official story: RedOctane representatives had not returned requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: A tentative not bogus, provided that the game in question is a spin-off, instead of the real Guitar Hero IV.

You know, a game like that would be kinda boring.... I mean, it'd be the most redundant game ever to be played... and no offense, but I can only stand so much of Steven Tyler's voice before I'll just give up.

Since all the systems except PS2 will feature download-able content it would be cool if they do like Rock Band and have huge chunks of one band's music that can be downloaded. Me, I would personally love to see a whole bunch of Rush songs. I'm disappointed that they haven't announced a Rush song for the game yet, YYZ is one of my favorites from GHII. Doesn't matter much since I already pre-ordered the WII version. Can't wait tll October.

I think that they meen Aerosmith's STYLE of music, more modern type of rock.

A spin off I suppose would be okay , I highly doubt red octane would make a full sequel dedicated to one band, I think this is like that idea for rock band or GH111 where you will be able to download whole albums.

Maybe there is some truth in that article. A downloadable song pack with only Aerosmith songs maybe? RedOctane have the business sense to know that they can not dedicate the next GH on one band, they would lose out on so many potential target audiences.

I wouldn't mind an expansion game like Rocks The 80s dedicated to Aerosmith, but an entire sequel? NO!

hopefully this wont be a huge series like mario party.....the series dies after the 3rd one unfortunaly and this series may have the same future too =(

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think the main thing that gets my goat is how the 3rd isn't even out yet, and they're already talking about the 4th game. I mean, I hope they keep churning these games out, because more Guitar Hero games means, well, more Guitar Hero. I don't want to fork out money for some Guitar controllers (which aren't exactly cheap) and not use them as much as I could. There are heaps of DDR games, so, y'know.

An Aerosmith focused GH game wouldn't be that bad. They could do a lot better, but they could do a whole lot worse. Aerosmith have some varied tunes, so they'd be pretty fun to play, and seeing a computerized Steve Tyler strutting himself on stage would be rather entertaining (in my opinion).

If this is true, I doubt it'd be Guitar Hero 4, it'd probably be another in the Encore series. Either way, its more Guitar Hero. Which in my books, is awesome.

Still, I think Rock Band's "downloadable albums" is a much better idea.

it's too soon to think about GH 4, but dream on and the last four songs on their "rocks" album would be a welcome addition to the game.

Guitar Hero 3 hasn't ebeen came out on stores and now think about Guitar Hero 4. My question is that why they want to do all the guitar hero 4 just only Aerosmith and it sound lame

  • haesuse

    Posted Sep 5, 2007 2:03 pm GMT

guitar hero has always been about diversity, cool music and specialy new music. for those interested just go and check out the number of downloads that Exies, Drist and few other bands earned based on their appearances in GH series. Sticking one band, no matter how huge they are (considered), is just gonna kill their sales, and we've seen how that worked out before. example, not really in music games was NFS: porsche unltd. sold like crap, was like crap.
    they might wanna rethink this!

I hate sidebar articles because they don't show latest comments and you have to go looking for them...

anyhow, don't care don't care don't care, Guitar Hero this, Rockband that, they never STFU about these games, though I like Guitar Hero, I just don't ever want to hear about it as much as much as they write about it

"A tentative not bogus, provided that the game in question is a spin-off, instead of the real Guitar Hero IV." That sentence says it all, no way they would dedicate IV to one band. More likely a download or an expansion. With that said I'm not sure I would get it. Not the biggest Aerosmith fan.

  • Apollo5000

    Posted Sep 5, 2007 11:12 am GMT

I like Aerosmith a great deal, but having a Guitar Hero game centred on only one band seems pretty foolish no matter what band that may be. And personally i doubt this is true. Just too stupid a move for a company to take.

  • TheGrandMiG

    Posted Sep 5, 2007 10:50 am GMT

sounds like a spinoff to me, but focusing on directly aerosmith? sure aerosmith has some of the best tunes around, but i want to rock out to other bands too.

  • Strike_Zer0

    Posted Sep 5, 2007 10:44 am GMT

I have mixed feelings over this. I love Aerosmith and have no interest in GH. So for me this actually makes me want to get the game more but I know I'll be in the minority there and most will be put off by this. Though I do think that is just some confusion. I'm betting the game's just going to have quite a few Aerosmith songs in it in addition to a bundle of other assorted stuff.
