Microsoft's popular RTS will get Asian Dynasties add-on this fall; Big Huge Games taking dev reins from Ensemble.
Since its launch in October 2005, Age of Empires III has been a success story for Microsoft Game Studios. Through March, the latest installment in the long-running real-time strategy series has sold nearly 875,000 copies in the US, according to the NPD Group. Its first expansion, Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs, also did fairly well, selling roughly 158,000 copies domestically since it hit retail last October.
Today, Microsoft announced that AOEIII, as fans call it, is expanding again. Due in the fall for XP and Vista PCs, Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties will take the series to the Orient, introducing three new civilizations. Though Microsoft isn't revealing exactly which Asian nations will be featured in the game, it did say that it will be set during the period from the late-15th to the late-19th centuries.
The Asian Dynasties will also introduce several new gameplay features, including new methods of winning the game and fostering commerce. It will also sport 15 new wonders based on Asian history, and "remixes" of several Asia-based maps from previous Age of Empires games.
With longtime AOE developer Ensemble Studios hard at work on the forthcoming Halo Wars, development of the expansion is being handled by Big Huge Games, maker of the award-winning Rise of Nations series. can someone please please please tell me if you need to have the war chiefs installed to be able to install this game?
This game is going to be amazing just like the rest of the AOE games!!Mac users stop **** because you bought a crap!!! If you want to spend that kind of money and play games buy an Alienware!!!!!!!!! They rock and are far better then any MAC on the market!!!!!!!!!
woot! go AOE! i'm thinking china is gonna be in there, they were pretty powerful at that time, silk road
Where's the love for us MAC users? Guess I'll keep playing AOEIII and the get the warchiefs expansion soon.
As a avid player of AOE III and the expansion, I am looking forward to the Asian culture to be added to a great game.
Sounds interesting, its amazing to think that it only came out in 2005 yet it is still so popular. I can't wait to see the new weapons we are going to get with the asians.
A good idea I believe. Maybe more expansion will bring AOEIII up in line with it's predecessor, AOEII.
wow. this game is expanding.. even though not many ppl play the game online.. that is why i left it.. sorry..
Wow, I need to get the first expansion still.. Hopefully this one won't be too expensive cause I don't want to have to pay a ton on just expansions.
For all of you guys saying india, it was part of the british empire when the game is set, so it doesnt seem likely they'd have their own faction
I like Age of Empires, but my favorites are Age of Kings and Conquerors, because the game-play and mobility are more simple. AEO3 is very difficult, only a good graphics and images.
I hope that Microsoft will bring Age of Empires III to X360 soon, Since I think C&C3 was a good game even though I hate EA.
I guess the Chinese and Japanese will be in it. The remaining one might not be Korean - I would guess India or Malay.
i donno, Command and Conquer 3 still sits pretty strong with me. I might pick this up when its in the bargain bin.
the campaigns that may be included could be the many battles during china's resistance against british rule, meiji era japan going through the turbulent years or the russio-japanese war when russia actually captured small southern island of japan (which russia continued to own during WW2 and even today)
i got a feeling that the campaign would feature a struggling Qing Dynasty fighting off foreign influences and a Boxer Rebellion, while Japan would be forced to open its doors to the Western Countries
Yeah AOE2 was awsome but too bad that microjunk only put some money in making it look pretty instate of the gameplay...
