Amazon lists Wii U for December 21

It will more than likely be $399

Pay $500 to play the same third party games on PS3 or 360? Makes no sense?

350 would have been the most fair price. 500 dollars makes no sense at all, that's the max I would pay for a MS or Sony console next-gen, and they are going to have top notch tech.

Sounds like they may be rushing development of the console if they're wating till 4 days before Xmas to release it. The hardcore Nintendo nut balls will buy it, and maybe some parents for their kids. But this thing is gonna tank hard in the long run. I don't need to know what tech's inside it, don't need to know how much it costs. All I need to see is that it's NOT a next-gen system. It's an expansion to the Wii and should've been sold that way.

Most people would only pay 300 if that. And considering the only good thing about the Wii U is the controller. I kind of doubt even 300 will be worth it.

If they expect high sales it's gotta be under $300 period.

$500 sounds way too steep for the Wii U. $300 sounds about right, but I'm guessing they will launch it at $350 and lower it not too long after launch. Either way, I can wait for this.

$300 sounds more than reasonable, really. Why Amazon is rushing to put it up without official announcements of a release date and price point is beyond me. I would imagine it would be out well before Christmas. IF it came out that soon before the holiday, people will be at eachother's throats trying to get it. I wouldn't think it would come any later than October-November.

$500 for the Wii U. Hahahahahahaha. Definitely wont happen not after the flop of 3DS. Also that date seems a little off because the companys usually drop the date before black friday for increased sales. I think they will drop it end of october or beginning of November so that they may even get a second wave of shipments just before Christmas. By the way definitely getting the Wii U.

I doubt it will cost $500, even Nintendo knows better then to charge that much. I am guessing $250-$350 but of course this is just my own estimates. It would be nice to be able to see what kind of power the system has because that might help with price estimations (then again, the Wii was powered mostly by sticks and twigs and it launched at $250. Granted lots of people are more skeptical because of how bad the Wii was so lots of people will be holding back on he Wii U and Nintendo will probably take keep that in mind).

So will we see some epic mall fights over the system ?  People shopping for Xmas at the last minute and getting frustrated over trying to get a Wii U.

Releasing on December 21st would be commercial suicide. If it were true, Nintendo obviously has no interest in business of the countless parents wanting to buy one for their kids.

$500.00 for a system not as powerful as the current Gen and geared towards kids and the casual gamer.. Good luck with that..

 @Dagamemonkey totally agree, being sketchy about the price of a unit is a really bad business move too, as if it is expensive at least give people the chance to start saving in these times of austerity and high unemployment.

Something tells me it's going to be very pricey. Nintendo's being very quiet about it, and I don't think that's a good sign. Heck, I'm not looking at buying ANY of the new three systems at launch because they'll all three probably be really expensive.

$500 is ridiculous, and there's no way that Nintendo would ever go for that, since they actually want to sell systems. I'm going with $300 to $350, especially since it doesn't have a built in HDD and it's not boasting any really revolutionary technology. I think I'll have to pre order if that's the date, and I'll order from amazon so I can get release date shipping, that way I won't have to worry about getting bonked in the head at my local gamestop.

It will never be $500 quid. Based on the assumed specs, it must be quite cheap to produce the console and controller (between 150 and 250 quid) so they can sell at $300 and make a profit. I don't think even Sony will price the PS4 at that.

Needs to come out a few weeks sooner than that, too close to Christmas

There are some rumors that seem reasonable to believe. This is not one of them. Nintendo in the past has always aimed for lower prices. They certainly wouldn't have developed the Wii U if it cost too much. And come on, a tablet controller + the console itself with current gen graphics = $500? Not only is this something un-Nintendo like, this is just really hard to believe in general. If Nintendo didn't care about cost, my Gamecube and SP would be playing 3D images. 

Hopefully Wii U will support backward compatibility with Wii games. I really don't have room for too many consoles. I already got 3 of them right now.

$500 lol give me a break. There's NO WAY that it costs that much, especially if it only has a Radeon HD 4850 GPU in it. Nintendo loves to sell their consoles cheap, which given that they apparently scaled back the power of the system to make it more affordable not too long ago I can't see this thing being more than $350, especially in this economic climate. It would be suicide

Although it is pure speculation, that is just laughable.

Nintendo already hinted that the price point is 'reasonable' and they are going for the price that 'has value' for the consumer.  

Also late November is most likely the launch date strategically just like they did for the Wii Launch starting before Black Friday through Christmas holidays.
