American McGee gauging interest for Alice 3

Developer asks fans if they would support a Kickstarter campaign for a third entry in series if rights can be obtained from EA.
American McGee wants to know if gamers would be interested in Alice 3. Writing on Facebook, the game designer asked fans if they would support a Kickstarter campaign for the game, provided the rights could be acquired from Electronic Arts.
McGee said fans should "make some noise" if they want the game to become a reality.
"I'm trying to gauge interest in case I happen to discuss this with EA during [the Game Developers Conference] in two weeks," McGee said. "The more interest there is, the more seriously they'll take the conversation."
Last month, McGee bemoaned EA's marketing of Alice: Madness Returns. On Reddit, he claimed EA intentionally created trailers for the game that would "trick" gamers into thinking the game was a hardcore horror title.
If McGee can obtain the Alice rights from EA for a Kickstarter campaign, it won't be his first stab at the crowdfunding service. The developer and his studio, Spicy Horse Games, successfully funded free-to-play game Akaneiro: Demon Hunters through the platform.

just out of interest..... does anyone know Yu Suzuki's number for a Shenmue 3 kickstarter so i can start it off? seriously though...... how could we go about a petition or something? even if it was developed just for dreamcast. i know this has nothing to do with the current thread....
8 Like Hell yes!!!!!! They can have my full $60 pre-order right now if they get this going and can make it as good if not better than Madness Returns. Loved that game. Great level design and fantastic score. Loved it. Always hoped they'd make a sequel. Hopefully I get my wish!
If they can vary up the mechanics (something they didn't do in Madness Returns), I'm definitely in.

You would have to get the rights away from EA though as they have been ruining a lot of game series'.
Alice: Madness Returns wasn't an amazing game. Actually it put me to sleep at one point, just because it never really moved along. The original PC game was amazing though. It just felt so creative. Amazing music and atmosphere. Madness Returns had good atmosphere, but very much lacked anhy good music. I would definately give Alice 3 a shot. But its got to have some creativity in it. A good story. Get Trent Reznor or somebody that knows music.
5 Like It seems like some of the guys here can't read. American is thinking about acquiring rights from EA, so that he could develop the game freely, without any big publishers' supervision. He's been there, done that. His own studio, Spicy Horse (you might wanna check out their website with their games), developed Alice 2 but had to obey EA whatever they were telling them to do. American stated he was never happy with some of the publisher's decisions. He actually had anticipated the reactions and the critique Alice 2 would be met with.
So, why don't you give him some slack? It's a damn tough business to be in sometimes. Big publishers are only thinking about dough as they're driven by what marketing dept. tells them. Sadly, devs are just tools for them.

@qreyjhansi "Testing the waters"... You know, that's the conclusion I came to after the Kickstarter Akaneiro campaign had finished. Even though I backed it, I don't think the game itself will benefit a lot from the extra funding or rather how its expansion will make it a better game than it's been for some time now (regardless of it's obvious shortcomings).
I don't think actually he was checking the market with Akaneiro for the next Alice. It could be a different game that he had in mind. But the huge demand for Alice's merchandize and what not, did take him by surprise.
Sorry Mr. "American" McGee, but since you left your country behind and thought that you would have great success in China, then you fail and need to ask for kickstarter projects for pretty much all your work now, I fail to see why we need to support you and the Chinese game industry after you ditched us and felt all elite to venture abroad.

@Tripwolf Did you not read the part where he hopes to take the rights from EA so we can have a better game than what you called the "mediocre" one we got as a result of EA fumbling???
doubt this will happen,would be great but EA holds all the cards and McGee hasn't really made anything half as good since Alice2
@dangermouse2k This. The artwork in Alice 2 was incredible but the game itself was... meh. Make a different type of game with the same incredible art direction and I'll likely buy it. Alice in Wonderland is definitely public domain so he could even stick to that story if he wants.
1 Like If he's asking for me to "make noise" on Facebook that's not going to happen as I don't have an account but if you're reading this McGee, which you probably are not but I'm going to say it anyways....as long as you cut all ties with EA I would buy the 3rd Alice game in a heartbeat. Just publish it on Steam yourself. :)
alice madness returns for pc was released as a buggy mess and never patched. shoddy devs. no thanks.
@ghostXzero it runs pretty well on my machine but without the physx since i dont have ndvidia BUT i agree completely because it did not before i put in the new 6970 card (which costs like more than a ps3 or xbox and also me an arm and a leg if you'll pardon my french but seeing as there's little to do in the deadzone of europe atm worth every penny)
on a sidenote, i was just gonna say if it's the same style and atmosphere or even a bit more pg18 rated (as in more gore and real silent hill type wonderland horror, not alice stripping naked i mean i say just saying horror in wonderland the original idea behind it) then i'm all up for it

I personally thought the combat of madness returns is where the fall was.. the game was absolutly brilliant, and combat was fun for the first 2-3 hours, after that, i ONLY wanted to SEE what was next, not fight it, or puzzle...
the story and aesthetics is its only great points
4 Like I loved the two Alice games, especially Madness Returns. The ending left me wanting more. If a third one can be done well and is as engaging as the previous two games, then please, a third one would be welcome.
would love to see a third entry in the series! but not if it's published by EA i'm afraid, cause i wont spend a dime on that corrupted company..
You'll have my full support on this one. A little bit more scary like fisrt one, and some Tim Burton style visuals, it'll be great.
ABSOLUTELY... I would definitely welcome the game. Loved the first two, I thought they were inspired, creepy, and great fun. COUNT ME IN.
As long as it had the confidence of design present in acts 1 - 4, tightened the pacing a little and wasn't as afraid to encourage the player to embrace the character and narrative (the riddles) as opposed to relying on combat or shoed in minigame sections (Radula rooms)
Would love to see a continuance of Alice's story, just as long as it avoids feature creep. :)
Would be happy to support on Kickstarter in that case.
