Analysts expect May sales rebound

i have all three systems and i have to say i play my 360 the most. The rest of my family play the wii and my ps3 collected dust after i beat resistance. PS3 needs good games, that is the bottom line.

"Xymos " I hate to burst your bubble buddy, but I don't think you know what the hell your talking about by saying the ps3 will have all these killer games come next year. For starter, sony may have 1 maybe 2 good exclusives, otherwise all multiplatform. 360 has a bunch of RPG's and a lot of action titles coming out and only on 360. Plus there are a boat load more 360's sold right now opposed to ps3's so when a multiplatform game comes out, more 360 titles will be sold. Plus Xbox live tends to pull people to 360 when they have the choice to buy either the 360 or ps3 version. It does for me.

Call me crazy or whatever, but I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of very unhappy Wii owners in a year or so. I just cant see Nintendo surviving with games like Mario party and Pokemon. The video game era has moved to an older audience and I owned the wii but I sold it. The games are crap to me(except Zelda) and I would rather be playing the Halo's, GTA's and MGS. I actually agree for once with Sony when they stated that the Wii is an impulse buy. I bought it out of impulse and my arms get tired after 10 minutes of playing. I like to sit back on my couch and hold my controller and thats it. None of this aerobic crap. Personally I think only the 360 has a chance this gen..

Already seeing low sales in Europe, the first 3 or 4 weeks it sold well but has slowed down dramatically since then. I saw 1 person buying one and he looked so embarrased, like he'd been caught buying a truckload of hardcore donkey scan mags or something.

but i think that the ps3 being overshipped is catching up to them, pretty soon we will see low "sales" in europe as well. But i have faith in sony rebounding sometime next year, by then xbox 360 will have already gained the market share that they said they would

and no, the ps2 doesnt make up for the ps3s losses completely. It just keeps them from having shareholders riot, lol.

what?? recouping a loss - they aren't even close, the last quarter shows sony computer enterainment lost far more than m$. Moreover the ps2 is selling like crap compared to ps3 - i don't know where you are getting your info from, the only market the ps3 is doing somewhat well is in europe which is where i suspect you are from given your views are s narrowminded

the ps3 will sell once sony shifts all the focus to it, the ps2 is the biggest problem. At the same time the ps2 is selling and recouping alot of the loss from the ps3 development.

Man I predict the PS3 is going to pwnt the other systems come next year. But in the meantime I hope it enjoys last place. The only reasons I got a Xbox 360 over the PS3 was a) the price was a bit in favor of the 360 b) there were quite a few games out for the 360 vs barely any for the PS3, that will be very different by next year. Further more on the hand held area I have only ever seen one (1) DS in real life, and that was owned by my little neighbour, I know a totally of 7 people with a PSP so I don't quite understand how the DS is owning the PSP. Probably just a bunch of kids getting mario for their birthday, where the PSP is in my opinion geared towards more mature people. And lets face it the children market is the easiest thing to penetrate, especially since all the things kids are into these days (pokemon, yugiho and all that other garbage on TV) is in game form on the DS and not the PSP, thats their foothold in my opinion

So, Wii is selling. That's more of an own goal of Sony than anything else. Microsoft will be up there this time, they did their homework with the 360 and the pricing is right (and will become even righter!). Nintendo should see this as a great freebie opportunity and simply POLLUTE the market with good games for the Wii (and DS for that matter). I see little as is, in fact they are just about to kill the DS by now. And online gaming is the key, whoever gets the best online service and games won. You read it here first. :)

Where do you get these number from kevy619? You have no idea what you are saying. Do you think that these analysts just make up numbers? Really....why even bother writing a number.....how about we just wait and see......!

Basically the Wii is selling so much because of its low price, obviously the price tag of $600 for a Ps3 is going to drive people away, i say if sony wants to save the Ps3 they better start putting out more exclusives that are being lost to the 360. Seriously, they should put out God of War 3 or whatever to at least force some people to buy a Ps3, the Ps2 was last gen, they should bring in a hefty price cut to reduce it to around $400, that would certainly catch my attention, and besides I would much rather see sony stay in the race instead of nintendo. Nintendo can also only make good games using Mario, do you know how old that gets when the only good game you can find is mario going on another rehashed adventure or racing around on the DS. Sure the games might be fun but i want to play something else, i am even considering "Touch the Dead" just because it is NOT MARIO!

meh, the wii can be found in any store now in plenty of supply. Sales will be more like wii - 300, 000 xbox 360 250,000 ps3 70,000. Reasons for my figures? Well the wii has lost a bit of momentum, but is still popular. The xbox 360 will see a boost from the release of the elite version, Forza 2, Halo 3 Beta (to an extent), and Guitar Hero 2. The ps3 did nothing to improve sales last month, why should we expect in increase in sales? I went into wal-mart today and they didnt have any ps3 systems on display anymore, instead the filled that space with the 30 or so God of War 2 copies they still had in the promotional display. That combined with the fact that I havent ever met someone who has bought a ps3, i dont see alot of ps3 systems moving this summer.

EpilepsyKid x-box 360 in japan was already a fad before it was released, and x-box live was a joke over there. if i won an x-box 360, i would trade it in for another wii system with pokemon to go with it. x-box live, a fad indeed! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't think "fad" is the word you are looking for. it means extremely popular.

OK now, wii is the best console now, it might have not so good graphics and some games aren't that good, but it has the best gameplay, just see the top-notch games out there... just great, and Nintendo has the true escence of gaming, and PS3 copyed nintendo's gameplay in some parts, it might have great realeses but i prefer a 360 and a wii maybe later i'll try out a PS3.

To kiddoblivion I never said the 360 or the Wii for that matter had "amazing exclusives" I simply said they had exclusives, how amazing they are or how well they do at retail is entirely up to the consumer. Second of all MGS4 and FF13 are not 07 titles so they dont count because I was only speaking of this year. Thirdly I didn't say anything about the 360 or the Wii's exclusives making you ignore PS3's exclusives, I said they will compete, meaning it wont be a land slide victory for anybody since they all have something attractive to offer. Whether you ignore one game over the other is purely your decision. But, since you went the fanboy route with your response to me I'll give you and other fanboys like you a list your gonna love. For every PS3 game coming out i'll list it's competitor. Ninja Gaiden Sigma/June Competitor: Been there done that dont wanna spend 600 to do it again Lair/Summer Competitor: Blue Dragon and Bioshock, Lair is gonna have a hard time taking the spotlight from Bioshock alone, two games makes it unfair Heavenly Sword/Fall possibly Sept Competitor: Mass Effect and Halo, Ha Good luck with that Uncharted/ Winter Competitor:Splinter cell conviction, conviction got equally good previews plus it's a well known top selling franchise against some new guy on a $600 system Rachet and Clank/winter Competitor:Mario Galaxy, in fact this isn't even a competition. Well, I will go ahead and post my predictions for May sales. I think that Guitar Hero II and Forza 2 helped the Xbox 360 some in May. I can't believe the Wii is still doing so well, too. I thought FF13 was being designed on SquareEnix's crystal emotion engine or something, rather than on PS3 architecture, so that it could easily be multi platform? Anyone else heard about this?

Yeah.. May sales are up because in that month I purchased a PS3 and two games for my birthday. I always make May sales go up.

@dmish82, TTDog, and anybody else with a brain Precisely! Buying a PS3 right now (or even worse, on release day) was / is just too much of a blind investment. It's a whole lotta money to shell out when there is currently so little going for it. What if you don't particularly enjoy Rally games or First-person Shooters? Right now there is nothing exclusive to the PS3 for you. It's a simple decision then: buy a cheaper console featuring more games. Who cares which one - they are all cheaper and they all have more games. Everything the fanboys say is based on the prediction that their hallowed list of Supergames will: 1) Be good enough to offset the extortionate cost of the PS3 2) Not end up going multi-platform like most games do 3) Actually get released before this generation is over Ok, so point #3 is a bit of a joke, but honestly: How long have we known about MSG4, Killzone and FF13 for? And so far, how much have we seen or been told about either of them? Do they still even exist? They can't just keep on telling all those out-of-pocket Sony lovers who raced out and paid full whack for a PS3 that: "One day you'll have all the best games. One day..."

UmonDaisuke Don't forget to add Super Paper Mario into the quality titles for hardcore gamers. The Wii is also built for the casual gamer, and in that respect, there are many many games that will definitely sell, and are of high quality to that category. Wii Play, Wii Sports, Mario Party 8, Elebits, Rayman. Pretty much anything that has a mini-game and it somewhat coherent is good for them.

Wii has MANY quality titles out I can't think of one other title that's considered of high quality other than Zelda.. add the VC games, and we're done. Let's put things into persepctive here, the remote is selling the console now, not the content. Add the cheaper price, and you've got a successful recipe. The PS3 has the higher price, and the same drought of content but without a unique controller. The only console that has the content to justify a purchase (regardless of price) is the 360. The PS3, and to a slightly lesser extent the Wii, still have a long way to go.

TTDog, lowenergycycle, Couldn't have said it better myself. I have nothing against the PS3 and will probably eventually buy one but as you've both said, there are no quality titles for it at the moment. I think the Wii-haters are upset that the Wii has MANY quality titles out and it's been out for the same amount of time as the PS3. What good are the HD graphics right now if you don't have any games to play?

yes the hd dvd can do 1080p is the software supports it. thourgh vga or componet.

Merodach, instead of claiming that Microsoft has these amazing exclusives, please list them. I own a 360 and the only game I'm even mildly excited about is Mass Effect. I'll buy Halo 3 because "as an xbox owner you're supposed to" even though I'm not a fan of FPSs or the franchise. What 360 games are actually going to make me ignore PS3 games like MGS4, FF13 or Uncharted?

I hope those hardware sales predictions are correct!

Hey Ihardwick692, both the Wii and espeacially the 360 have a lot more than just 2 or 3 exclusive games coming out this year. In fact both systems have already had about 3 exclusives released since January while the PS3 besides having motorstorm has had virtually none. I dont know if the PS3's new games are gonna bring more hardware sales along with them and neither do you, what I do know is that for every exclusive Sony has Microsoft and Nintendo have something to compete with it. Sony wont go quietly into the night this gen and neither will the others so hold your judgment until after the holidays

Most of those sales will come from Pokemon. Sad but true.

I'll have to agree with cjnwo4life. I think their hardware sales prediction may be a tad high. Take off about 20K-25K and it should be pretty accurate for all 3 consoles. 360 should definitely break 200,000, but I'd be surprised to see the PS3 get back over 100K this month. I don't see that happening until Aug or Sep. After Sept, we should start to see some huge surges of console sales. This holiday season should be incredible.

keep putting all these figures up--and whenever the ps3 games start flurishing the store shelves--you will see the sales start rising above and beyond--and it will be sony that saves the videogame world--not the 360 and sure as hek not the wii-- .. .. ..everyone talking about the wii this and the wii that--i got a wii--and i am about to take w wii wii on it--the games arent even gamecube standard--and the controller is kind of neat but it gets old after while--if they would have made various games with the use of this controller and then a standard controller to play other games then it would be fun and more of a better investment--right now i feel like i have wasted 250 bucks--plus 50 for the zelda game--which i could have played on the gamecube--and i also bought super paper mario which is fun for a while but get old flipping 2-d to 3-d all the time-- .. .. .. .not to mention--nintendo should already showing profits--before the wii's release nintendo execs told the msrp be 99 bucks--they said no--lets put 250 bucks on it and rake in the dough--so their profits should be astronomical-- .. ... .and these companies shouldnt be depending on one or two games to keep it on top--like microsoft is expecting halo 3 to make the 360 sale big--sony has a bunch of games coming out--that they want to push the sales and show the power of the ps3--nt just 2 or 3 games like the 360--and what about the wii--more metroid mario zelda to last through wii lifespan--yippee

living here in australia there is very little going on with games in the last 3 months.I have 360,ps3 show me the games!!!!!!!Why is there no software for many weeks then a flood in sept,nov,dec WTF as for the ps3 a flood is more like a trickle most games pushed back aonly games worth getting were at launch!!!!!And don't get me started on backward compatability because I support IE buy games and don;t copy them I have many ps2 that STILL don't work yet .I had the same problem with the xbox / xbox 360 change But for what was done to the PAL PS3 It just sucks!!!!!!!!!!
