Anarchy Reigns pushed to July

Sega delays Platinum Games' brawler into back half of 2012, implies extra development time will be used to increase number of characters possible in battle.

In what should come as no surprise given the game's title, Anarchy Reigns is having a hard time conforming to a schedule. Sega today announced another delay for Anarchy Reigns, saying the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 action game is now set for a July release.

Originally announced as a fall 2011 title and then pushed to January 2012, Anarchy Reigns is now set to arrive July 3 in North America, July 5 in Australia, and July 6 in Europe. In a statement accompanying news of the delay, Sega West senior vice president of marketing Gary Knight suggested the postponement is due to new features being added.

"Anarchy Reigns brings a new take to the brawler genre, and we've decided to take a little more time to deliver the full knockout punch," Knight teased. "I can't reveal much now, but it's something to do with scale. Let's just say traditional one-on-one or two-versus-two fighters will be a thing of the past."

Developed by Platinum Games, Anarchy Reigns is a third-person brawler set in a postapocalyptic war zone filled with tsunamis, black holes, and all sorts of hazards. The game will feature online multiplayer using existing characters from the studio's previous title MadWorld, as well as original characters.

Well I do like Platinum games but for me to buy this it would need the following. A robust single player story mode. Local as well as online co-op. Bayonetta as an unlock-able character at the very least. And a promise to make Bayonetta 2

goodemon 9 pts

wonder if Metal Gear Rising revengeance is the reason this game was put on the backburner???

pakhair 16 pts

Sure it has nothing to do with MGR: Revengence :P

vegasartst79 5 pts

The only reason it is delayed is because, Platinum games has taken over development on Metal Gear Revengence. So they have many games there working on at one time.

Well I kind of suspected it might get delayed again. That is fine though, Im glad they will be improving the game further. This also gives me time to do something about my gaming backlog that has been building up for awhile no:(

Wandrian 5 pts

I'm glad it's being delayed. This way we'll all have time for it and the numerous appeling titles coming out at the beginning of the year. Hells yeah.

I guess doing that is better than releasing an Ultimate Anarchy Reigns later.

My only flaw with this game will be restricted to playing their characters and not being able to customize our own. It looks fairly enjoyable but I hope it won't be repetitive.

They made Bayonetta which was phenominal. Can't wait for this game.

I would much prefere sequel for MadWorld then that BS... C'mon Sega! What happened to Cellshading Black&White graphics, that was one of the most original games/ designs Ive played, hell, even my 14 years sister finished it with a bannana on her face (which my parent ware not happy about when they saw whats going on on the screen ;) LOL)

This game needs local multiplayer for it to have any kind of shelf life as this is too niche of a game for the servers to really be populated for any reasonable amount of time. At least that's what my crystal ball is telling me :P

I'm getting more interested...

Morphine_OD: They didn't say anything about adding new characters; they said they were adding *players.* As in, making it into a more than 2-on-2 fighter. That's a whole different story. Also, if you don't think developers occasionally add major elements late in the dev cycle, you should go look up when, for example, Rare added multi-player to the original Goldeneye.

Simply means it's gunna be better

Zero's fighting style and the way he looks reminds me so much of Xion from bloody roar... (gamecube version)

If we can have Madworld characters can we pleeeeaaaase have Sam from Vanquish? I feel like the speed and the suit would actually lend itself well to this game. Either way, Platinum is amazing, I already know Rising and this will be amazing.

Twiztid-Maddox 5 pts

This time I can actually rest assured about this game coming out... All the other times they just said a month, but now we finally know July 3rd action games will finally go back to the golden days where you could beat stuff up with your friends... I'm so excited!

i getting this game when its released, looks pretty cool.

@CamoBullo I'm just hoping Sam Gideon makes an appearence - I don't normally buy character/map DLC, but if that is how he shows up in this game... I may have to suck it up and fork over the dough.

CamoBullo 16 pts

Man, that's disappointing. I can wait, though - it'd be rather enjoyable if they decided to put Raiden in the game, seeing as Platinum Games is developing Metal Gear Rising. Hell, I still need to buy Bayonetta and Vanquish.

Micro_mas 5 pts

O man, I was waiting for this next month IoI well, they need more time!!

megakick 74 pts

WTF? really? WTF! Bayonetta unlockable character!

Morphine_OD 52 pts

Yeah and it's not like there were some problems aRISING during the development cycle of the game, no. It's just a few extra characters suuuuure. Tell me more about EXTRA characters that are being added half-a-year before the game goes gold, 3 months before Certification process begins and barely a month away from internal QA stage.

Richardthe3rd 66 pts

Bayonetta making a cameo appearance would be awesome, hint hint. ;)

Demonjoe93 11 pts

However long it takes for you guys to make this game as awesome as it can be.

HollowNinja 5 pts

Platinum, I'm still waiting for you guys to make PC versions of your games. Your games are great even on consoles, imagine what they would be like on the PC!

Crazyguy105 23 pts

As long as the delay is worth it, I'll be happy.

x400Degreez 5 pts

The multiplayer in this game is gonna be awsum can't wait for this.

calvinsora 13 pts

I'll wait as long as it takes for a Platinum game. Delays are usually not negative things at all.
