@Pokemon18986 I agree with your comment. Not really siding with Sony or Microsoft. I do however think that Sony is going to be really hurt by this one for a long time. In another comment, I drew a parallel between this and the Toyota fiasco.
Hacker group denies responsibility for Sony's online service going offline, says it's just a convenient scapegoat for electronics giant.
After going down Wednesday night, Sony's PlayStation Network is still down as of Friday afternoon. And ever since a Thursday morning notice that it may be a day or two before service is restored, Sony has been silent on the matter.
One group that isn't staying quiet is Anonymous. In protest of Sony's litigious treatment of PlayStation 3 hackers, the decentralized group temporarily brought down the PSN earlier this month with distributed denial of service attacks. However, today a press release posted on the loose-knit organization's news site insists it has nothing to do with Sony's current woes.
In a release titled, "For Once We Didn't Do It," the group acknowledges members of Anonymous could be acting independently, but insists its organizational structure "was not related to this incident and does not take responsibility for whatever has happened." It goes on to suggest that Sony is merely using its recent struggles with the group "to distract users from the fact that the outage is actually an internal problem with the company's servers."
The note specifically points to an entry posted to and then pulled from the official European PlayStation Blog that implied the PSN could be down due to "targeted behavior by an outside party." The Anonymous attack from earlier this month not only impacted the PSN, but also brought down PlayStation.com and the official PlayStation blog for stretches of time.
whats the difference between breaking into someone?s home and breaking into a network affecting millions of users, a felony charge and time in prison. these dudes should pay the same price.
@EliteGamer09 you proved both my points as they were both jokes at your expense lol which i hate to break it too you since the norton joke(i.e. the joke being you'd use it haha) was above you head a little lets jump back to grade school when someone makes fun of you they aren't trying to "get anywhere with you" lol
@BigXow -As a matter of fact I don't. Piracy and hacking just happen to be some of my pet peeves. Does it truly make me a hater for always trying to do things the right way? Hardly. Call me a boyscout. Call me a goodie two shoes. It doesn't bother me. At least my conscience is clear!
@BigXow Steal a dictionary dumbass and learn to spell... simply because you're a thief doesn't mean everyone else.
you know them denying it made them pretty much proove that they did it. heck there are people actualy admiting to doing it......sigh i remember when 4 chan used to troll people and the anonymous was just a fake group to freak fox news out, now some idiots actualy made them a legit group ... -_- god why are people such idiots in this day and age
@AceCometh i bet all your games were bought and you dont have a single song, game or movie illegal... stop hatting...
Hackers are legends in their own lifetimes, they need a bigger challenge one that they will never obtain.. getting a life!
@Microsteve Yeah, at least we don't have to pay $50 just to -Play online just for a little bit -Have access to DLC for a game we may or may not have -RRoD
"Yeah, that's right, PAY NO ATTENTION TO ME HIDING BEHIND THE CURTAIN AS I SLOWLY VIOLATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!" -Anonymous
So here's a hacker group who has been known to make malicious attacks and threaten the PlayStation Network. But we should all believe them because they said they didn't do it? Yeah, I believe you. You're so credible...
i know I'm really mad at PSN to but hey at least their service is free unlike some obnoxious company with the mysterious name of xbox so personally i wouldn't take to much of my anger out on sony.
@Microsteve last i checked, the ps1 wasnt a fluke Now the first (and second) X-Box is a different story...
It's very hard to believe them considering the time frame of their threat and because the problem happens to be with the PSN itself...which they threatened not too long ago. It's possible it's not them, it's also possible that it's some associates of theirs that did it themselves. If that's the case, then Anonymous just didn't do it directly, they might have just planned it out, but told someone else to do it from a different location. That's a basic hacking strategy.
anyone else think dicegamer might really be a troll from the discworld novels? sounds like Detritus honestly read one n see (well minus the cooling hat anyway)
Anybody could've done it. After all, anyone without a name will be labeled Anonymous and the blame falls on these guys. Bad choice of name for a group ???
@Briantb_2008 If you read into it, there have been dozens of arrests of the so called "anonymous" team all over the UK in the last two weeks. When you break a federal law it's really hard to hide. Especially when you're using a computer. @OldKye Norton sucks, if you want to keep your computer clean, do it yourself. I haven't had any antivirus or spyware programs for years and to this day I have had no problems I couldn't fix myself. Also your overbearing presumptuous retort and immature demeanor gets you nowhere with me.
"the group acknowledges members of Anonymous could be acting independently".... Translation: We did do it, but we are all 13 years old and are scared of what will happen WHEN we get caught. Heres hoping they kick you lot out your parent's basement at the very least.
"...but cheating through hacking and bringing down the entire PSN is two completely different things..." musicaz70 how do you know the game-cheating hacking hasnt gone far enough hmm? how do you know that Sony's ppl didnt just resort to restructuring the network in order to perform a ambitious massive cleansing so they could finally connect a punch right at the ovaries of the game-cheating-hackers? ... not sure why I am thinking they may be girls....not sure why Im imagining some hot & nerdy goth looking chick...should stop typing now.
typical, never miss the "they did it to themselves" from the conspiracy-ppl. PS gto3440 if you sound like a commercial for microsoft u got fanboyism. like nobody here knows who Bill Gates is.
this is what people get for wanting something for free...yes...i am a xbox fan primarily...but i own both...and my sony piece if s**t 3 has been dead for close to a year now...which makes no sense since i rarely used it...i have never had any problems at all with my 360...i played versions of multi console games on both on a high end tv...with high end HDMI cables and a good surround sound...microsofts system is better...looks better...sounds better...runs quieter...more confortable controller...and even when it comes down to exclusives...xbox still looks better...period...deal with it...dont like what i have to say...bite me...i really dont care
I don't trust either group. All I know is that this whole situation is stupid, and I'm tired of seeing "news that isn't really news" about it.
@EliteGamer09 actually if you read the article it claims they posted that then took it down as if to retract the statement that a outside party is responsible not that i don't agree that there is a high chance whoever did it also goes by anonymous but it belittles your point when you say he didn't read it and you didn't look that close either.
@HotHeatMcQueen yup and they finally caught the Easter bunny this year for breaking into peoples houses and vandalizing them with eggs. Have you seen their rap sheet? you act like this is one guy in Kentucky who is doing this all it's countless people from all over the world(not that the guy in Kentucky isn't a part of it too) even if you grab a guy or two it does little and you will still get mad at Norton every day cause it can't clean off any of the spy-ware on your computer.
@hotheatmcqueen I very much doubt it they been around for years and theres a reason there name is Anonymous. Nobody knows whos in it and its World Wide
@willhelliwell so why exactly is this an "external intrusion". If Sony was responsible for this than the intrusion wouldn't be external. Why don't you read a little closer.......lemmie guess, your'e a hacker too.....
@Microsteve so you must be a xfail fanboy then, right? cause you showing all the signs in that one sentence post
"For once we didn't do it" Well you're still getting arrested and going to court for what you have done. Hacking = illegal
I find it funny that anon says Sony is merely using its recent struggles with the group to distract the users from its internal problems. It was Anon that said they were going to attack Sony. Why wouldn't people jump to that conclusion?
@every1 Beggar can't be chooser? PSN is a free service, so if Sony decided to shut it down for good, whats everyone is complaining about? But its only another dupe Sony promises that is getting the norm now day. when the ps3 released, there was 5 usb ports, card reader slots, otherOS ect.... next they'll take out Blu ray movie capacity, why would Sony fanboys whinge?
