Company reportedly exploring designs for watch-like device that would feature some smartphone functions.
Apple's next device could be an iWatch. Sources have told The Wall Street Journal that the Cupertino technology giant is currently testing designs for a watch-like device that would be capable of performing certain smartphone functions.
According to the report, Apple has been in talks with manufacturing partner Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (Foxconn) about the device. The discussions were reportedly part of a broader exploration into product categories outside of the smartphone and tablet markets.
The sources added that Apple's exploration of this new market is nothing new. The report states Apple has hired new employees with backgrounds in "sensors and related technologies" in the past few years.
How does this have anything to do with gaming? Microsoft had the "Smart" watch decades ago and found out one thing...people dont like to wear watches anymore unless they are for fashion. Again...though...wtf does this have to do with gaming? Stop just grabbing other people's headlines and reposting here.
...Why are they reporting this? Talking about iPads and iPhones is one thing, but I doubt a watch is going to play or be relevant to video games whatsoever. Give me a break...
"See this... it is the latest iWatch"
"Wow! what does it do?"
"some of the stuff that this phone in my pocket does, only now with the added convenience of being able to look at the lock screen without having to take it out of my pocket."
"Fancy! I got to get me one of those."
Seriously Apple......SERIOUSLY?? Are you THAT fuckin' desperate to gain the public's attention again (and raise your shares back up)? The 'iWatch'......wow. *smh*
Ok ME myself I have an iPhone 5 & I love my phone. I hate MACS with a passion. But this iWatch crap just makes me fuckin cringe at the thought of it (-__-) like WTF???
I wish Apple would stop putting out different sized hardware for two freaking seconds and start working with software companies to further develop AR software.
With every phone coming with a camera and internet access, now's the best time to start working on Augmented Reality. And it would sure as hell have more uses than the umpteenth iteration of iPhone, in a different size.
Good Idea I bet it would be like the wrist communicators that the power rangers used to wear but no teleportation function
who in the hell uses watches theses days like really grandpa and hipsters thats all i can think of :) GO GO GADGET!
Yeah!! A watch you can talk into, just like Michael Knight, sign me up. If only I could get hold of a KITT car to go with it
I don't think that we are ready for smartphone-watches yet. The technology has been there for quite a while now but I think the psychological barrier is yet to be broken.
I mean, I'm not happy about it, but if I'd see someone walking around playing with his iWatch like some sort of British agent, I'd think "What a snobby iF*ggot..
Same goes for Windows and Google.
It's funny that Apple was a computer company, but their biggest sellers are phones, tablets and media players.
Even with the bazillions of Apple products out in peoples hands, they still can't convince many to buy Macs.
I don't agree with people bothering Apple, just because "Weak Video Card" just pick another, but this IWatch sounds like money grabing bullcrap!
This would go well with my new iSore, my iEye Captain and my iPod mini-medium-large with new iFacepalm recognition system.
i think the iWatch should come with and iStupid device.
Ok this is just stupid and I say this not only as an Apple hater but as someone who would not buy an android or windows watch like this either. Yes the idea is cool I will give it that. All of your music and your watch, send a tweet, maybe watch a video. When you think about it though it is pointless because your phone can do all that. Just imagine trying to play angry birds, watching a movie, reading a book, or typing on a watch. Your arm is going to get tired staying in that position and no way someone is going to hold their arm in the position you do to check your watch for 30 minutes to watch a TV show. If this iwatch sells well that is just sad for the human race. It probably will sell well though because sending posting a status update from your watch is cool and you have to be cool. Also taking our your phone, waking it up, hitting the facebook app, and typing is just so much work. Now you can by pass the step of pulling your phone out by just lifting up your arm and posting on facebook with your watch. I hope that is worth a $500 purchase.
@toddx77 It's a Smart Watch, not a Smartphone, you can't play angry birds, or watch movies on it, it's gonna be just like the Ipod Nano, with some cell phone stuff on it.
The only stupid thing they did to me, they should have used the same model from Ipod Nano 6, since people were already using it as a Watch. Ipod Nano 7 should have been a smart watch, not another ipod, and after make a smart watch.
Eddie, a little tip, just google the name of most anything apple is trying to make seem like they came up with and you'll find that it most likely is another stolen idea. Apple very rarely actually invents something, they do however, have an excellent marketing team that'll make the masses believe that they are the creators.
Sony has this watch out right now. It's called a Smart Watch. My friend just bought one for his wife for Valentines Day.
@nini200 Microsoft came up with those 10 years ago. @nini200
They flopped because, nobody uses watches except runners and the landscape a watch can really take up is very limited.
i wonder what the functions will be of the watch. If it has internet connection you will be able to cheat at tests. This will suck for everybody because when you start a test you not only need turn off your phone, put away your bag and now take of your watch :(
only because some people will have this gadget.
These smart watches are a joke!! Why would anyone want a watch that you have to keep recharging? I'm happy with my watch that needs a new battery every 2-3 years...
Apple products are so over priced, I would like to see their business begin to suffer to bring them back down to reality
Playing a game on your watch would be a real pain, would have to be for monitoring distance or playing music
oh ffs, more status rights for the over pretentious narcissistic fashion whores.
watch your backs Rolex and casio apple will be claiming they invented the watch in no time and throwing out lawsuits claiming everyone who preceded them ripped them off
Seeing as no Apple device can be divorced from iTunes, how are they going to cram the store into the plastic this time?
Aaaaaand I'm just waiting for them to start suing watchmakers for making something similar that goes on the wrist and has time displayed on it!
Well, I'll wait for next year when they start doing iBelt's and iRings... I wonder if it will ever be enough...
@DiamondDM13 iCondoms perhaps? lol
@DiamondDM13 Waiting for iGlasses, phone with glasses!
@DiamondDM13 once Google releases there glasses, apple will not hesitate and the I-Glasses will be on shelves within a year.
@DiamondDM13 Nope. After that there will make iPiercings, iBalls and before you know it, iTumors.
