The hand to hand combat in the first Assasins Creed was not up to par. Running around and jumping off roof tops can get old fast if the fighting is not deep.
Ubisoft producer Sebastien Puel says sequel to 2007 action adventure boasts team size three times that of best-selling predecessor; 75 percent of original devs returned.
Ubisoft likely had high hopes for its Montreal studio's 2007 release Assassin's Creed, but even the publisher's forecasts were way off the mark when it came to the action adventure's actual sales performance. After a series of dramatic upward earnings revisions, Ubisoft revealed last May that Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 helped push the publisher to a 36 percent annual revenue hike, nearly tripling profits in the process.
Unsurprisingly, then, Ubisoft is putting its full weight behind Assassins' Creed 2. Speaking to UK-based gaming site NowGamer, producer Sebastien Puel said that more than 450 people are at work on Assassin's Creed 2, with 75 percent of the original team having returned to work on the sequel. Putting that figure into context, Puel went on to note that the Assassin's Creed 2 team "is about three times the size of the team of the first game."
Puel also emphasized the importance of carrying over such a significant portion of the original team. "Making [Assassin's Creed] from A to Z took around four years," he said. "It's a very good thing we are keeping most of the core members who envisioned the first Assassin's Creed. They know the project very well." According to NowGamer, Puel also said that many of the "thousands of ideas" planned for the first game are now being implemented into its sequel.
Officially unveiled in April, Assassin's Creed 2 is set in Renaissance-era Venice as well as the Tuscan countryside, following new protagonist Ezio. More information on the action adventure game is expected to arrive as part of the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, taking place in Los Angeles June 1-4.
@ darkdaekj, I agree with you. I really hated replaying the intros again as well, but i hope that you can still jave the option of replaying levels, but you can still have a free roam option, so you keep all your abilities and stuff. Cant wait for this game!!
The one thing i DEMAND is that you could skip the damn level intros. This killed my experience in AC1 when i went flag-hunting because it took you 4 minutes to enter the before-the-last level (as to have all equipment and abilities) before you could actually do anything. I know Al-Mualim's and Altair's speech about Robert de Sable by heart now because you cannot skip these damn intros.
I loved AC1 simply because it provided a new type of freedom in movement and combat ( I love being able to single-handedly wipe out a dozen guards using nothing but my hidden blade, its hard and so satisfying). Assassin's Creed opened the door to how we view "platformers" and I'm certain AC2 will keep the same level of quality, and knowing the ubisoft Montreal team, they should be able to find ways to push the envelope further.
I believe Assassin's Creed has more than that meets the eye. As I've observed most of the comments posted are grim opinions about the sequel. As a matter of fact, I really thought this game is a masterpiece, since it was the first 4th generation game to step foot on the gaming world. I met many quasi gamers in my life, bragging about their limitless collection of games, and their awesome rigs, if you ask me, they are not gamers at all. Just showing their meddling resources. The verity is that they can't play and mean while they use trainers and cheats to assist them even in the east difficulty. After my deep and thorough analysis, most the unpleasant comments made to a magnum opus are failures. It is better to keep the redundant comments to ourselves. True gamer must let a side the cons and admire the common achievements endeavored by the developers. We must be able to show the widespread elation of gaming. We must understand what makes us gamer, not because we are awesome at accomplishing missions at in grand rates and records nor we hold the trophy of MVP in a tournament. We exist because they are awe-inspiring games to encourage us to play and build pavements for the upcoming games. Gamers always hope optimistic about the forthcoming games and their performance. Gaming is not only a recreation, it is a sport. It is better to keep the redundant comments to ourselves. Thanks you Best of Luck Furnish
....well Assassin's Creed was one of those games that i played and just leave on the shelf to rot until there is nothing else to play =_= innovative yes.....replay value...not so much... i hope the second offers more variety for a change AND trophies! ^_^ then i would be hidden bladin every1 i see!!
Yes repetitive but a piece of art with these beautiful locations.Every game become repetitive at some points.
the game was bloody amazing! how could u say it was boring......repetitive yes but the idea and large landscape almost like infamous just draws u in and makes u forget about the repetitiveness...or so i think..
"thousands" of ideas huh? This should be pretty good. I hope some of those ideas descrease the repetitiveness of the first one.

i get the gun idea but its an sword fighting game "kinda" i just think if there was a gun it be like the one they show in the first asc (beginning movie)
I don't know why people r putting this game down (the constant thumbs down). Anyway, I would be psyched if we could use a gun in AC2. U gotta be pullin' my leg B-NiZZle_21. The double hidden blades r....KILLER!
ha i know what weapon your talking about "Outlaw-BHA" its obviously a gun. i know about the teaser trailer they let people see and im pretty sure the e3 preview is gonna have something to kind of do with that trailer. im sure they made a dif trailer to show at e3 then what they showed to those very lucky little selection of people they showed the sneak peak to.
the hidden blades in both arms are gonna rock!! can't wait to do awesome assassination executions with 2 hidden blades!!
@AJ-2K7 no that isnt true, they used the crossbow as a teaser, but the throwing knives that u used in the game were much more effective than any crossbow (xcept vanhelsings) expect to see another show off weapon that wotn get any game time in the E3 trailer. (yes i do have a very strong knowledge of what it is already, just dont ask where i got the info)
@infamoushavoc i don't know cos i haven't done it myself but supposedly if you find all flags and kill all templars then you can get the crossbow. i don't know whether its true though.
Let's hope that a tripled amount of People working on this Project also increases the Quality, Features and Playtime instead of hindering them. I liked the first AC and from what I read so far am getting the second one too, but only if it doesn't turn out to be another "arcade-ish" Game (there are already more than enough of them out there) or badly done Console Port. At the moment I'm quite confident that it will turn out to be a worthy sequel.
I pass on this game no more then a rent. if it anything like the first one then forget it missing stuff (the crossbow in the begin intro) and way repeative. ubisoft should of made advanced warfighter 3 but in all fairness im not going to judge it yet will see were it goes. the first one just didn't sit well with me.

it wont be repetitive like AC1 cuz instead of the 6 or something u had u now have 16 mission types and double hidden blades just make it bear sik
@Shanks_D_Chop You have to listen to what they actually said. 75% of the original devs are returning. NOT 75% of the team are original devs. If the first team was around 150 people, then about 110-120 of them are returning. On topic: Never played the first one, but I'm looking forward to this one.
This doesn't add up. 75% of 450 is around 337... so the team for the original AC must have been at least that. So if this team was three times the size of the original AC team... that's at least 990.
I hope one of these 450 ppl remember to put subtitles in the game... the first one was hard to hear whem the ppl talk during cutscenes.
"Too many cooks spoil the broth." Ever heard that saying? While these guys aren't making soup (unless you're talking about code soup) I sure hope they have a good management model (one that they stick to) to keep all of those 450 people in sync with the major goals of the project. AC was a great game, but with clear room for improvement, so I'm looking forward to AC2, and am hoping that it will be *awesome*.
Sure the first one was repetitive and had a few minor bugs but it was an amazing game! You know they are going to fix all those minor complaints that prevented this game from getting perfect reviews- This game will be awesome!!!!
The first game was the reason I got a Xbox 360 because a friend of mine had it for 360 and I played it one night and the next day I went out and bought the game and the xbox.
i liked the cities in the first one the only thing i didn't care for was the area between the cities making it more exciting.....the first one was still an amazing game
I cant wait for this. I loved the first one. The citites were sweet. Cant wait to see actual gameplay for this one.
