Assassin's Creed III ships 12M, Far Cry 3 at 4.5M

Ubisoft action games reach new sell-in milestones; Just Dance 4 ships 8 million; company's Online segment jumps 143 percent.
As part of its latest earnings report today, Ubisoft announced new shipment figures for the latest entries in its tentpole franchises. Assassin's Creed III has now shipped 12 million units; Far Cry 3 sits at 4.5 million, while Just Dance 4 has reached 8 million units shipped.
For the three-month period ended December 31, Ubisoft revenue rose 23 percent to €802 million ($1.07 billion). The French publisher called out its Online business as a major contributor to its bottom line, rising 143 percent to €55.2 million ($74.1 million). This was led by digital distribution sales and revenue derived from downloadable content.
Ubisoft's Casual segment saw diminished revenue during the quarter, but this was largely offset by the strength of the company's core and Online segments highlighted above. In addition, Ubisoft said back catalog sales continued to rise, due in part to "sharp growth" in online and digital back catalog sales, which offset dipping retail back catalog sales.
According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the publisher's market share has exceeded 11 percent for the first time ever in the United States and Europe.
Looking ahead to 2013 and 2014, Guillemot said it expects further growth in sales and operating income due in part to focusing on core gamers, free-to-play games, and digital distribution.

AC3 is a quality game. The setting IMO is the best out of all the AC's. It's a shame they're not going to continue Connors story because their is still room for it.

There was nothing special about AC3, the setting was only okay. The freeplay sucked and I absolutely hated the cities and available areas!

I generally don't like sandbox/open-world games, but Far Cry 3 deserved the top spot in my opinion. Fantastic game!

Figures the worst AC game is by far the best selling one. People like garbage if it has all the right BS marketing surrounding it.
@Stonecutters908 I couldn't agree more. That's all it was. And NO, AC was not a quality game. Boring running around the forest aimlessly jumping trees and killing animals is fun and added to the story? A total step back in the franchise and now those blood suckers at Ubi seem to think its a good idea to throw dlc at the worst of the AC's. Those decision makers should all be fired, seriously.
@Stonecutters908 AC3 is a quality game. Marketing is not the reason it sold so well... People will continue to come back to AC because each game offers a rich deep campaign mode. Not many games offer this.

AC3 only did this good sales-wise because of the high buzz that it's past predecessors had already established!
3 Like Assassin's Creed did so well because it's the most expensive advertising for any Ubisoft game. Far Cry 3 is GOTY and yes it's better than Dishonoured.

you can howver compare dishonored with AC3 and honestly dishonored is superior in every way...
AC reached 12 million because of the fame and advertisement especially e3 trailers that made people rush to preorder it the result is not worth each penny but far cry should be in AC position as the made a real game

It's simple, unlike AC, Far Cry didn't have that buzz and hype behind it that was built up due to it's past predecessors the way AC did! If AC 2, Brotherhood and Revelations all sucked then most likely it's sales numbers would've reflected that of Far Cry 3 if not lower!
i loved the three games the r all good still not yet done with DMC and FAR CRY 3 but it is all good to me

I think the cover of FC3 may have put some people off buying it :/ Too bad its a great game.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how such a sloppy game sold that much.
As a fan of series, even Revelations, ACIII was a huge disappointment. It's only redeeming factors were the side-content and voice acting, everything else felt-half baked. The combat system was okay as well, it's just too bad most of the main missions focused on eavesdropping and chase missions.
I do hope the Brotherhood/Revelations team takes on the next installment of the franchise, because the ACII team has clearly lost it. No fucking way was this game in development for three years.
Now that Assassin's Creed III has shiped 12 Millions copys I wonder how many people will buy the DLC: Tyranny of King Washington? I will just wait for the AC3 GOTY.
