after reading this article, i was interested in learning what each company (Sony, MS, and Nintendo) did for the greater good. Each company DOES contribute to making this a better world besides providing great entertainment. i'm a really big playstation fan and i don't currently own an Xbox 360 but i really respect what microsoft has done here, makes me feel better knowing that a company as huge as Microsoft gives back to charities and other noble causes and Bill Gates himself has probably donated more to charities then anyone here could in a lifetime, Cheers MS!

i dont like the game and i dont like the beatles i think they are overrated. celebs support and promote it then everyone else follows along sad really so if they come out with a beatles edition of the xbox i dont care cuz i dont like um. be yourselves guys

@mynamesdenvrmax: Microsoft isn't exactly greedy, but they just know business very well. They remain second in console sales (Its not like console sales has anything to do with how good a system is), and im glad that they are using at least a small amount of their earnings towards charity. Xbox 360's are pretty fun. Still, the 120 GB hard drive that costs 150$ is absolutely ridiculous.

@semisanity And I'm not saying Microsoft aren't greedy, but can anybody name a corportation that is just around for the hell of it, and are not focussed on profits?

@semisanity I agree the battery packs are a ripoff, but HD dvd players were hardly a necessity on the 360. The wireless adapter(that isn't needed since you can just plug into a modem) and xbox live are well worth the money if you only have wireless internet and play games online. You probably own a ps3 based on your response, but let me ask you, have you ever played xbox live? I do at least two or three times a week for about an hour, and I honestly can't remember getting lag since the second Call of duty map pack came out and hadn't been updated yet. I doubt any ps3 owner that plays online can even get close to matching that. Nobody wants a broken game, and the way I see it, 60 bucks a month gives you two times as many games as you had before, and without lag, glitches, or hackers(although I can't say ps3 has hackers because I really don't know).

It's a great way to get money for a good cause and spread the word of yourself so that you can get money for yourself. More companies should do this to show the world that videogames aren't just making kids fat, they are benefiting and bringing joy and entertainment to the world.

This is really good. What Bob Dylan is doing with donating all of the worldwide proceeds from his next holiday themed album is really impressive though and should rank in millions of dollars.

@genbeef Sony does charity stuff too I don't know why you would think they only care about profits when that's kinda what all 3 companies care about otherwise these systems would be free, don't you think? That was a bit unfair and also they have that feature where you can put your ps3 into wait mode or whatever it's called (I don't own one) and Harvard can use your ps3's processor to calculate amazing numbers to help fight cancer etc. So all three are doing their part to contribute their massive dollars to society.

@mynamesdenvrmax Microsoft can still be greedy. If they didn't give to charites like everyone else then they'd be seen as scum. Also, if the fundings for "All You Need Is Love" are all going toward charity then why isn't also available on PS3 and Wii? That would raise more money.

@Alex_09 People say MS is greedy because they charge extra for wifi, hd dvds (not anymore), battery packs, live subscriptions, etc.

@Miroku_of_Nite1 A Pink Floyd Rock Band would be the next logical step. I would love to see that announced next, I would be one of the first in line to pre-order it.

I love the chance to rip into Activision and "Guitar Hero". If they put as much time into dlc as they do pushing out a different product every six months, they might be decent. Instead, they get buried by Harmonix and Rock Band. And every time Gamespot shows that picture of that guy that's the head of Activision, I think his name is Bob Smalldick, I seriously want to do bad things, very bad things.

You know, I wonder if something like this could get Pink Floyd to do a Rock Band game. The band is somewhat of a fan of charity, although getting Roger Waters on board will be the hard part. Also we will probably need a keyboard.

17,300 is a p poor number. At the very least MS should have bought it at $50,000. But hey it's MS saving. Like in Happy Gilmore, "Oh wait, this is good. We may get the house back cheaper than we thought." Or they probably didn't even buy it at all.

That's cool. I hope developers do that more often. It's nice to have great DLC, it's insanely good when it helps people and foundations. For all my 360's problems I became a Microsoft hater but I've to say that I can't imagine this happening in Sony's network. Kudos for Microsoft and the Xcrap (It's a tender nick for my 360). The games industry makes so much money that this move should became a trend.

@dpsolo @cowmaster2k3 People just don't get the concept of charity auction. This is not about how much money you can make for the charity, and worse still, it's not about buying the xbox for playing with it, this is about making noise about charity. When you auction something for charity it creates "gosip", people are reminded the importance of charity and why it needs to be promoted. Sure, the $17k will not stop hunger, but this story got charity into your head, that is the value of the $17k.

I wish I had ordered the system, I was just saying to my friends that I would love a beatles themed 360 or PS3, plus the money would be going to a good cause.
