No where in sight at E3 2010. Don't get your hopes up. Maybe one day it'll be in the spotlight. Hopefully...

What we heard: Less than a month before the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, leaked in-game footage of what appeared to be Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 popped up on popular video-sharing Web site YouTube. The footage appeared to presage Ubisoft's blowout for the game, which was first announced as part of UbiDays in May 2008. However, such was not the case, as the game was conspicuously absent from Ubisoft's E3 presence.
It now appears as if Beyond Good & Evil 2 isn't just unready for primetime--it may not be happening at all. According to Gamersyde staff writer Colin Solal Cardo, Ubisoft confirmed to him that Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been placed on indefinite hold.
"I got confirmation at Cologne's Gamescom that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is on hold for now. No idea if it's def or temporary but it sucks," reads a post Cardo made to micro-blogging site Twitter.
Indeed, assuming the confirmation Cardo received is accurate, this wouldn't be the first time Ubisoft has distanced itself from its May 2008 announcement of Beyond Good & Evil 2. Speaking to IndustryGamers in July, Ubisoft North America executive director Laurent Detoc addressed the aforementioned leaked in-game footage, casting a substantial shade of doubt as to whether the game will see release.
"Whether or not [Beyond Good & Evil 2] comes out remains to be seen anyway, but we didn't want to abandon that IP because it has a cachet and authenticity about it," Detoc said. He later continued, "Well, I didn't say there's definitely going to be another game. I said something had leaked, which means we've been working on some Beyond Good & Evil stuff, but whether there's going to be another game or not, that's something for the future."
The official story: Ubisoft had not returned requests for comment as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that Ubisoft is on the fence about reviving Beyond Good & Evil 2. Whether or not development has officially been suspended remains to be seen, however.
I would like to believe amazon.com that it's being released 12/31/2010 but somehow I am skeptical without an official announcement from Ubisoft. Maybe @E3? One can only hope...
beyond good and evil 2is an absolute must come out, ive been waiting forever for it, i would buy it instantly no questions asked. BG&E is my all time favorite game, please, if you makers are reading, many many people would appreciate it comming out
Ubisoft If you're reading this you're probably dead. release those games (Splinter cell conviction,AC2 for PC,BG&E 2,PoP FS,) or there will be massive boycott on these games!!
Man this blows! Its reasons like this that gaming is becoming less and less of a hobby for me. First we lose Oddworld Inhabitants and now we may lose BG&E.
that is so not cool, the anticipation of Beyond Good and Evil 2 was the reason i bought a 360. i'm gonna be peeved if it never gets released :(
I never understood why BG&E didn't do better than it did. It was a fantastic game that never got a fair chance. I think we'll see a sequel eventually, it may just take far too long for our liking.
Like I said; I SERIOUSLY doubt ubisoft has the b@lls to cancel this game: Remember, Ancel has threatened to leave once before... ... And take the rights to their mascot with him.
@Cory929, I really hope that you are right because the first game was one of the best I've ever played.
Don't panic people it is confirmed bogus, maybe Gamespot should look for better sources next time (seriously, some blogger's twitter feed ?) because another french site (http://www.gamekult.com/articles/A0000079137/) has contacted Ubisoft, which has confirmed the game is still on track
Pointing out that this is old news has got me 6 thumbs down. I presume that means just because people haven't followed this story closely, like I have, I am wrong and they are right?
The development better not stop, or the ending of the first game will be a 'what the hell' ending. I always wondered what happened to that pig guy.
The first one was great, although in a sequal i'd like some improvements on he fighting and difficulty... still im disappointed in this news.
I played the original, and I can't see why any sane company would not make a sequel. That would just be stupid - throwing away money. The original was great - it was innovative, but not unreachable or unrecognizable. I believe it carved it's own piece of the game pie out, and it was good. It had combat, collection, exploration and puzzles - like a rebooted Zelda. I cannot see why Ubisoft would even consider not making the sequel - just moronic.
Ubisoft at least try to innovate a bit more than let's say companies such as EA or Activision. I'd say it would be pretty foolish on Ubisoft's behalf to not take this risk. Guess we'll have to wait it out.
Sadly, Battlesword, games that try to innovate and be different end up not selling because the safe and familiar repeats of existing genres are already well established and people can just ease right into them. The idea of having a game that doesn't fit into a pre-existing genre pidgeonhole puts people off. What would you classify BG&E 1 as? Open world action stealth photo sim racing platformer? People are afraid to try new things, and it's bloody annoying listening to them whine about the lack of innovation in the games industry and then going back to play Gears of War or Call of Duty.
Yes, that's right, Ubi. Cancel all the innovative and original games to make way for more Madden and Tom Clancy clones.
this is f@#%ing bulls@#t...... it seems like like cancel all the good games and release the s@#t one. im still expecting them to cancel alan wake and if they do they will have another serial killer to put in the books!!!!
@FallenAngel: Well of course i've played the game! I have it for PC. But i've never even seen a commercial for the game, or any sort of ad. I'm one of those people who will check out any game I see as soon as possible. But how am i supposed to know to read a review if i don't know about it?
I only just saw the footage of this the other day on youtube, and since I've been waiting for ages for it to happen I was ecstatic to know the next one was happening. And now my hopes have been dashed by Ubisoft, why don't they know a good idea when they see one? I liked assassin's creed, but it got pretty old pretty fast, and the second one looks like it could amend that. But apart from that Ubisoft haven't really made anything that would make me rush out and buy yet. I hope they see sense soon and put BG&E 2 back into production.
i never played this game but it seems to me from all the good reviews and almost every post saying its good that i should get number 1 and 2 if it comes out...
beyond good & evil was one of the best games i ever played..... i didnt fancy it, but my girlfriend got it me for my birthday way back on PS2. As soon as i started playing... it sucked me in. I played it for hours on end... day after day until i clocked it. Characters were unique... story was amazing. A real mix of action / RPG. Some say it rivals modern day Zelda's... and i can see why... it had everything.... including a sense of humour. And the camera thing was great.... gotta collect em all! never mind im sure there will be another tom clancy number round the corner 'Tom Clancy's Gun fighter / jet fighter / warzone / rainbow 6 blackpool / rainbow 6 coney island' blah blah blah or maybe an assassins creed set in the 1800's, where you get to work in a wrought iron factory in old england, killing your peers and setting free the overworked and underpaid masses? none of which i would buy...... cos im bored to death of the same crap. (and yes i am being sarcastic! deservedly) the sad thruth is... as long as the majority of gamers keep buying the 'obvious' games.... the more developers are gonna make em... cos thats where the cash is. you know what my most anticipated PS3 game is? GT5? nah.....God of War? is it f**k! the next FIFA? nope.... Heavy Rain.... yep.. and it'll sell about 10 copies but i bet anything... it'll be amazing. (new splinter cell looks nice though!)
I am devastated to hear this news. I was so happy when I saw that a sequel was in the works. Man, thats a bummer. I hope that it's just suspended, not expelled. :-(
if they dont make that game they can sk my ck.. btw to you ppl.. i know someone who has worked for a Ubisoft compagnie.. & met guillomot guy.. dont be fooled... they laid off all of the staff of one of their developers just so they could lower the pay wage and not have to honor contracts and barred everyone to work in the industry afterware. Ubi is like EA now. Gives no sh-t 'bout its ppl and artists who bust their asses working on the games.
Hated the original, glad the sequal will not be taking up shelf space that could be used for good games.
The original game stunk. It's one of the few games in my collection that I wish I hadn't bought, along with Unlimited Saga and Blasto.
I just remembered the song in the bar "Ne tryabva da sloushate tyahnata propaganda koyato prespiva naroda! " Man recognizing your language in a foreign (french) game always honors me
Meh, The original is a game that everyone online praises but few have actually played and even fewer will actually buy.
