PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Grasshopper action game the only new releases to crack the top 10, New Super Mario Bros. takes top spot as sales slipped across the board.
Media Create has reported the Japanese sales figures for the week of April 12-18, and the numbers are not impressive. To put the week in perspective, last month Koei topped the charts with the PlayStation 3 version of Fist of the North Star Warriors, which sold more than 385,000 copies in its debut week. That's more than double the cumulative sales for the top 10 best sellers of April 12-18.
There was little turnover in titles for the week, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii defaulting to the top spot on the charts with 32,108 copies sold. The only new releases--Grasshopper's PS3 and Xbox 360 ports of the original No More Heroes--landed in seventh and eighth place, with sales of 15,763 and 15,153, respectively.
While Xbox 360 releases are usually far outsold by their PS3 counterparts in Japan, the sales for No More Heroes: Paradise were likely neck-and-neck due to different ratings for each version. The PS3 edition received a D (17 and older) from the Computer Entertainment Ratings Organization (the Japanese equivalent of the ESRB), while the gorier Xbox 360 one received a Z, the most restrictive rating the group issues. Under CERO guidelines, games rated Z are not supposed to be sold to anyone under 18, and retailers are asked to verify the ages of those who want to purchase them.
Of the other eight titles in the top 10, all of them saw week-over-week sales declines. Konami's Pro Baseball Spirits 2010 for the PSP and PS3 held its ground for the week, taking up the third and fourth positions on the chart, while Nintendo's perennial DS best seller Tomodachi Collection slipped past the sports games to take the silver medal behind New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The PS3 version of Fist of the North Star Warriors sold 18,866 copies to secure fifth place on the charts, with Pokemon Ranger: Hikari no Kiseki, Wii Fit Plus, and Yakuza 4 shifting their order but maintaining spots in the bottom half of the top 10.
Times were tough on the hardware front as well. There was no fluctuation in the finishing order of the platforms, and almost every system's sales were down week-over-week. The only two systems to actually increase sales during the week were the two worst-selling ones on the list. PSP Go sales jumped from 1,826 to 1,915, while the PS2 went from 1,425 systems sold to 1,531.

The PSP Go is a complete fail in Japan. Why? you ask, because the Xbox 360 outsold it. Also, surprised that NMH sold identicaly on the PS3 and 360 concidering how many more PS3s there are out there.
I hope fist of the north star comes to the states! NO ONE STANDS A CHANCE AGAINST KEN, NOT EVEN KRATOS! (if you don't know who he is he's like Bruce Lee in the Roadwarrior Apocalypse and the kung-fu he uses is hitting peoples pressure points to make them explode! Fear KEN!)
I'm just going to post the usual boiler plate disappointment at the lack of release for Hero's Paradise outside of Japan but one way or the other it looks like I'm going the import route. I really hope the 360 version is region free or I'm stuck with the neutered PS3 version.
"The gory Xbox 360 edition of Travis Touchdown's original adventure nearly outsold its tamer PS3 counterpart in Japan.' Which, in non-Promote Xbox Gamespot language means, "The PS 3 version outsold the Xbox version in Japan."
NMH Paradise 31k? How is that even big? Wii version already sold 400k. Xbox 360 and PS3 version both combine won't even manage to sell 100k on their life time.
I'm curious how different No More Heroes Paradise is on the X360 vs the PS3 since it got a more mature rating, it's a shame they've no plans on releasing it here in North America. Siliconera had an article saying that the PS3 version blacked out the blood and that Microsoft said they had nothing against releasing an adults only version of the game in Japan and kept all the violence in. Still, I wonder whether the only difference is violence or if there's more mature themed content left in the Z rated game.
Hmm...Interesting, but for some reason just looking at the top game list made me a bit curious on where these scores are based on only japanese companies or game sales as a whole as they are purchased from Japanese customers. I'm kind of interested in how exported games from other countries are taken in by Japanese gamers.
Picked up the PS3 version on lanch day. The HD graphic touchups are great but it gets very tiresome having to hit R3 every time you need to execute a finishing hit.
Wait, they intetionally made one version of No More Heroes: Paradise more violent than the other? Okay... I guess there's nothing wrong with that.
I own both NHM titles on the Wii and can highly recommend them both as they are both great games. However, its kind of confusing on why they decided to remake both these titles before motion sensing controllers came out for both the 360 and the PS3. While the updated graphics are a very welcome plus, the lack of motion controls really takes away from the experience. Still, if you haven't played it, worth a buy.
no more hero on the ps3 and xbox 360 i bet that looks alsome, i hope they come with an american version on it
Got NMH on Wii - and would be great in proper HD - come on, its a great game, some publisher has got to pick this up for an outside Japan release.
As cool as it might be that NMH is going multiplat...one of the coolest features of the game is its innovative use of Wiimote. That makes the game just a little better then it will be on other consoles. And on other consoles, it has games like GOW3 and Dantes Inferno to go up againist...and Travis is a baby compared to Kratos. I will stick with my PS for GOW and my Wii for NMH.
As of now there are no publishers for the HD version of NMH for outside of Japan so its a no go as of now. For Japan the sales are better, as I heard that NMH on the wii barely sold in Japan.
Who cares about the Japanese and their obsession for Mario and Nintendo! Bring NMH to the West and F* them!
i was hoping that NMH would stay as one of the cool, exclusive Wii games, like Zelda and Metroid (Mario...Ehhh...kinda getting sick of the red guy...)... ah well...
How again is No more Heroes huge on the HD systems. The Wii had a lauch of 11,000. THe HD systems should have had a lauch of about 40,000 since its a hardcore system. / Any analyst in Japan knows that sales of games go downhill after the first week.NO more Heroes bombed on all systems.
wow ps3 sales slide again , wii still at 24 and closed in on ps3 by inches nmh sold ok but fail epically when compared to nsmb
mmmmmmmmmmmmm I would like to play NMH: Paradise, even tough I already beat the game on the wii mmmm is just a desire. WOW NSMB wii is kicking a*s
Rising Star should be smart and release NMH Heroes Paradise in the West. The mere fact that the combined first week sales of NMH on PS3 and 360 outsold Wii's performance of original NMH by three times should tell you that. As for those who don't know, 360 version cannot be imported (of course) whereas PS3 version is devoid of any blood and gore.
NMH Paradise would probably sell double that if it's released stateside. *hint, hint to you, Marvelous*
What does that little box mean by tamer?! The PS3's known for its gut ripping gore games. so I'm pissed. LOL.
