PS3 debut of popular anime/manga franchise reaches pole position.
Anime pirates eating devil fruits while gaining abnormal powers was the flavor of the week of February 27 in Japan. One Piece: Kaizoku Musou topped the recent Media Create sales update chart, with 655,774 units sold.
The PlayStation 3 exclusive published by Namco Bandai and developed by Omega Force places gamers in the shoes of Straw Hat Pirates leader Monkey D. Luffy as he fights his way through recaps of the anime/manga's prominent story arcs. Other features in the brand-new title include alternate story modes featuring different controllable characters and an online co-op multiplayer.
Also making their debuts on the week in Japan were Mario & Sonic at the London Olympic Games 2012 for the 3DS and Great Battle Fullblast for the PSP. The former title sold 43,155 units, while the latter title sold 24,289 units. Great Battle Fullblast is a side-scrolling action game featuring playable characters from the Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and Gundam series.
The recent 3DS installment of Harvest Moon secured third place for the week with 27,378 units sold. Square Enix received a special surprise as Theatrhythm Final Fantasy went up from 15th place on last week's charts to fifth place this week with 21,540 units sold. Tales of the Heroes Twin Brave went down from the top of the heap to the tail end of the top 10 with 12,358 units sold.
On the hardware side, there was a close fight for the top spot, with two systems pulling far ahead of the pack. The 3DS managed to stay atop the heap despite taking a slight dip with 70,744 units sold. Meanwhile, the PS3 saw a huge jump in sales due to the release of the One Piece title and sold 65,116 units for the week. Sony's other systems didn't fare as well, with the PSP and PS Vita selling 15,715 and 10,023 units, respectively.

There hasn't been any announcement on a EU or USA release I hope they release it in EU, the first One Piece PS3 EXCLUSIVE I am excited because i am a major One Piece Fan @SuplexKirby you are right the anime/manga is addictive :D
Fairy Tail doesn't need a game because the anime sucks and some of it characters are a rip-off from some on one piece and I'am not talking about the art style. Even with Gravity Daze the vita still does bad. Japanese just like the same games over and over and if vita had gotten RE and MH vita would had probably sold millions -_- One Piece is huge and this isn't a surprise because the anime/manga is additive.
lime_93 i love you as i feel the same way i dont hate One Piece but come on the show needs to end as its lasting far too long Fairy Tail ftw
Still no Vita games on the list? Wow. Japan must really not like it or it's either the lack of games.
@leeko_link MH4 is coming for 3DS and MH3G might get localised while VITA is getting MHp3(remake). At the rate the VITA is going, even the Wii might beat it.And it's the first time(in many weeks) that the combined hardware sales is more than the 3DS only! :)
Good for One Piece and love the series. Plan on importing it soon seeing it won't come to the states anytime soon.
so ps vita cannot outsell psp and it has no game in the top 10, I hope sony can think in a good strategy in japan which could be jrpg, anime games and monster hunter
One Piece japanese voice actors are all famous people, too bad i have to import this game if they've ever thought of localizing it without jap audio option
I hope they release OnePiece here, I saw the trailer and I'm a fan of anime so, yeah I'm really hoping for a release.
@ JD_Escobar I thought Monster Hunter 4 is gonna be release for the 3DS, not Vita. Haven't heard anything about a Vita Monster Hunter game yet.
As a fan of the one piece series i wonder if this game will come stateside (doubt it though) cause i'd wanna give this game a try. last game i played was unlimited adventure on the Wii.
VITA will pick up in Japan once Monster Hunter is released, and wow One Piece killed the competition
@Oldboy08 "It's Dynasty Warriors."..... I don't wanna play that -.- "But with One Piece characters."..... SIGN ME IN O:
yeyyy one piece 8) finally something that im agree with in in japane tope games :P ps vita ... :\ ... its because of new high tec phones, isnt it?
Can anyone confirm whether this one piece title is half decent? After Bleach: Soul Ignition and DBZ Ultimate Tenkaichi, I'm a little hesitant to get excited about anime games.
