Namco Bandai's deity-gobbling action adventure sells an additional 110,235, again besting Dragon Quest VI and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Square Enix's Dragon Quest series and Nintendo's Mario Bros. franchise could be considered part of the Japanese gaming pantheon. It's somewhat fitting then that Namco Bandai's God Eater has retained its seat atop Media Create's weekly top 10 sales chart, selling 110,235 units between February 8-14. The sci-fi action adventure easily bested Dragon Quest VI's 79,462 units, itself hanging onto a handy margin over New Super Mario Bros. Wii's third-place, 58,690-unit tally.
The week in Japanese gaming presented a handful of low-profile debuts that scored a place in Media Create's chart. Konami's Prince of Tennis: Prince of School Festival - More Sweet Edition for the DS finished fourth with 44,353 units. Konami also published sixth-place finisher Quiz Magic Academy DS: Futatsu no Jikuu Koku, which sold 31,813 units. The top 10 was rounded out by the debut of Nintendo's Zangeki no Reginleiv (21,956 units) and Spike's Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (21,600 units).
The remainder of the software chart will look familiar to anyone who has been keeping tabs on Japanese game sales. Tomodachi Collection for the DS landed in fifth on the week with 37,682 units, while Wii Fit Plus sold an additional 28,720 units, good for seventh place. Square Enix's Star Ocean: The Last Hope finished in eighth, selling 25,873 units.
Without a major new software release, hardware sales maintained status quo for the week. The PSP led system sales with 39,293 units, a figure followed closely by the Wii's 37,501 weekly performance. The PlayStation 3 sold 24,811 units, making itself the meat in the DS sandwich. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PSP Go rounded out the chart, selling an anemic 3,428 units, 1,869 units, and 1,394 units, respectively.

Yeap you're right. We Nintendo fans must stay together in good and bad times. I've been doing good lately and thanks ayumi_miyazaki-san!
I wonder if God Eater is actually any good... I wouldn't be surprised if it's just being bought because it's a close imitation to Monster Hunter. Kind of like how it is with Dante's Inferno trying to be God of War.
By the way, how have you been clintkeys-san! Its great to have you around these parts. We nintendo fans gotta stick together right. I love you very much sweety.
PSP go is making a lot of people angry. That's why I only buy nintendo/microsoft. Sony is bringing us to much drama
Zangeki no Reginleiv looks really good but I don't think it'll come out here since reggie stop bringing hardcore wii titles out here. Nonetheless I think graphically This game is great. I for one can't wait till nintendo release wii relax.
Man...I wish Zangeki no Reginleiv would have sold better...it looks like a great game! I hope they bring it to the U.S.
More Sweet Edition? Damn all collectors/limited editions of games should be called this. I can imagine a convo going: "Hey, which version of the game did you get?" "The More Sweet Edition...."
Hello gamespot fans!! It is I the great ayumi again! I am very pleased with the home consoles sales in japan this week! Good job nintendo and microsoft!!! two of my favorite hardware companies dominating the charts at the same time, impressive!
Everytime I see these charts it always amazes me how different Japanese tastes are compared to ours. We love sports and shooters while Japan loves them some RPG!
I guess this confirms that a game that even remotely resembles monster hunter can be consumed in high volumes in Japan as well.
Like Square-Enix is going bankrupt. They have had a phenominal first quarter this year, and it will only get better with FFXIII and KH:BBS releasing in the US and other territories. I can't wait for FFXIII. I have not hated any Final Fantasy, they are all good. But I rate them on a scale of X to III.
wow kingdom hearts birth by sleep is finally of the charts. It lasted for about a month thats pretty good!! Now hopefully it can come out to NA.
PSP Go is overpriced crap. I had never heard of God Eater before. What kind of game is that? Must be good if it beat out DQ VI. I'm still trying to beat DQ IV. 360's still sell well in Japan. At this time in the original XBox life it was selling about 300-500 units a week. I've gotta check out Sacred 2. Star Ocean IV (PS3) bombed in Japan. 360 version sold over 160K it's first week.
I heard really mixed reviews for FFXIII. It did tremendously well in its initial release. BUT once the hoopla has settled down, what I heard is that the game is more akin to a FMV sequence than a game. Theres plenty of flair but no meat. I stress that I haven't played it myself, but from what my friends tell me and from what I read, I'm gonna assume that its easy. In fact I think FFXIII is at some "bargain bins" in Japan right about now, but that probably because either everyone has it or the store ordered too much stock. I still plan on getting FFXIII
No FFXIII after it made its debut selling 2M copies in the first week? :( SO4 sale is too poor. I guess most people already have it on 360 since it sold over 300k copies (along with almost 100k copies 360) that first week it released. :(
You can't rly call PS2's sales anemic considering it's what now ? Its 10th year ?! .. So Kudos yet again for the beast that is ps2 :)
Who cares about this when theres an ad for $1 off Gain detergent and fabric softeners! Seriously though, fabric softener ads on games sites? Anyways, God Eater looks potentially intersting. I'll have about half a year to think about it though, nice. Why the hell does it take so long to translate games?
