Koei's latest beat-'em-up beats down more than 400,000 units on PS3, 360 as Sony's console tops hardware; God of War III opens to 43,181 sales.
The PlayStation 3 edition of Koei's Fist of the North Star Warriors topped Sega's Yakuza 4 in terms of opening-week performance on Media Create's weekly sales chart, but not by much. With Yakuza 4 selling 383,972 a week prior, the PS3 installment of Koei's latest Dynasty Warriors-inspired beat-'em-up sold 385,295 units during the March 22-28 reporting period.
With the PS3 version of Fist of the North Star Warriors topping the chart, the Xbox 360 edition sold an additional 30,306 units, enough for seventh place. That figure was slightly less than fellow newcomer God of War III, which opened to 43,181 units in Japan. Sony this week said that the game sold 1 million units within its first few days on the market, though it remains unclear whether that figure is a global tally. The final new entrant to crack Media Create's top 10 during the period was Alchemist's Saki Portable for the PSP, which sold 20,165 units.
Otherwise, the chart was populated by a number of familiar faces. Yakuza 4 dropped a slot to second, following up its opening week performance with an additional 83,187 units sold. Pokemon Ranger: Hikari no Kiseki edged out New Super Mario Bros. Wii to take third, selling 51,233 units to the side-scrolling platformer's 51,214 copies. Other chart toppers included Tomodachi Collection, Gundam: Assault Survive, and Wii Fit Plus.
As with Yakuza 4 the week before, the PS3 appears to have gotten a lift out of Fist of the North Star Warriors. Sony's console finished atop the hardware chart with 50,448, which outpaced the PSP's 46,449-unit weekly haul. Nintendo's hardware followed, as the Wii sold 36,849 units and the DS family shifted a combined 45,559 units. The Xbox 360 sold 3,002 units, though that slim figure was enough to put it ahead of the PSP Go and PlayStation 2.

the only time i ever post on the japanese charts threats is to congradulate an x360 tittle making it on the charts so bravo to "Fist of the North Star Warriors" (what ever it is) yes guys its a big deal for an x360 tittle to make it on the japanese charts no matter what the numbers are
@JaxxRaxor Hokuto no Ken is actually quite popular in the Anime World. Not just by a few "enthusiasts " as you call it. The series has been on many top ten wanted list for years because the series aside from the first thirty episodes and the movie, was never brought to the states. It has a pretty hefty cult following though, and very well known. The series is surely not as obscure as you make it out to be. But I will digress the fact that game will probably not sell well here. That I do believe, but saying its only partially known and as obscure as you say it is well false. But even animes that are well known and popular here(I.E Cowboy Bebop) get games that are never released. so that statement about it coming over is probably true!
Let me guess: Fist of the North Star isn't coming to America because there was no lame poorly translated long-running series in the U.S.
I'm watching the Fist of the North Anime now on Hulu. I love this series. This game won't sell as well in the West, as most people are tired of the Dynasty Warrior style games. They were fine on the PS2, but every game since that time has been pretty much the same game with minor tweaks. I'll check out FotNS when it comes out here, but I doubt I'll pay full price for it. That trailer was terrible.
Yeah! Definitely adding Hokuto Musou to my PS3 import collection! Luckily "it only does everything." Well, everything except "red ring" that is! haha!! jk i still use my 360 it's just useless for imports.
The fact 20k units of anything is good for 10th place shows how small this market is...honestly if Sony and Nintendo were not based in Japan no would would care about it.
I kind of want to play this because I loved the anime, and the game has a GodHand vibe to it (I loved GodHand)
@JaxxRaxor Fist of the North Star has already been announced for the West. It was also a fairly good live action movie.
I did't think it will sell that much , since i played Last battle i try to get all the Fist of the Northstar games ,The one for Ps2 that use the Guilty Gear system is the best Fotn game so far , i am wait to play this one, the last import game i bougth ( Demon's Souls ) ended up comming to the US.Does Microsoft planing on making any hardware that works, i got screwed with the xbox, zune, & 360 japanese developers made some good games for the msx systems , Xbox live is like the itunes of the gaming world alot of games that would't got publish is on Live ,i feel like crying when i see my Gears of war games knowing what going to happen if i turn on the 360 i never got to finish them , that ring
@Death775 I seriously doubt that the Fist of the North Starr is going to come out to the west. Yes it's a classic anime but its mostly unknown outside of Japan except for a handful of anime enthusitics and I doubt the game would do well. It does seem that the PS3 has been doing well in Japan, I think its been a while since the Wii was on top. Of course in Japan Sony has the HD gaming market all to itself seeing as how poorly Microsoft is doing with the 360 so this isn't suprising. I think when Nintendo's big games Sin and Punishment 2, Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid other M come out the Wii will be back on top. The hardware sales are very linked to the software as it seems in Japan. This is probably true in other countries to but I know for North America at reports are done weekly. Probably the same in the European Union and Australia.
WOW....Xbox managed to beat an almost dead console and the PSP GO.....the Japanese must really hate the xbox
Little bit suprised the PSP Go didn't do well in Japan either. But tbh, it's a waste of money. Just get the 3000 which does everything the Go does including reading UMDs..
japanese people know how to play piano / japanese people knows how to make strange games... but WTF was that trailer.. really?
I will look at the 3,002 (Xbox360) and the 30,306 of Fist of the North Star (for Xbox360) in a postive way! But really....no Final Fantasy XIII?! thats just insane!!!!
having say that, this game "Hokuto Musou" is for sure targeted for Asia, people who grow up with this 80's anime will get the most out of this game. Western world gamer who dont even know the anime might not enjoy it as much; I for one loved the anime serise and hoping this title make it into Western market.
agree, Halo is not a blockbuster seller in Asia, same goes with Dragon Age and Mass Effect,... they are targeted with Western gamers, and it works for Western market, and thats all it has effect on.
i notice some thumbs down on my last post, but numbers dont lie. Different regions cater to certain kinds of games and who makes them. You cannot expect Halo do as well in Japan as well as it does in the West.
look at those pitiful 360 numbers. LOL!!!! No suprised there. They don't like the redlight special there.
@360Hammer posted What does it say on the back of your 360 as far as where it was manufactured? I doubt it says USA which begs the question, Why do Americans support a so called American company that does not provide American jobs? Not to mention the Red Light Special. You're right and wrong. Firstly - MS and other large corporations do out-source outside their own countries (Sony,Toyota,Ameren, etc..). That is a huge problem, so won't dispute that. However, MS and others also employ several thousands within their perspective country too. Secondly - Hard-ware problems - I won't dispute this issue either, however MS has handled it much better than my experience with Sony's PS 2 "disc error" problem when they wanted to charge me $150 to get it fix. Not too mention the arrogance of putting out a $600 dollar system along with the remarks that were made at the time. Thirdly - MS titles has more of a "Western appeal" than Sony does. For instance in the RPG arena, titles like Dragon Age Oblivion and Mass Effect would most likely do better in the West than your traditional JRPG's. First and third-person shooters have more appeal to the "Western" brand of gaming than the Japanese markets, not to mention Sony doesn't have as many titles in that genre to actually compete. Then you have the citizens of any country that are going to be bias, this especially true in Japan. Just check the list hardly any of those titles are huge here in the west. So "Hotclip"'s statement still holds true.
The anime was very good and now a game .i hope sega do the subs for this game like yakuza 3 .good year for the ps3 hahaha.
The anime was very good and now the video game .and im hoping for a bleach game for the ps3 i hope sega do the subs with this game like yakuza 3.
kinda hoped that GoW III would sell at least a bit better in Japan, but at least it sold almost 50K :) and another week for Sony and PS3 and PSP :D nice numbers :)
atatatatatatata!!!! i know its another dynasty warrior game but mahn i love the anime its so badas*. every fan must have this imported laready like me.. atatatatatat wacha!!! you are already dea.......
ATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATA AAATAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA You are already dea--importing
I have never been to hyped over a anime to video game adaptation but I really like Dynasty Warriors Gundam and Hokuto Musou got me interested in it too
Japanese's taste are so different, look at God of War III, one of the best selling game this month selling only 40k
Also sth that doesn't happen that often .. the Go oustsold the PS2 ! :) Anyways another great time for the PS3 ..
So are most people in Japan waiting for Galaxy 2, Metroid other M, Sin and Punishment 2, Xenoblade, The last story, and Arc Rise Fantasia. PS3 is like making a comeback. DS and PSP software sales are seriously down.
Its Made by Koei, I dont expect anything from this title. I'm already disappointed just by the name of the developer.
@Hotchip What does it say on the back of your 360 as far as where it was manufactured? I doubt it says USA which begs the question, Why do Americans support a so called American company that does not provide American jobs? Not to mention the Red Light Special.
