The amount of exlusives coming out for the PS3 is staggering, while XBOX is getting Halo 3: ODST and Mass Effect 2 and that's it. Plus, with another price drop that's expected by mid-2009, the PS3 will become more affordable to those suffering in this recession.

It doesn't matter whether or not the PS3 is "failing," either way its a superior system to the Wii, which is an overrated toybox plagued with crappy ports, lame minigames, and 2nd rate spin-offs.

It's SEVEN days guys. Not a very large sample and it's only Japan.

I for one am more than happy to see this. Although it would be nicer to see it in america. Out here the market for sony is failing, and that sucks so much for me at least cause i have stuck with sony no matter what. i have a PSP, but have yet to get a PS3. I feel that in about a year though (or at least when GOD3 gets realeased) we will see more and more gamers wanting a PS3, Microsoft and Nintendo gave you a REAL reason for buying their system with games that were only on that system (at least most at first. i hate how publishers make a game exclusive to one system and then re-realease for sony). Sony has yet to do this, but i believe in them and will stand by them.

It's nice to see the PS3 faring better. I still don't plan to own one due to price and lack of bc. But, I don't want to see Sony fail, either. I'm a Wii and DS man this gen. But I still love my PS2. I still play some old PS1 games on it as well. While PS3 isn't on my agenda, I'd like to see Sony still in the game for a while.

Dang, Sony kicked the crap out of everybody over there this time. They deserve it. They have a good console.

@joke_man I didn't necessarily say they were dumb. I was just using that person's argument about Americans supposedly being dumb. Still, I would normally totally agree with you about Nintendo taking advantage of tapping into the casual gaming audience. But the difference is that's not what's really happening. This whole thing's a farse. What I mean is I doubt you'll see these same "casual gamers" even somewhat regularly playing the Wii down the road. I think they just see the Wii as the "hot item," that they "had" to buy--similar to Tickle Me Elmo, etc., it's just that this fad is lasting longer. In other words, once those people get bored with Wii Fit and Wii Sports, don't expect them to continue buying games like MadWorld or The Conduit. And the severe lack of quality games also hurts. Look at Gamespot alone--it has a whopping ONE game that has received an editor's choice award (not including World of Goo since it's WiiWare--and even so, it'd be two total). And games that are a year older or more are still in the top ten most popular (on this site at least), such as Mario Kart or Wii Fit. That's a bad sign. Call me crazy, but I expect to see a fairly big dip next holiday season from Nintendo if they stay on this current path.

@ 10679 Im not sure what youre saying???? my post refers to price drops that have already taken place..... PS3 has dropped £130 GBP since its release and 360 has dropped £110 GBP.... i didnt even consider the talk about new price drops that has been flying around.... I too am a console collector - my oldest is my Master System but my most prized is my Atari Jaguar in near mint box *drool* :D :D :D ***BTW - that comment about not living through a console generation was actually aimed at dessnutts and not you - sorry.... just realised that i hadnt pointed that out!*** @ LeoGoBezerk The Bluray thing has been a difficult pill to swallow for Sony..... the PS2 got quite far having a DVD player in built and Sony expected the PS3 to do the same and it just hasnt..... the fact that the PS3 has a bluray was a major factor in that format winning but it hasnt taken off in the same way that DVD did and hasnt been a major selling factor for the PS3.... ironically, i think the PS3 would probably have done better without it cos it would have hit the market earlier and been cheaper....... in the future it might turn around but its certainly not been the key sales feature Sony had hoped for

@ deesnutts25 I think that there is no reason to count consoles for its power. There is only one main factor - amount of good games. I don't care about technologies when it comes to the fun of game overall. Yes, technologies is cool stuff, but not the main. So 1 ps3 is not a 2 wii. I rather can say that 1 wii is 2 ps3 because of amount of games and interesting mechanics in this games. The same comes to x360 - now this console have a big variety of games, jrpg's and even ffxiii. There is no reason in ps3 at all. Maybe a little as in bluray player but not for this price.

@ dentedhalo alot of people were stating that there was going to be a price cut soon (i.e this year) and just gave them a recent where SCEA said that there were no immediate price cut for ps3. i actually own consoles starting from snes.

@ 10679 I'll add to that as well...... given that Sony had sales of over 100 million units of the PS2 compared to 20 million units of the Xbox (rough figures), the PS3 should surley have come to the market, swallowed the 360 deficated all over Nintendo.............. I dont remember that happening!!! As for price drops.... uve (deesnutts) clearly not lived through a console generation yet cos thats the norm in almost all cases (the Wii being the best exception of course) - the 360 has been out for over 3 years now so its hardly shocking that its prices have dropped..... lets not forget that Sony touted prices as high as £600 prior to the release of thier console and theyve dropped the price on their console more than the 360 (360 original price Pro £280 now £170 - drop of £110 -- PS3 original 60GB £430 now £299(80GB equivelent) - drop £130)

@10679 Yes lets through the Wii in here shall we.... Wii = $250 and half the capabilities that the PS3 has. PS3 = $400-$500. Notice the price difference. If the 360 was still at their original starting price, people would have opted for the PS3, but M$ dropped the price to get more consumers, even going as far to drop the price as low as the Wii. Most true gamers don't mention the Wii, what planet are you from?? The only 2 systems anyone is even concerned about are the PS3 and the 360. Wii = GC 2.0, same graphics, different controller, online game play that is it. As far as the 360 being ahead of the PS3, hmmm its really not that far ahead and PS3 did it with super high prices that have stayed primarily the same for the last 2 years, where the 360 has to try and keep on adding features, new console colors, drop their price, ect to stay in what some refer to as a console war, which its just consumer buying.

I looks like the X360 is back to square one, even on a month that has two fresh AAA Jps games: RE5, and SF4. Not to mention other releases that should help it maintain higher steadier sales like recent titles such as Halo Wars, Star Ocean 4, Ninja Blade, just to name a few. The fact that FF13 will be exclusive for the PS3 in Jp, the X360's future is not looking too bright in the east. What else could help in Jp?

in NZ 360 is more popular because you get 2 and a half 360 for the price of one ps3.

xbox sells more in america, ps3 sells more in Asia, alot in japan, Europe sells more xbox but only about 400,000 more, not sure about austrillia

Good news for Sony. At least the PS3 is selling well in Japan. Maybe by the end of 2009, it will be selling just as well or better than the X360 here in the US too.

PS3 is catching on. Next stop the U.S.! I know why its doing better in Japan though. Sony is a Japanese company, right? So of course the Japanese people are going to get the system thats made in Japan. Here in the US however, xbox is more popular because its cheaper.

Not really a big surprise this is similar to what we've been seeing out of Japan for a long time now. We have to remember that in Japan, the DS has outsold the PSP for the last three or four years. Thus, much more people have DS' and the sales will drop off, from the past, and perhaps PSP's will rise, from those who already have DS'. You'll see likewise happen with the software. And I think even 360 fans can agree that Sony will outsell them in Japan. However, in the bigger markets of Europe and North America, Microsoft will outsell Sony. We've been seeing this for quite a while. We've also been seeing this with the software sales of the two, etc. There will be games that go multi-platform that are close (Street Fighter 4), but then there are games where Microsoft wins by a landslide (Grand Theft Auto 4, Madden, etc)

lol no desrespect but this news aint no surprise honestly i have had the xbox 360 it was good but broken down i had a wii for 6 months and i hardly touch and to be honest the ps3 is the one im looking forward the most u can love any console but honestly only playing games on 720p in a ps3 already looks much better than the xbox now imagine when 1080p games would be lashing out, next step sony has to reduce the price to £200 then i can get one and i bet most of the ppl in europe will lolol wii prices gone down now everyone can get a wii but who's getting it? no one

360 isn't selling well in japan, in other news, the air has been found to contain trace of oxygen! Its well known that the PS3 has been outselling the 360 in japan, the 360 only overtook it for a while when a square game was released i believe, the 360 games are still more western (big people with big musles and guns with chainsaws) whereas japs prefer different types of games and chars (peole with big swords and spikey hair as the obvious example). THe PS3 currently caters for that a lot better. 360 is still beating it in euro (i believe) and in the US, but they are both still being smashed by the wii (and in some cases even the ds!) Oh and to the comments below about "Awesome RROD capabilities," when it coems to the 360, you ever actually do any research into it, the people that seem to get them seem to get multiple, whereas people like me never have the issue,ever think it might be environmental? as in , don't stick it under your tv in an enclosed space with no ventalation!
