Big in Japan Nov. 16-22: DSi XL

Why play borderlands, call of duty and saboteur... when you can play Tamodachi collection and Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics.... /\ Why 360 doesn't sell well in Japan, they have very different gaming tastes....

@hotshot331 the xbox 360 has slightly better graphics than the ps3 and its a Little faster thats why the game dev use the xbox. but in the overall of the games for both consoles it the same speed and the same graphics. i have both consoles and i can tell that in some games the graphics is better on the xbox, and i like the ps3 controllers its so light. but in the overall i find both consoles good.

You call other fanboys? To me, you sound like a pretty big MS fanboy, and X360 isn't that good! The PS3 and X360 are very close, it's just different because the devs cant handle the PS3's power. That way the graphic may vary and one game might be better on the other console

Seriously, don't dis the 360. This site is gay Its full of a bunch of PC Gamers and PS3 fanboys who can't stand that Microsoft and Nintendo make it so hard for Sony to survive in the gaming industry. This is retarded. I figured buying the DSi on the release date would make the technology last a year or two. Guess i'll put that idea in the wrong book right before straightening my hair and after buying 4 pairs of skinny jeans.

@ dRuGGeRnaUt the original ps3 was a pretty close size wise to the 360 but then you seem to be forgetting the 360s massive power adapter which when together are pretty big

seriously though, all the people on here. It is a WELL known fact that the japanese do not like northamerican made electronics, look at apples sales of the ipod and iphone, they aren't doing any better. Then look at the sales in north america. The original xbox did not sell. The main reason most japanese people gave was that it wasn't esthetically pleasing and was to big and bulky. Look how big the original ps3 was compared to the 360.. so that wasn't it. Maybe its just the games. Japanese gamers are into a COMPLETELY different type of gaming. just look at their top 10, i am amazed that l4d2 is even on there.. i mean SERIOUSLY mario and sonic winter games in the top ten!???!?!? ouch

.. so pokemon ran out of regular colors to call there games, now they are into adding "soul" in front of gold or silver.. wow. I have a friend(believe it or not! ;) and he has bought almost all of the pokemon games, and even he himself says alot of these titles are exactly the same, with incremental changes every now and then. Personall Im waiting for "Pokemon Semi-transparent-magenta-ish-cyan"

Seriously though, go look through the comments, and pro-xbox comment has like 1 thumb up and 13 down, whereas some says quote "XBOX SUCKS PS3 IS THE BEST XBOX WILL DIE AND GOTO HELL" and it is 13 thumbs up and 3 down. March 2010: Nintendo announces new DSiXL due to sales being little less than expected; DSiXL with inbuilt LED light. And they just might do it too, looking at what they've been doing with the DSi lately.

Nintendo could make a new DS out of wood and it will sell 100,000 units inspite of the slivers many would receive

Hard to believe that a game like Left 4 Dead 2 is on this list. I thought that Japan didn't like games like that.

Wow.Nintendo created the fourth version of DS and they sold 100,553 of them. I am impressed.

The DSi XL is a joke don't get me wrong I adore my DS lite but this whole DSi thing is just a sad attempt by Nintendo to get more money I mean at least the original DS and DS lite look almost nothing alike the DSi and DS lite look almost the same the only difference is a camera and a ds store and no GBA slot which to me is a stupid idea also the XL can't be good for the DS graphics with teh screen bigger you will see the flaws much more

It's just a different game market than here. I just think that the numbers are pretty irrelevant to American audiences though. The games that sold well for the Japan market are just not for American audiences at all. Hopefully the Japanese will do something about Street Fighter 4's on-line matchmaking system to make it more competitive.

DSi with 32 GB microSDHC card. PSP Go with 64 GB microSDHC-to-Memory Stick adapter. iPod Classic with 120 GB storage? Or nothing. (The following posting makes no sense whatsoever, as the person who posted it hasn't had any coffee yet, nor has read the morning paper.)

Japan is all about the newest tech...if the PSP is outselling the Go like that then they might as well pull the plug now because it's sure not going to get any better in other regions.

@Yuck_Too If you haven't noticed at the moment some 360 exclusives have been realised, that is most likely the cause....... I'm just saying.

Once again the 360 post higer game sales then the PS3...don't care who you are or what you say that's a shift the market will be watching.

Yeah...I think I'll stick with my DS Lite. What's next? The "DSi XL Ultima! Now with a thinner, more precise stylus!" How about instead of investing in hardware, invest in software like say, oh, I don't know...F-Zero Wii? Kirby Wii? Star Fox Wii? How about a remake of Kid Icarus? Or Earthbound? Or even a sequel called Luigi's Mansion 2? Thanks for the new Zelda coming out...finally...and NSMBW is pretty cool, along with Super Mario Galaxy 2! Maybe with the $$$ you're getting from the DSi XL sales, you can invest in something we really want...?

I think i will just get a PSP 3000 i like the games and graphics there better. The only game i wish i stil had my other DS's for is Zelda spirit tracks thats it.

I live in Japan now. The DS is popular because of all of the functions you can buy that act like games. Dictionaries, travel guides, restaurant guides as well as games are big business here. As an added bonus Japanese are obsessed with buying the newest model and showing their friends that they have the most "up to date ver." When they want to upgrade, they trade in their old version (Softmap is a popular place to do this) and they buy a new one. The funny thing is that most hard core games take such good care of their stuff that the used games and consoles are in near mint condition.

@ colonialpikachu The whole "throw a bone" spill was in reference to Capcom and their SSFIV pricing, they would have priced that game a full price and it would justify all the content that the Disc will have. What your saying about console makers not making profits by promising gamers a future product is moronic, everyone knows that. Your stating the obvious. Console makers make profits out of their current console for their own stability. But at the same time, it's common sense that if your garnishing a massive amount of profits because your #1, then the Company will green light any and all major developments for the next generation console. Your missing my point entirely. the PS3 is a power house of a console because of the PS2's success. While the Wii is not considered a "next gen" console by all because of the how the Gamecube faired... in 3rd place!

I'm really shocked that the DS Lite is outselling than the PSP and the XBOX360. I really would've thought that everyone would stop buying the lite with the DSi and the DSi XL out in Japan.

Also, the iPod sold well because it had a huge memory, good design, and amazing support software. Therefore it could be twice or three times the price of other MP3 players and sell well. A company should get profits with either a good product or a good price, they sure won't give you the next great system free.

@ TruXael Yeah, it's all about a profit, you're right. And a company makes a profit by making a good system, or selling a less than great system at great prices. Look at the Wii, the motion controls were crappy, but it sold like hotcakes because it was only $250, that's not "throwing someone a bone", it's making up for a second-rate product. Companies don't get profits by promising gamers better future products, it's the company's job to look out for itself.
