@GameFan1983, I wasn?t impugning your intelligence by saying you were eight. What I meant was that you must be young because you obviously don?t remember the Ps2 and probably never owned one. As for the Wii being the most successful console ever, you might be right about that profit-per-console wise; but I stand by my statement that the Wii will never approach the 130 million PS2s sold. Wii sales are already slowing down worldwide; and like any fad, once all the nongamers buy one, Wii sales will continue to slow. It is already happening worldwide. By the way, I have a Wii, a PS3, and a 360; and believe me, the Wii is a novelty.

...this year, the PS3 will win this year! Tekken 6 and FFXIII sealed it, not even Forza, or MW2 can beat those. The Wii's already first, but after FFXIII came out... I'm importing it day 1.

It's no surprise to see the PS3 sales have increased during the second half of this year in Japan, since Final Fantasy 13 is about to be released there soon. Sony is probably very happy to see what they are seeing this year, since last year the Xbox 360 was outselling the PS3 in Japan thanks to all those exclusive JRPG games like Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean 4, and The Last Remnant. Wii sales seem to have declined now that HDTV sets are more of a "standard" thing in homes, but the Wii still sells very well and has such a huge lead over the competition that the Wii will remain #1 in Japan. So, I'm sure Nintendo is still happy about that. I think Nintendo will lower the price by another $50 at the start of 2010.

I'm glad to see that the PS3 and Xbox 360 are experience such nice software sales in Japan. I think this is particularly impressive for the Xbox 360, because it has exceeded Japanese sales expectations for hardware and software by such a significant margin this generation. Congratulations to all three game companies for doing so well in Japan lately!

Too much like Devil May Cry. I'm kinda done with the Japanese action titles like this. They don't seem epic anymore. I'll stick to the Fighters and RPG's though.

im a roust.. do not expect any current console to exceed what ps2 sales or ps1 sales , b ecause 1 games are more expensive and theirs less rpgs , , thats the main reason ps2 ds ps1 all sold over 100 million nes sold 80 million followed by snes 60 and wii 55+ wii did not stall , it just slowed . theres a big difference it only stalled 10 thousand , that is not much for sony to celebrate dont forget nintendo for 3 yrs striaght out sold ps3 2 to 1 some times even 3 to 4 to 1 , so its not nothing to celebrate us sales are about even so , , wii is still on track , , may not get 100 , but im sure itll get near nes sell mark , its already at 60 ,, , which is snes sale mark , and what console after snes besiides gba ds was nintendo ever sellling more then 30 k . the point here is the wii is nintendos first succesfull console since snes , 360 is ms in its own rights first success ful microsoft console , , as far as the hd market is concerned, but that will change once ps3 over takes it it will not over take wii , thats a dream that wont come true because of the 3 yr 3 to 1 advantage nintendo had , ,

The 10 year console lifespan is not unprecedented. The Gameboy was introduced in 1989. It's successor won't be released until 2001. The PS2 was introduced in 2000. It's successor would be introduced in 2006. Support for the PS2 would be extended but the Sony intended to replace it with the PS3. Following the computation of support for the PS2 as a 10 year life cycle then the NES would have the longest being introduced in 1985 and officially retired by Nintendo in 2007.

@Jhoalot MS and Sony do lose money for every console they sell. I don't think that's the case anymore now of course, but typically when a console is first released they lose money untill they figure out a way to produce them cheaper. Just google it, it's true.

@ CorruptGamerGX ?? And where did you read that it's inferior in every way? What is that supposed to mean anyways? This game doesn't exactly look like it's pushing any boundaries the PS3 can't handle. I swear people here sometimes just make stuff up off the top of their heads just to get a rise out of people and appear right for a second or two.

@gamefan1983 It's not over till it's over. PS2 had a 10 year life cycle. No console to date besides the PS brand can say that. You see those tabs up there that direct you to a consoles homepage? You see that tab called "Gamecube"? No? Oh yea that's right, because x-box and Nintendo dropped support for those consoles when there successor was released, there's no games for them! In terms of sales, yea it's impressive, but Iwata just said in a news article the Wii has stalled, and sorry to say, if they don't start making some real games soon for the thing then the Wii won't surpass the ps2 in sales. It's kinda hard to even call the thing a video game machine anymore if all people are doing with it is working out.

@TheImporter You are probably older than 8, but your IQ still hanging around at that domain. even as current state, wii already had 1/2 of PS2's world wide sales. but have you asked yourself how long PS2 has been around vs wii?? here, 9 years vs 3 years, PS2 will be discontinued no later then 2010, and Wii isn't even reach half of its life circle. 6 years after you think ps2 or any other console will come anywhere near wii at sales?? simple math really, silly boy, BTW, I don't even own a Wii

bayonetta, awesome love this type action game

I don't care how many copies it sells. I'm not buying it. It looks a bit over-the-top for me. I loved Devil May Cry however, but I'm passing on this one.

My friend (a PS3 owner) also told me the PS3 version of Bayonetta is supposed to be inferior to the 360 version. Not sure where he got his info from, but I'm interested to the see the reviews in comparison. Considering the installed base, it's somewhat impressive that the 360 version could sell almost half of the PS3 version in Japan. But of course, next week the former will be off of the top 10 while the latter will still be in. At any rate, I'm a 360 owner in Japan who plans to buy Bayonetta. The trial version was freaking awesome.

Nintendo actually sold 83,000 more software than Sony. Its really the DS that sells well as the Wii is complete trash for the week. Are people waiting for New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Modern Warfare. Bayonetta won't have that luck as in Japan as here in the states is more about Modern Warfare 2.

the xbox 360 version is better because it was ported to PS3, it DOES NOT mean 360 is better in terms of graphics performance. Make no mistake and try understand the whole thing here. PS3 > XBOX, it is a fact.

360 had half the sales of the ps3. That is amazing and Japanese actually acknowledge the 360 as a good system. Awesome week for Sony as it sold everything well but the ps2. Glad Nintendo lost with Sony and hopefully they will make better games.

That's a really good sales for Bayonetta, good for PlatinumGames. I'm hoping it would also sell well when it's released here.

And? You are aware the PS3 port of Bayonetta is inferior to the 360 version in every way. Being outsold 2:1 by an inferior port makes it more embarrassing. Speaking of Xbox3fixme, it was so close to outselling DS Lite for a change. Must suck being at the bottom Worldwide on a weekly basis.

i don't understand why people say that sony and microsoft lose $ when they sell a console, if the case where that they obviosly will stop selling, they cannot take the risk of regaining the $ loss in selling games,there are third party games andthey not gain the $60 dollars of the game they only gain like 20 of that game! And that is the risk

my question for nintendo is, if the wii is making so much money where are the games and third party support? where is all the money being spent? it should be going towards getting some third party games so we don't have to wait around for the three or four AAA games they make every year. also to the people who think nintendo can coast for the rest of this generation, they can't. what they do now effects the next generation that's just around the corner.

Good to see Bayonetta is selling well. I am looking forward to playing it next year.
