I played the original BC and loved it way back in '89, but I gotta admit the remake was pretty sweet. I would love to see this done for a few other classics.
Ex-GRIN developers establish retro-minded Might and Delight studio in Stockholm, "advancing back to the '80s."
Almost exactly a year after 2008's Bionic Commando Rearmed was released, the game's developer, Swedish studio GRIN, closed its doors. That developer is gone, but its demise paved the way for multiple new studios to be established.
A couple dozen former GRIN developers from Terminator: Salvation started up Outbreak Studios to work on games for the iPhone and PC before the closure had even been announced, and today the Bionic Commando Rearmed team announced its reformation as Might and Delight. The developers did not specify a first project but proclaimed they were "here to repeat our former success."
"It's no secret we love retro," the developer said. "Our ambition is to continue doing what we started with Rearmed. Small, fresh games with strong old school flavor."
GRIN's Bionic Commando Rearmed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC was the first--and the best-reviewed--of four titles the Swedish studio would produce in its final year. While Rearmed sold well out of the gate, the studio's Wanted: Weapons of Fate, Terminator: Salvation, and stand-alone revamp of Bionic Commando all fell critically and commercially short.

I wish more studios had the ambition to revamp our classics, or make fresh new games with a classic feel to them.
I enjoyed BC (not Rearmed). Simply one of the best games out there. I don't get at all why everybody hates it.
they would be better off getting jobs at high profile developers to sharpen their craft .... there is nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself.... I just don't think anyone involved on that team should be making games themselves.. their games just aren't that good... even at their best they are well below the average of great..... we don't need more B games.
Rearmed was awesome... if they can get back to making games similar to that, or even make another Bionic Commando sidescroller game in the same vein, they could find success again.
Considering what a complete mess Rearmed was to play and how much I regretted wasted my money on it, purely motivated by a high score (which I dont understand), I hope they do better games then this one. Honestly... that game was just awful. I realise it was a remake, but the arm just DID NOT work correctly. One of the most frusrtating games i've ever played.
I've yet to play Rearmed, but being an old school gamer, I'd like to give it a try. I've heard a lot of good things about it. I wonder if M&D would help with the next Eat Lead platformer? The franchise has a lot of great ideas behind it, but its execution is lacking.
Man, I loved BC: Rearmed, and I loved the 3D Bionic commando too. I bought the game (really cheap btw) and beat it in two evenings, and I was highly amused all the time I played it. Got to say I'm an arcade lover since I was a kid, but BC was pretty underrated.
gLad to see some of the grin emplyees reformed. I also don't understand the hate for bionic commando. I feel its underrated.
the latest bionic commando - what a bad game... that camera made me sick more than once, and the weapons system... well I guess somethings should stay in 2d
@Hershertonfist Forget Road Rash I want Skitchin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wbVnEN17vU
What they should do is take the original idea of Bionic Commando and add a God of War camera and control scheme to it. It's been used in many games that have an old school feel and that has worked.
@Gelugon_baat Like all those anime creators milk the same crap over and over and over using the same art stencil. Learn how to draw anime in 5mins.
I liked the PS3 game pretty well, but the Rearmed series was as bad as the original. No, jumping is just lame. Any Spider-Man and Batman game lets you jump then swing with a grappling hook.
I love 2D gaming, and wish we had more quality games. Been playing Shadow Complex, and it's easily my favorite 2D game thus far this year. More quality 2D games are always welcomed!
Remake GUARDIAN LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMg that would be sweet in HD. Or Do what square is too busy to do and reamke FF7 in HD Another cool 8 bit game would be Faxanadu brought to HD
I loved Bionic Commando, even with its shortcomings, I didn't like what it did to the story though. Ignoring BC alltogether and making a Re:armed 2 would be awesome. I hope Capcom would let them remake more of their old games, I remember one of the designers mention that he would like a crack at MM2 (or something along those lines) that could potentially be awesome.
BC Rearmed was a great game, but the maps themselves were the same maps in the original. I'd like to see some new content from them; designing graphics and sound is one thing, but in 2D games, platform design is key and I haven't seen anything special from them yet.
Re-armed 2 would be welcomed or maybe an Ikari Warriors remake. You could use the overhead bonus part found in Re-armed? Where you blow up the trucks and soldiers. I would buy it. Good news, interested to see what the new team bring to the table. :)
To be honest i would prefer the team who made bionnic commando, but anyway re armed is still good i guess.
"here to repeat our former success." Re-armed was ok but I would hardley call Bionic Commando, Terminator Salvation and Wanted Weapons of Fate were successful. I hope they come out with a new IP or something.
Do people not read articles? Or do they just not understand how team based development works in game studios? The team being mentioned here was the one that worked on Rearmed, which was fantastic. I'm all for more games that come from the better part of Grin.
What, are they going to try beating a dead horse now? I mean are they going to try another Bionic Commando or Wanted maybe another abysmal Terminator game??? The only Terminator game I ever liked was the arcade version of T2. Wanted kicked ass as a film but I wasn't too eager to play the game..... There aren't very many movie to game adaptations that I like and it's true in film too, not many good game to film adaptations.....
I hope they developed some new talent as well. Bionic Commando was horrible! Just Cause 2 is more like how Bionic Commando should've been.Maybe Grin should have asked to borrow Eidos's Avalanche Engine. Those barriers in Bionic drove me insane, but that's just one of the many gripes to that one.
BC Rearmed was an awesome game... It was the only thing good to come out of Grin. Hopefully the guys who made it can continue to put out decent games, and they aren't associated with the abysmal parent company that umbrella'd them with bad devs.
They seem to realize that their strength was in making Rearmed...and not anything else they did. So I'm happy that this sounds like great news.
I enjoyed Bionic Commando Rearmed. It had it's faults but for the most part it was an entertaining game.
No offense but this studio should probably just stay dead. After playing all there games I gotta say these guys need a new line of work.
That's good. I wish them all the luck and success in the world (to the new development studio). "The old school games never die"! :)
