I'm all for delaying a game if they are doing it to get it right. It's a shame some of the devs left. I wonder if that had more to do with it?
Upcoming first-person shooter pushed to February 26 to give Irrational Games time to make the title "even more extraordinary"; game won't be at E3, GamesCom.
BioShock Infinite will not ship this October as previously announced. Take-Two Interactive today announced that Irrational Games' upcoming first-person shooter will now be released on February 26, 2013.
In a statement, Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine explained that the extra development time will afford the studio an opportunity to pursue new game ideas.
"When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing," he said. "Since then, we've uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we've decided to move the game's release to February."
In an update to the Irrational Games website, Levine also explained that BioShock Infinite will not be shown at this summer's Electronic Entertainment Expo and GamesCom.
"That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box," he explained. "Preparing for these events takes time away from development."
When BioShock Infinite does ship, it will do so with great sales expectations. In August 2011, one analyst suggested the game would be a significant financial boon for Take- Two, saying it could ship 4.9 million copies.
BioShock Infinite is set in Columbia, a flying city in an early alternate 20th century where utopian ideals have given way to chaos in a sea of weaponry, plasmid-like powers, and political upheaval. Into this mess steps the game's protagonist, Booker DeWitt, a former member of the feared Pinkerton National Detective Agency, which was America's largest security company in the late 19th century. According to GameSpot's latest preview, DeWitt will enter a world where steampunk robots have replaced horses and people, and where crazed citizens foment revolution with strange powers--and lots of guns.
They should have saved the idea(s) for a follow up or different title and kept their Q4 release date.
Holiday going be suck because of new Nintendo system WiiU and there games. I just hope Nintendo got there consle right even Super Smash Bros.
Yeah the Wii U doesn't look like agood console that can be used to versatile a game. Its like it has limited capability and won't be enough to satisfy every gamers.I'm afraid that Nintendo might end up being gamegear from back then.
lol its gotta be done, you know how duke nukem FOREVER took a long time.... this is bioshock INFINITE! nah this is gonna be good I'm glad more devs are taking time rather than rushing good quality beats having it sooner anyday
Hey Does anybody remember that Bioshock 2 was also delayed until February of the following year...a coincidence....what Call of Duty came out that year I wonder...
i needed a break down on this game.it was all in the news last year.watched the trailer has lots of wierd characters in there.the game was pretty wierd to me couldn't make heads or tales to me.if bio shock fans are out there.stand up for ur game and win me over!i need a breakdown on this game!
From the sounds of it now they would have to pull off a HL2 quality of FPS to truly make this worth it. Not due to the wait necessarily, but rather given the amount of First person games/First Person Shooters out there as it is...they would really have to nail the design and pacing of this game to impress. There's only so much that can be done with an FPS, even if they add RPG elements.
I doubt they're adding features at this point, more than likely they're nailing down mechanics of that wild sky rail system they've hyped up so much. Better get it out before next-gen consoles hit though.
A Feb release date is a great business plan for them due to it being a dead zone, but it is also a quiet period where others don't buy as much. Sales will be a slow progress but knowing Bioshock it will succeed in it's 4.9 mil copies.
I wish more devs would delay their games for such reasons, however, one has to wonder if this isn't an attempt to move out of another crowded holiday of great games.
Its No surprise Given a Halo 4 release ans Call of Duty black ops 2 nobody would buy Bioshock infinite its Bull....
if it's for money or polish, i don't care, the delay will be a benefit for me. too many games come out at the end of the year and if it's rushed then that's not always good either. i feel we the customers and they the sellers both benefit by the delay.
yea... i pretty much lost hope for this game months ago, even if it was gonna be decent its still a next gen game which means they'll have no choice but to shove stupid multiplayer into the mix which will steal atleast 5 hours from the story as well as take away a few in game features they might've had in mind, and besides... everyone's saying the worlds gonna end this year so we might not live to see it finished anyway.. lol
Guys don't trick yourself. This is not about making a polished game, this is about delaying the game until the next generation systems come out so they can bank there money on that. The gaming industry is mostly about money now, not the fans. I thought about this for awhile, and I just realized why they delayed it.
I'm glad you figured this out. let me know how your new console is in February...The rest of us will be stuck in reality and won't get to see it until Q4 2013 at the earliest.
OoOO Next generation game!!!. Hahah the xbox 420 and the ps4 should have atleast one great launce title.
I hope it will be not as watered down as bioshock was that was one of the biggest disappointments in gaming for me.
It's all part of the bigger plan, GTA V is the October release and Bioshock is the 2013 release. Unless they're gonna make 2013 there year, by releasing both GTA V and Bioshock infinite. I don't know..
All these rumours of GTA V being releases in October and then suddenly the delay of Bioshock is just weird! good weird!
normally i'd be like 'WTF?!' but this is actually a relieve since re6 already comes out october (which of course could also be a market choice to push it back). now i got plenty of time playin that the rest of 2012 en start 2013 with infinite. those 2 games are the only ones i really cared about this year.
so any1 ideas what i can play till october? ;) i already got dmc hd, but since i got them all on ps2 too it won't hold me busy for long.
It's great to see a Dev allowing time to make a polished game, instead of rushing it out the door before it's ready.
Seeing as I have no idea what's going on in the studio, I'm not even going to try and analyze this. All I can say is that I'm very, very, very disappointed that I have to wait even longer.
Damn it,I think that all those articles about revealing too much information about enemies and the game, pushed them back on the drawing board
Blizzard and Valve can get away with delaying their games because when they do release them, they are titles that are built to last the ages.
Bioshock, as good as it was, is not a game you would play over and over and I don't see Bioshock Infinite carrying that much replay value unless they somehow managed to come up with a truely addictive MP experience, which is what I'm assuming they're trying to do with the extra time this delay can afford. I don't see it happening, so I have to say the delay is a mistake.
The fanboys will try to spin this to a positive but I don't like that he said they would use the time to come up with new game ideas. They were going to come out with the game in October and now they are going to use an additional 4 months to come up with "new ideas". They should already be close to polishing this game and now they are coming up with new ideas. It would be one thing if he said they are delaying to iron out tech issues and polish the game. That's fine and many companies should do that. But this is just PR spin and the fanboys are lapping it up.
Very disappointing news indeed... :(
I don't doubt what Levine says, but I can't help but wonder if this is also Take-Two's plan... If GTAV DOES get released this October, surely that would clash with BioShock's release and sales...?
