Description

We're always focused on what's next: upcoming games, behind-the-scenes reports from industry events across the world, interviews with game developers, and a few surprises here and there.

Today we managed to get a new video and a bunch of screens from Atari's upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit. The video features two characters, Trunks and Recoome, duking it out in a rather scenic nature setting. Beautiful mountains, grassy hills--it really makes you wonder what provoked such a brawl. Maybe taking a look at their histories can help answer that question...

Trunks

The details:

  • Japanese Voice Actor: Takeshi Kusao
  • English Voice Actor: Eric Vale
  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Z (Android Saga)
  • Race: Half Saiyan and half Earthling
  • Character Traits: Honest and serious
  • Fast Fact: Carries a sword given to him by Tapion
  • Fighting Style: Relies heavily on his sword
  • Opponents: VS Frieza, Android 13, and others

Trunks is the son of Bulma and Vegeta. To change his shattered future--a world where most of the Z-fighters have been killed by the merciless androids--he travels to the past in a time machine. In his own time, Gohan, the last surviving Z-fighter, had been Trunks' friend and mentor. Trunks looks forward to seeing Gohan again and meeting his father, Vegeta, for the first time.

Recoome

The details:

  • Japanese Voice Actor: Kenji Utsumi
  • English Voice Actor: Christopher Sabat
  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Z (Freiza Saga)
  • Race: Alien
  • Character Traits: Has great confidence in himself, easily elated, and won't break his joking style
  • Fast Fact: Always poses before a fight
  • Fighting Style: Uses brute force to make it look like he's fighting effortlessly
  • Opponents: VS Vegeta, Gohan, Goku, and others

Recoome is a member of Frieza's elite fighting unit, the Ginyu Force. Having been summoned by Frieza to aid in the search for the Namekian Dragon Balls, Recoome unleashes his overwhelming power upon Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan. He uses many original techniques, such as the eraser gun and the Recoome kick. At one point, he was prepared to unleash his secret ultimate move, the ultra fighting bomber, but Goku stopped him before he had the chance.

So what have we learned from all this? These guys just plain love to fight. A lot. And in our new video, you can really get a look at how the game is trying to replicate their fighting styles. Trunks is quick and agile, using his sword to go for those strong attacks. He's also serious and quiet, but he isn't afraid to turn super Saiyan when he gets angry. Recoome couldn't be any more different. Always posing, laughing, and making funny noises--this guy is quite the jokester. The video really seems to capture the spirit of these two characters as they proceed to beat the living daylights out of each other.

Want more? Take a look at our preview from earlier this month and then stay tuned for more coverage on Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit.

As a fan of the series since the SNES, i'm looking forward to trying this one out. Has anyone here ever played the DBZ games released for the Sega Saturn. As simplistic as they were, there was a lot of fun to be had.

I couldnt disagree with you more GDCalibur, cutscenes have no place in fighting games. Especially as frequent as they are in the Budokia series and seemingly in this upcoming game. and the Dragon Rush system was just a terrible idea, it seems most people for some reason prefer this Tekken-esque style for a DBZ game. However I prefered Spikes open world style, less reliance on cinema scenes mid battle, and better capture of the style of the show.

this is for (lordSchmee) i think gamespot knows what there talking about... trunks (did) get his sword from tapion. yeah tapion wasn't around when he was, but you have to remember trunks was from the future and came and went as he wanted... he didn't have to be in an exact place and time for him to recieve the sword.

The game appears to have its next-gen vibe going on. But to be honest, I fell off with this series after Budokai 3. It seemed too much of the same after that. This game is definitely for HARDCORE fans only. I'm just a moderate fan, as in I moderately watch and enjoy the show. I couldn't tell a Kamehameha from a... I honestly don't know where I was going with that one. I want to see some innovation, that's all.

Mirai(Future) Trunks sword didnt come from Tapion, that was Chibi Trunks, who grows into gay GT Trunks, also the movies dont count i the timeline. Mirai Trunks got his sword somewhere else, it's not specified.

This game is going to be not so good due to the fact it has only 4 characters in it and it goes only to the Cell Saga here is a hint Budokai has more characters than Burst Limit

Hopefully this game won't be overhyped and then suck, like some other games!
My bro bought Budokai 3, and was enjoyable. Hopefully, DBZ Burst Limit for the PS3 with the six-axis and with Dual Shock 3 coming soon, it will destroy other fighting games off the map!

This better not be a ploy to overhype this game.

And the downgrade seems harsh. Ending the game at that point merely to sell this and the expected sequels.
It better have MORE content otherwise it'd be Budokai 1.1

This is something new gamespot does. Character or unit profiles. Most of the time they are lame and seem like free advertisement for the game publisher.

This game does look amazing, but it doesnt have the right amount of characters as before. Now its like budokai 1 and its gonna take forever to get every character back. Plus, i wanted the game after t3 to have gt vegeta, gt goten, gt gohan, u no the works. i give it 8/10.

i really liked the original budokai series, i'm glad they are going back to that style of play, instead of the weird behind the back camera of the tenkaichi series.
my one problem is that it only covers half of the dbz series, i would have liked it to go through dragonball and then all the way through dbz
