  • PAX 2009. Another great event is in the can.

Just got back from Seattle, WA where the GameSpot crew was out covering the Penny Arcade Expo 2009, and what a great event that was. This was my first PAX and it was really great to be surrounded by so many people that were so excited about all forms of gaming. When you attend so many events geared specifically for the gaming press, it's very easy to forget that there are so many more people out there that would love to be in your shoes, doing what we get to do and seeing what we get to see. It's great to attend an event which is obviously geared towards the people who these games are created for... the people who are the most passionate about games.. all the gamers out there who travel distances far and wide to be able to attend an event like PAX. It was a great reminder that, as we work to get through all the videos we shot at PAX, there are people all over the world that wished they could have been there. It's our job to try and give them a taste of what this event was like. In addition to all the cool stuff that you saw hitting the site this past weekend like demos for great games like Forza Motorsport 3, Star Wars the Old Republic, MAG, Ratchet and Clank Future: a Crack in Time, and DeathSpank, you'll be seeing the wonderful keynote by co-creator of Money Island Ron Gilbert, the LucasArts/BioWare SW:TOR live presentation in its entirety, more interviews and demos, and a wrap up piece for TOTS making their way on to the site. Hopefully all of our hard work will help you bring a bit of PAX into your lives and make you remember why you're so obsessed about games. It sure helped me.

  • Minor Delay With TOTS Saturday Episode

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you a quick notice about the delay of the Saturday show. You might have noticed that the timeer has changed to display the show as starting an hour later than planned.

As you know, we're getting accustomed with our new format of three days a week. Unfortunately, there was a little hang up from one of our machines that works the magic in making the new show. We are expecting to have the show up a little after 5pm PT.

Please check in by posting that you kindly read this notice and if you didnt get the emblem for posting feedback for the season premiere, I'll grant the season premiere TOTS emblem for the inconvenience. Thanks for your patience during this time.

NOTE: The emblem will only be granted up until the timestamp of the show being avaiable for viewing.

    Howdy Everyone,

Welcome to the Producer's Note, our new blog dedicated to all things video, including our new show starting this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. called Today On the Spot!

If you've been coming to the site regularly, you know we've produced a weekly live show for the past four and a half years called On the Spot. The show began as an attempt to bring our audience closer to what we see and do every day: seeing the latest and greatest games, getting the news straight from the source, and covering events as they unfold live. The original idea was to simply have a unique way to communicate back and forth with our audience once a week. Nearly five years later, it's time to build a better show.

    Today On The Spot

Today On the Spot will still be very similar to the show you remember, but now you'll have three new episodes every week. Each Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 4:00 p.m., we'll be posting a new episode that will run about 15 minutes in length. Each of the three show days--Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday--will have a mix of old and new segments rotating in along with the news, demo, and trivia you've come to expect. Your favorite segments from OTS, like Import Friendly and Starting Block, will return, but we've been busy dreaming up all kinds of new stuff that you'll hopefully agree is pretty awesome.

Although the new show may not be a live broadcast, we're making sure that you'll have the opportunity to interact with us. You can still send us questions and comments like before, but we're also going to be on the lookout for cool original video content that you send us. If we like what you send our way, we might include all or some of your content in future episodes. On top of that, one of our new segments will be a member's spotlight that will single out remarkable members of the community.

The new format gives us more flexibility with the content we produce and leaves the door open for live events too. In addition, check this blog regularly for a behind-the-scenes look at the show and for a peek at some director's cut videos featuring stuff that didn't make it to air. Did we mention better prizes, guests, and segments? Tune in this Thursday, because the first few to submit a correct answer to our trivia questions will win either a deluxe edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum or a Shadow Complex download code.
While we could go on and on, let's just say that your show has returned, and we're looking to have some fun. One thing hasn't changed: The best part of Today On the Spot will be our interaction with you, so let your voice be heard, and send an e-mail to onthespot@gamespot.com .
