Bulletstorm raining on 360, PS3, PC
Epic Games and People Can Fly's EA Partners-published first-person shooter detailed for Microsoft's and Sony's platforms, due Q1 2011.
Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski had his thunder stolen twice in advance of an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight. Following a last-minute rescheduling of the TV appearance, an Xbox Live advertisement preemptively announced Gears of War 3 early Friday morning. Later that day, Game Informer magazine's cover pegged Bleszinski's second teased game announcement, the People Can Fly-developed Bulletstorm.
Cover thus blown, EA announced today that it would publish Bulletstorm for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2011. In laying out its release schedule for the 2011 fiscal year in February, EA had said that it planned to release its then unnamed "shooter from Epic" between January and March 2011.
Having established itself with the Painkiller franchise, People Can Fly adapted Epic Games' Gears of War for the PC. Epic subsequently purchased a majority stake in the Polish studio in 2007 and then teamed with EA Partners to distribute the studio's newest intellectual property announced today.
In Bulletstorm, gamers take up with Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato, two mercenaries who have been exiled by the organization they once served after learning that its leaders were corrupt. The two are then packed off to a remote world populated by "hordes of mutants and flesh-eating gangs," where they must survive, escape, and take revenge on their former employer.
Players will assume the role of Hunt, who is proficient with oversized weapons and melee fighting. One primary feature of the game will be Hunt's ability to perform "skillshots," which provide a system of rewards for "inciting mayhem in the most creative way possible." By successfully performing skillshots, players will gain points and unlock more ways to dispatch of their enemies.
