Irish gaming site claims musician behind Rockstar Vancouver's juvenile delinquency simulator will be starting up work on sequel soon.
Source: Largely unknown Irish gaming site The Gaming Liberty.
What we heard: It's been a long time coming, but Rockstar Vancouver will soon put the finishing touches on Max Payne 3. Originally scheduled for a winter 2009 release, Max Payne 3 was bumped to the first half of 2010. Following that game's launch, Rockstar Vancouver will apparently be returning to familiar territory, if an interview with the composer behind the studio's 2006 action adventure Bully is to be believed.
Yesterday, Irish gaming site The Gaming Liberty teased its engagement with Shawn Lee, who in addition to laying down the soundtrack for Bully also scored The Getaway. According to the site, the composer said that his upcoming projects include providing the tunes for Bully 2. "Yes. It looks like I will be doing the soundtrack for Bully 2 in the not so distant future," Lee reportedly said.
The highly regarded original Bully tells the story of Jimmy Hopkins, a delinquent 15 year old that is dumped at the front gates of New England private school Bullworth Academy by his mother. Familiar territory for Rockstar, the game became a lightning rod for controversy upon its release for the PlayStation 2 in 2006 due to its perceived affirmation of negative juvenile stereotypes. Mad Doc Software released an expanded version of the game, Bully: Scholarship Edition, for the Xbox 360, Wii, and PC in 2008.
The official story: Rockstar had not returned requests for comment as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus?: Looking not bogus. Though The Gaming Liberty has no track record to speak of, musicians and other one-off contributors to games have a long and storied history of spilling information on unannounced titles. One example? In 2005, an Eastern European musician gave advanced warning of Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo III in 2005, more than three years before the game was officially announced.
2 years sense this, and no word yet? I hope to hear something at this years E3, if not next year, but it seems like max payne 3 will have to be out before bully will be touched... sad... I myself am still holding out hope that we will see a bully 2...
They should make a Bully 2 on the PS3 this time, not the Xbox 360, The Scholarship Edition was messed up on the Xbox 360. Their mouths matched their words on the PS2 Bully but not the Xbox. The PS3 graphics engine is way better. They would make it look really good.
This better be legit. I just bought Bully and I'm having tons of fun...hmm...maybe the plot would be centred around Juvi Hall?

I'm intrigued. Bully was by far one of the more unique games that game out for the previous-gen consoles (yes, it was re-released for 360 but it was just a port from the previous console version). That said, it was actually a fun game and something that got me hooked. I didn't necessarily like the curfew (isn't being a wild teenager all about breaking the rules?!) but I think a good way to remove it would be to have the game set in college - with Jimmy Hopkins causing Animal House-style mischief. Join a frat, go to class, participate in a intramural sport, send cadavers from the med school to the alumni dinner, and cause hell for the local college town. that would be an awesome premise for a Bully sequel.
BULLY 2! I am really hoping that this is true. To wvervin, they added that to 'add to the realism'.... though, they shouldn't have had every single adult care that you were out of bed 'too late'. Also, they need to SLOW DOWN THE CLOCK in Bully 2 if it comes..... I was surprised how many times just going from one end of Bullworth Vale to the other bicycling as fast as I could that I was pushing the amount of time that I had to finish a task.
I hope curfew is optional this time. I mean you should be able to "get in trouble" if you're out past curfew but I don't wanna HAVE to be in bed by a certain time, that ruined the first game for me.. Either that or make the in game clock slower it went by too fast.
i loved the first one! Never played schollarship edition though... Wath is really liked it was that all the student were different, only the street folks were the same, no student were repeated, maybe placed in diferent places acording to you r place
Man I loved, the original bully it was a beautiful little gem, with its subject matter and rockstars classic tongue in cheek humor. brought back memories from when I was a delinquent back in late middle school/early high school. good times, I will definitely buy the sequel, not only that I will buy copies for all my friends to show them what they are missing.
I want to get 360 version but I don't have 360. PS2 version has dated graphics so I want to get a better version to play. Graphics matters .... a lot.
I liked the first one much more than I thought I would. It was a well-made game in its own right, and was something of a playful spoof on the Grand Theft Auto games that spawned it, with the dialed-down schoolyard weapons and goofy gangs. I'd like to see the series continue.
I wonder if this will take place in his college years or maybe he goes back to Public school? Or maybe he just stay at his current school and it gets renovated. They could take this in soooo many directions. SPOILERS I think it's best he goes to a new school though cuz he ends up being the hotshot of the current academy he is at.
OMG Bully was my favorite game back then when it came out.... I think it was the most unappreciated game ever. I am so hyped
I would love a second Bully game. Imagine it with the RAGE engine and hopefully the Euphoria engine.
Exciting but i was hoping the new bully game would be setting up teen dramas like 90210 or the OC somthing like that. jimmy hopkins is still cool though.
This game was great because we either did all those things we would've like to do back in school or remembered our times
anything from rockstar games now a days is awesome, first bully was awesome I'll definitely buy the next one :)
