Call of Duty: Black Ops PC mod tools due in May

The one game everyone buys and at the same time everyone bltches about. COD. It's always sitting at the top of every sales list, dlc list, and multiplayer lists. I guess that it makes it a bigger target. People, get over it, as of right now, most people OBVIOUSLY love Call of Duty. I"m sure that love will fade one day, as did Guitar Hero. I used to play it like a crack addict smoked crack. Now I only play once every 3 months. But reality is, people do like it or else they wouldn't sell. Duh.

why wont they just kill this series... it's come so far from its respected master piece that was call of duty 1.

@DukeNukeThem Sales show quality. And reviewers agree that Call of Duty is great. Go play Battlefield, son. You can run people over with tanks and NOT get called a noob. Good for kids.

Antivision can frankly piss off! way back when Cod4 was released i played that thing to death and sunk hours upon hours of time in to creating maps and a custom clan map and i really enjoyed it. But then MW2 happend and antivision cut the mod tools, cut the dedicated servers, and any kind of anti cheat system . & that was it for me i never when back after that so if they think i will be making maps for there BS skin job game series well i wont they pissed on the PC crowd and many including myself BLACKLISTED COD, so if they want me sorry i will be playing battelfield burn antivision and the fat cat that runs it>

black ops is one hell of an unstable game , it had crappy graphics yet the framerate sucked compared to when i ran metro 2033 , i say let them fix the stability issues first, i can't play the game for an hour before it crashes on me.

What's the point - Battlefield 2/Bad Company 2 will tide everyone over till Battlefield 3. I am one of many who struggles to understand CoD's success on any level.

Think of it this way: Half-Life 2 outsold Call of Duty Blackops, contrary to popular belief. Think of it- not only do people buy Half-Life 2, they also buy Counter-Strike, Gary's Mod, and Team Fortress. Even Left 4 Dead was inspired by the numerous zombie mod-servers on Counter-Strike. So by releasing mod tools, and giving the customers a chance to put their feedback about a game in action, the developers gain money, even as customers get free content. Even now, however, they worry that they will lose money on 15 dollar DLC packs that give you the 1/100th of the amount of content I can get on any source game for FREE. The truth is: mods make more people who weren't initially going to buy the game more willing to invest in buying it. The fact that even now, they are going to severely limit the capacity to mod the game of these tools shows an immense amount of ignorance on the developer's part. They simply don't understand the community that plays their games at all.

Massive mistake in the text, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2009, not 2008.

I think they finally realised that PC gamers like to make their own mods/DLC and not buy it. The most successful games on PC are always more successful because of mods. I bet gamers on PC are still buying games like Morrowind and System Shock 2 simply because of the mods that still get released for them to this day.

Modding is overrated :) Black Ops is already the best fps(democracy, people say so) of all time. Its fine as is.

Hey i might just buy black ops now! They have taken big steps backwards in mod support after call of duty 4.

If they do bring mods, I might decide to buy Black Ops, seeing that I mainly played World at War for ZombieX.

Would prefer a DA2 modset. Plus i have BO and the 360 so...

I didn't play Black Ops, and I don't intend too. I was so disappointed, as a PC gamer, from the treatment we received with CoD:MW2, that I told myself never to buy a CoD game anymore. It is nice to see that some things changed, but for me it is too late. There are other, and better alternatives to CoD.

Mods, no matter how good they may be, are not enough to bring me back to Black Ops.

Heh, I almost expected them to have you pay for a Modder License or whatever.

lol they prob realized nobody bought the maps for pc version so they are finally releasing it, pc players dont do map packs, we make our own :P

Well I TRIED to play this on my PC, and.... it just wouldnt run right, stu.. stu... stutters galore, and that was on a quad core, gtx460, and 6gb memory, so back to BC2 I went.

But Treyarch failed massively at other things

Gotta give props for bringing back dedicated servers and modding tools with Black Ops. Still can't beat BFBC2, though.

There is a reason why they waited so long to do this. and it's simply because they wanted to milk their customers till their udders were sore and dry. after all, who would buy 10 high quality maps for $30, when you can get over 25 high quality maps and over 75 decent quality ones for $0. and probably free weapons, free game modes and a few total conversion mods on the side.

Incredible, I know they said they'd do it but I never really expected it.Maybe we'll get something decent out of this game after all, like free versions of the maps they have the gall to charge you for, heh heh.

What you meant to say was "There are some purely money related issues like not letting users make maps so that we can charge them $15 instead."

That's suprising, this is the last thing I would expect from activision. It still wouldn't make me play it though.

This is really awesome. How can ANYBODY say anything bad about this? I was starting to doubt them but it looks like Treyarch knows how to treat PC gamers. After MW2 I pretty much gave up on CoD but this rocks.

sure, give the mod tools out after you throw around overpriced map packs, and when MW3 is knocking on the door. Activision aren't dumb, they know releasing mod tools at this point gives you barely enough time to put out any content worth playing before people buy the next game

So down to try out my map-editing skills in a shooter, as I haven't done anything of the sort since UT2k4, which was a whiiiile ago. Good call on their part, if not a little late in the game. If they let us modify things like movement speed and other stuff it'd be very cool to see what kind of more tactical and realism based mods get made.

@josh7845 1. MP's fun as it's ever changing, not scripted at all. 2. can compete against others (mp thrill vs comfortable sp) 3. more intuitive and skill-requiring. 4. basically it's "active" sports with rules.

Now there should be quite a few COD fans here so I must ask, why does multiplayer appeal to you? Since you are a fan of Call of Duty you don't see the story as a particularly important part of a game, so why multiplayer? I'm thinking of writing a piece about multiplayer and it would interest me to know your opinions.

I've already forgotten about Black Ops so this doesnt make a difference or make me wanna start playing it again. Wait, whats Black Ops???

Doesn't add anything to my life as a gamer. By the time mods will come out this game would've been forgotten.
