since when COD became a sport? the game don't require any skills heck anybody can be good at this game.
Call of Duty eSports Championship revealed

Activision partners with Microsoft, MLG, and ESL for 32-team Black Ops II tournament this April with $1 million purse.
Activision today announced the Call of Duty Championship, a new Black Ops II eSports tournament with $1 million up for grabs. In partnership with Microsoft, Major League Gaming, and the Electronic Sports League, Activision will bring 32 of the most skilled teams in the world to Hollywood, California April 5-7 for a tournament to be live-streamed across the world.
Players interested in taking part in the tournament can register at the official official Call of Duty eSports page. All gamers must have a Call of Duty: Elite account (free) to register for the tournament.
Once registered, teams of four can duke it out for entry into the Call of Duty Championship by competing in the February League Play mode for Black Ops, which opens today. The tournament is open only to Xbox 360 gamers.
After the February League Play season comes to a close, the top eight teams will earn spots in the Call of Duty Championship in Hollywood. In addition, the top eight Black Ops II teams from the MLG Winter Championship in March will earn spots at the Call of Duty Championship, as will the top eight from ESL's European Finals.
The remaining eight seats at the Call of Duty Championship will be available to gamers in Asia, Australia, and Brazil. Territory-specific qualification details will be revealed in each region in the coming weeks.
According to Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia, eSports integration has been an "integral" part of Black Ops II since the company began development on the game. For more on the Call of Duty Championship, check out the video below.

Can people with normal life and jobs become top players of any game ?
i have trouble understanding this cause i take 2 weeks to end a 20 hour game lol
@carolino No, normal people with normal lives can't compete. However, I'm sure being good at a video game will look great on their resume in the real world, lol.
@BarkingSpider81 @carolino 'cause normal is always the best thing to be. so what if it's nerdy and a game? there's also real skill, and real strategy, and real money at stake. do you know what a resume is? it's supposed to get you jobs. do you know what winning a major esports tournament is? you have a blast, make good friends, and win significant money. there is no right way to live life, dude.
As little as I care about the Super Bowl I would be more enthusiastic about watching it than this, thanks to the oh-so-boring genre of the game--NO WAIT! I would rather watch The World Series! ...Because, you are correct, I can't stay awake through a game of baseball.

I play a lot of COD but I won't for a second say it qualifies as a sport. If it is I'm an amazing athelete. LOL.
@params7 Treyarch is not the group that decided on what platform to host the tournament on. Activision is the publisher and they own the CoD IP. Activision is the group that decided to host it on the Xbox 360 over the PS3. This is probably due to the fact that Microsoft agreed to support this by streaming it to the Xbox LIVE dashboard along with promotional reasons. Not sure why Sony wouldn't want to support this. Maybe Sony didn't raise their hand quick enough.
Haha, competitive FPS gaming on a console? Please, please tell me they disable the console's aim-assistance. I'm not sure how you can have a "competitive" game when the computer does most of the precision aiming for you.
I think it's a cool idea, maybe more publishers will do this and there will be way more tournaments besides CoD. Be pretty kick ass to see a BF3 tournament with squads. I can see all the little kids dropping out of high school and training to become the best CoD player in the world.

@Deadman_est1982 I still chuckle every time I hear about Red Sox players eating fried chicken, drinking beer, and playing video games in the clubhouse while live MLB games are going on outside. I chuckle every time I see the Red Sox lose because I hate them so much.
@Deadman_est1982 chess is considered a sport. rethink your logic. eSports games like SC2 are done for entertainment. you watch TV, sports, and Justin Bieber music videos for entertainment. watching games is entertainment as well. it makes it more entertaining when you put money on the line and the pros are tested to their limit. people like you just view this with bias, because you think it is not normal or justified within the rules. it's a game, yeah, but so is baseball, football and chess. since it is future now there are digital sports, called eSports.
sorry but am i the only one here that has 0 respect for mlg? all it is for is big name games with some multiplayer component. its not even the most challenging games. CS has been in for years, BF is more challenging than CoD, SC is about the only respectful game they support. People don't seem to realize MLG isn't the only name in the game. They are just the more advertised.
@another_drew SC and don't forget Halo, Halo has a STEEEEEP learning curve. A well assembled team of good players will eat an average for dinner, it would be disgusting.

@Sardinar @Fr0oTy ... and total bullcrap! I can't believe that Activision has pretty much turned their backs on PC gamers. The first Call of Duty game was on PC and FPS games are meant to be played on PC. It's bad enough that Xbox still gets the map packs before PC, but not including PC gamers in this tournament is downright insulting.
I wonder like what would happen if one of the teams had mice instead of controllers... :))).... I guess it's to easy to eat chinese with a spoon, so that's why we use chopsticks. It's logical, it's not absurd. You wouldn't want your console to resemble a PC now, would you ? It's bad for business

@HAZCHEM88 I'd say 18+ since the game is an 18 anyway. A kid at the age of 13 wouldn't know what to do with $1.
Wow, I like this. I love the format. And I think I'll watch an fps eSport for the first time :) this gives me hope for sc2 as well. :)
It's hard to ignore all the negative/ignorant comments but i'm hanging in there. Just barely. How are you mods and staff at GS doing? Do you have tricks to staying sane?
3 Like Playing video games is not a sport. Stop calling it a sport. And adding a small "e" in front of the word does not signify it as a sport. IT. IS. NOT. A. SPORT.
@nemes1s3000 Playing video games in itself is not a sport. You're correct. Playing video games competitively on a scale such as this IS a variation of a sport. The proper term for this variation is e-sport. You should learn it will because you will be seeing it a lot more in the future as it grows rapidly :)

9 Like Probably the easiest FPS to play on the planet EVER and its going to be in esports.. Hm. I guess the skill qualifications for these have plummeted next to nothing.
