Capcom envisions 'unique' Resident Evil game for Wii U

Revelations director Koushi Nakanishi says there are "lots of things I'd like to try out" on Nintendo's new console for future entry in series.
Resident Evil 6 skipped a launch for the Wii U, but a future entry in the series could land on Nintendo's upcoming high-definition console. Resident Evil Revelations director Koushi Nakanishi told the Official Nintendo Magazine that the Wii U offers numerous untapped possibilities for the franchise.
"The Wii U certainly looks like it will enable creators to come up with all kinds of never-before-seen gameplay ideas," Nakanishi said. "There are lots of things I'd like to try out on it."
Nakanishi said if a Resident Evil game is made for the Wii U, it should leverage the Wii U's two-screen approach to differentiate itself from what could be done with other hardware.
"The GamePad's separate screen enables so many possibilities, and playing on a television screen would enable sharing the experience in a way that wasn't possible on Nintendo 3DS," he said. "I feel it would let us create a very unique and fun Resident Evil game."
The Wii U is due out in North America on November 18, with releases to follow in Europe and Australia on November 30, and Japan on December 8. The Wii U will be available in North American beginning at $300 for a basic bundle and also through a $350 deluxe edition that includes a copy of NintendoLand.

Hmm...they really want to put up another zombie game when the direct line of comparison will be ZombiU? That game screams awesomeness to me.
They better do a an excellent job or it could further damage the franchise (I could be wrong, but I believe the consensus of opinion is that 6 stunk) Seeing as this was first suggested by the dev team of Rev, and was suggested as maybe another 3DS game, I'm cautiously optomistic
I loved Rev and the older titles...but I think they need to lay in the weeds awhile on this. Wait a year or two and hope ZombiU doesnt have a sequel.
I liked RE Revelations better than RE6 so this could be a positive thing, I just wish they would drop the whole action thing and go back to survival horror.
@SunnySkyNL What about survival horror with action thing? I love the idea of conserving ammo and kick some zombie asses.

3 Like @snaketus @vader501st Yeah because it's not like Nintendo are focusing on hardcore gamers again and doing a good job at getting third party support or anything. That gimmick controller (that looks a hell of a lot like a Vita with a bigger screen or a standard tablet PC with game controls on the side) is soooo gimmicky hur durrr.
It has standard gaming controls just like any other console, has good third party support and has the gimmick as optional for most titles I'd imagine (hence why the pro controller is there). This is like saying the 3DS is a gimmick handheld for having 3D and then being dumb enough to not realise it's getting plenty of harcore games in core genre's and whooping the Vita hard. 3DS will become the standard handheld in no time if Sony can't pull something together and Wii U probably won't manage the same but I don't think there 'gimmick' is really all that gimmicky. Even the vita has touch controls (and the 3DS) so short of allowing the console to have handheld style touch controls (which aren't really gimmicky now that it's been done so much with DS, 3DS, Vita, smart phones, tablet PC's like Ipad etc.). It's a pretty standard feature and one gaming has seen before so it's hardly gimmicky as it's been proven to be successful even if just on handhelds / phones / tablets so far.
2 Like I have more faith in this guy than whoever helmed resident evil 6 since I played both to completion and revelations was a good game yet 6 pretty much sucked (the amount of times it just pulls the same trick like bosses needing to be killed 3 or 4 times and repeated areas etc. was just annoying).
Here's hoping for some good RE like revelations, the gamecube remake or RE0 and not the new stuff like RE6 (even though I liked RE4 and 5).
1 Like @Mariner32 Well considering Resident Evil: Revelations, a 3DS game, is the only good RE game to come out since 4, I can see WiiU having a better chance of getting a good Resident Evil than PS3/4 or Xbox 360/720.
If Wii U sells enough copies, of course it'll get its own Resident Evil game. Maybe they'll even port RE6 to it at some point.

@alrepairs @RE2LeonS where did i bash the wii u? the wii u has made a good start to getting my attention. they seem to be focusing on the hard core with that well going by the games coming for it.

1 Like I'd be torn with this. RE6 (with the exception of Leon's campaign) and RE:ORC where horrible, but Revelations on the 3DS was amazing. If they make something closer in style to that game I'd consider getting it, otherwise I'd probably pass, and just rent it at some point.
@spike6958 i am still enjoying RE 6 now i would not call it a horrible game. if you don't like it fine but i would rather hear people slag games that do actually suck. like all the rehashed shooters like call of duty that are not that much different from the last release and just designed to milk the franchies. at least RE games are not like every 6 months.
@jtthegame316 No, it's a fucking terrible game. The controls and camera are shit, the storyline makes no fucking sense, there is no tension or horror anymore, only Leon's campaign was any good and even that had a lot problems, just because you like a crappy game dosn't mean the rest of us have to. The series has followed the CoD crowd and become a generic crappy action game. Also you say "at least RE games aren't released every 6 months" and yet counting the HD re-releases there have been 6 Resident Evil games release in just these last two years.
@TheSnowmanSaint @spike6958 Ada's campaign was cool. i enjoyed them all to be honest i liked Chris and Leon. but then the Redfields are my favorite RE characters.. As for Leon any thing RE with LEOn in is always cool
@spike6958 i would not count a re-release thats just a chance for people who did not get the game before to have easy access to the game or for anyone to replay it with achievements.. That's not quite the same as making a new update every 6 months like cod. the problem with you haters is you hate on it and expect the whole world to hate on it to. now are you just a hater or are you one of them that thinks its cool to hate on this certain thing so i will follow a crowd and hate on it?

1 Like Resident evil is dead! the way the "plot" has run off into some stupid action series involving multinational corporations, and corrupt governments has killed it off.
For whatever reason the games have focused more on stupid monsters and giant snakes, rather than the zombies people love it for. Its taken the quick/short action scenes of earlier games and stretched them out to encompass the whole narrative, and all but cut off the elements that made it popular like tension and scares and red headed step children.
The very fact that even those that hate the game have positive things to say about leons campaign speaks volume about the type of game RE6 SHOULD have been.
To capcom, I say leave the COD/gears crowd to COD/gears. And let resident even flourish in the direction it should have from the start(ie tension and suspense). If you make a great resident evil game, the COD and gears crowd will come anyway.
Considering the last games, I don't trust this guy's vision at all. I bet the newer game will end looking even more like a Die Hard movie than 6. Oh, and don't get me wrong, I love Die Hard movies, it's just that RE shouldn't be like that.
RE series could learn a thing or two about Telltale's Walking Dead. The feeling of desolation, social chaos and survival on that game are awesome.
I haven't either but it's considered the best Resident Evil this generation since it stays true to the series (not counting the HD rereleases).
If you like action adventure, platformer, RPG, puzzle, strategy, and rhythm games you should definitely look into the 3DS.
3 Like Resident Evil 4 = Oh look the series went from survival horror, to mediocre shooter.
Resident Evil 5 = This is getting closer to a cookie cutter shooter franchise, and the AI partner needs a ton of work done with that.
Resident Evil 6 = Yep a cookie cutter bland shooter franchise that feels like a 3rd person COD.
Resident Evil is no longer a survival horror game in any sense. In the last 3 installments, you had enemies that dropped ammo, and 90% of the objects dropped ammo as well. You never once came close to running out of ammo, or health for that matter. You didn't have to ration to survive, and even if you did die you started almost exactly where you died anyway. I miss the ink ribbons, I miss wondering what was around the next corner, cause If I died here I would have to redo the last 3 or more hours that I have been playing. No you just throw caution to the wind cause hey, if I die here I will start back at that checkpoint 1 minute ago, and get to try again. Time yo go in guns blazing. Having checkpoints, and unlimited saves means that I do not have to worry about what is coming up next, and I don't have to worry about rationing my ammo cause I can just keep retrying till I win. Heck in RE6 the game literally shows you where to go and what to do, so you don't have to worry about that pesky exploring. Puzzles? What are those? Oh There are 3 keys located in this area, so here lets give you a map with big red dots on it, so you don't have to look for them. RE is now COD. It started with 4, and got progressively worse.
1 Like Listen, Resident Evil 4 is not a "mediocre" shooter. It's one of the most influential game of all time. Without it we wouldn't have Gears of War, Uncharted or, well, most of today's AAA games. It may not be a horror game like the previous installements but it pawed the way for modern shooters. That's why I've never think a game as influential as Resident Evil 4 be mediocre.
Besieds, Shinji Mikami did the same trick five years later. Vanquish wasn't a high-seller, but it was far from mediocre. It's the best Third-Person-Shooter I've ever played. And that says something. Why? Because it asks you, the player, to do things differently. It's more fun when you knee-slide towards an enemy, firing at it in slo-mo, then smashing it's metallic head to pieces and pulling a slo-mo backflip and shoot another one before hitting the ground, than firing from cover and slowly moving from point A to point B to win in a firefight. Vanquish's charm is all in gameplay and that's why it's my favourite.
