Done. The game has just been funded by the crowd (over $400.000) and will be developed by Stainless. Expected release date: February 2013.http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stainlessgames/carmageddon-reincarnation/posts
Franchise shop Stainless Games handling development of violent vehicular series' return; pegged for digital delivery debut next year on unnamed platforms.
The Duke Nukem series isn't the only franchise coming back to life after a 10-year-plus slumber. Stainless Games today announced Carmageddon: Reincarnation, the first entry in the vehicular mayhem series since the year 2000.
Stainless Games--the shop that developed the well-reviewed Carmageddon (1997) and Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now (1998)--today announced that it has reacquired the vehicular mayhem brand and is in the early stages of preproduction of the new entry. Slated to debut in 2012, Reincarnation will be digitally distributed through unspecified channels.
The news comes on the heels of last week's teaser site countdown, which pegged a Carmageddon announcement for today.
Unfortunately Stainless Games did not offer much in the way of detail concerning the new offering. However, studio cofounder and executive director Neil Barnden said Reincarnation will bring "laughs, power-ups, and extreme destruction," as well as "the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success.”
Additionally, it appears Stainless Games will not handle the game on its own, as it said it is "actively seeking a partner with whom to move the project on to full production."
The fourth installment in the Carmageddon franchise was first teased in 2003, before being officially announced in 2004 and scheduled for release by April 2005. 2K Games later picked up the North American publishing rights to Carmageddon 4 before it was reportedly canceled.
I remember playing Carmageddon over and over again and even-though I dont think its going to be the GOTY, I was really looking forward to this one... It's just not right to make a game for all the platforms, and the sequel just to some of them...
Dutch gaming site (gamekings.tv) says it'll be released in 2012 for XBox Live Arcade and Playstation network, but not pc. just givin the heads up.
Release date will be February 2013. First for PC, later for XBOX360 and PS3. Maybe other platforms like Mac/Linux and mobile will be added.
The original Carmageddon was amazing, Hell all of the PC Carmageddon games kicked a lot of ass. I will be buying this game!
I remember buying the first game in a bargin bin and the graphics pictured on the back looked so awesome and then I installed it and the graphics looked like crap because I didn't have the specific graphics card that it was designed for even though my graphics card was better than what was needed. Those were the good old days when games for windows were still programmed for dos.
Killing pedestrians, hell yeah, many tv news had crucified this game but it's coming back, i like this.
did this got bannad in 90s mmm yes but i think this should get allformats realse as well pc. pc need some games as well ps3
@dagrimmreepa Yeah, but even when TDR2000 was crap compared to the first games, it was a truckload of fun to make cheat-enabled mayhem and destruction on some of the stages
Why digital release only? I'm fairly certain the demand is out there to warrant a big game Blu-ray release. The original Carmageddon is probably one of the games i've lost the most hours of my life to. Blummin' loved it.
I had hours and hours of fun playing the carmageddon games.. this is great news just hope they can capture the magic again :)
Carmageddon 2 was so much fun. Back in the day we would hook up PC's and just have a blast with the multiplayer. I swear I have never laughed so much with things like the big spring and solid granite. Cant wait to see this game come back!
Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now is my favorite racing/car/vehicular combat video game ever. Twisted Metal, basically started it all. It was a great game but I don't play it anymore. I STILL play Carmageddon 2 to this day.
I use to pound the living crap out of my car with tnt... making it into a ball of scrap metal in CARMA 2 Great game hope it hits pc :)
Before GTA, the way to run people over and splatter them was Carmeggedon. Let's just hope they aren't like THQ and Red Faction Armageddon and leave out (in RFA's case multiplayer) but for this splattering people.
Awsome, i hope their damage model is as awsome as in part 2. I just loved splitting cars in 2 parts....
