Castlevania 3DS delayed

Konami pushes Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate to early 2013 release window, extra time needed "to give fans a handheld title unlike any other."
Konami today confirmed a delay for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. Previously expected to launch this fall, the 3DS debut for the whip-cracking action series has been pushed back to an early 2013 release.
In announcing the delay, producer Dave Cox explained, "It's been two years since the enormous success of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and with this next installment, we want to take the necessary time needed to give fans a handheld title unlike any other."
Stepping back from Dracula's story, Mirror of Fate redirects its focus on the Belmont clan, 25 years after Lords of Shadow's conclusion. Players take on the roles of Trevor and Simon Belmont, as well as Dracula's own son, Alucard. The game will also lead into next year's other Castlevania game, Lords of Shadow 2 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. All three games have Mercury Steam as developer.

That's cool, I can wait. I'm sure the added time will be well worth it. I am looking forward to this one but as I'm not a rabid/mindless consumer I can definitely allow these artists their due time to create a handheld masterpiece.
I wish I could say I had something resembling interest in this game, but the sheer arrogance of Dave Cox and their spitting on the Castlevania canon just makes it impossible for me to care.
I have not played a Castlevania title is years. Might give this one a playthrough when released.
I want to recapture that SoTN magic please..
P.S. I was waiting in line when a kid and his mom were buying a 3DS and game in front of me. He didnt get the game he wanted I guess cause as he was leaving the store he took his hand and knocked like (literally) a hundred boxes off the shelves. The manager said "miss Ill clean it up but please get that kid out of the store" he then ran out crying!!!! Me and this other kid went and picked up all the boxes, we were just like "what a little brat" LMAO
I don't mind. It looks like it will be quite an experience so if longer development times ensures that, I am all for them.
@Mattyrock @00LiteYear That's not 2.5D (I made the same mistake).
2.5D is when you have a 2D field with an x, y, and z axis. In other words, like an arcade brawler where you can move left, right, up, down, and jump. What we have here is 2D with 3D models.
@chipwithdip @Mattyrock That would be just like the Rondo of Blood remake (on PSP). I really hope the gameplay isn't like RoB; Too many deaths from falls, but Maria's double jump always made her more versatile.
@Mattyrock So it'll play okay, but look terrible. Mreh, give me hand drawn sprites, there is no good 3D Castlevania.
so trevor is the hero in this one and he becomes alucard? X.x

@BelmontWolf Uhhhhhh, what? Alucard is the actual literal son of Dracula, his mother gave birth to a son, Dracula's seed. He shows up there at the end of the trailer but it would be to return in the game and make either a full or cameo appearance, possibly another game where you get to play multiple character types so you aren't just whipping everything the whole game. Alucard is still around in Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, so he's obviously alive and just fine during this time period, makes perfect sense for him to show up again, and still be completely awesome.
@lannyboy334 wow you are stupid. for one this is part of the reboot to the whole Castlevania series. Aria of sorrow has nothing to do with this and AOS is set in the near future not a few hundred years ago like sotn. im refering to how in the trailer there are multiple people callind gabriel father when he only had one son who was trevor belmont meaning alucard MUST be trevor UNLESS gabriel had a child with a new wife,
Nintendo wants to make sure Castlevania and Luigi's Mansion 2 are good. All of the Sony's franchises for the Vita sucked.
@franzito They just need to add a real sense of impact to the classic side scrolling games instead of "floating" everywhere. Getting hit and then floating backwards uncontrollably was a little weak. This game seems to have that sense of real physical gameplay akin to a God of War.
@lannyboy334 @franzito Now that is an idea. A God of War side scroller. Actually, the franchise does do side scroll sometimes, but it only happens during special boss fights.
1 Like Nintendo definitely seems to be focusing more on the quality of games, rather then making release dates. Just as well. The last thing I need is to play Luigi's Mansion 2 and chuck it out the next day.
1 Like Don't mind the delay as long as it's not detrimental to the quality of the game. This is the game that has convinced me to finally get a 3DS so I hope it will be worth it. The 3 that were on DS were the reasons I got a DS originally so here's hoping fourth times the charm as those games were great too.
@magnificent7 Yep, bought a DS for DoS. Was not disappointed, the only downside was the lack of classic gritty graphics. The games weapon and soul system, along with REAL boss fights instead of some of the garbage easy mode stuff in late game SotN and AoS was a blast.

I think the art style displayed in cut scenes is gorgeous.
The in-game graphics are debatable -- they seem to have good bones in terms of polygon count and the way in which motion is captured, but the native 3DS resolution looks to be crippling it right now. Hopefully they find a filtering trick or something in the meantime to polish that up and trick our eyes.
@Cappuccin0 Would you really be satisfied with those graphics on a Vita, and if not, would you want to have to wait longer for a bumped up version? Plus, Castlevania is definitely one series where the top screen is of HUGE assistance to gameplay with the map or with displayed info about units. Its always been an understated great quality of the DS that I have always really liked, nothing else besides the DS/3DS provides that.
@Cappuccin0 Why indeed. Castlevania has been more Nintendo than Playstation when it comes to handhelds. Other reasons could be...

@00LiteYear PS3 did poorly at first too. Vita just needs a push and a little trust. I also own a 3DS, but that Nintendo exclusivity kinda bugs me, considering the greatest Vania game shined on a Sony platform.
A shame but if it is indeed to make the game better and not just some marketing strategy, take your time to polish it I say.
Excited for this, I'll admit that I never played a Castlevania game, but I definitely want to pick this one up. Don't mind that it's been delayed, gives me more time to earn money and finish up the current games I'm playing.
@Steba93 I don't know that the old GBA games besides Aria of Sorrow hold up so well. Does anyone agree with me? I have tried to play them and I really just lose interest, whereas a lot of other GBA/GBC games still grab my attention with ease.
@abHS4L88 Download NES and SNES emulators and download Castlevania 1, 3 and 4(not 2, it sucks ass). I think those're the best of them all. And if you have Xbox 360 buy Symphony of the Night from XBLA
Nice looking graphics. Better visuals than Kid Icarus or Kingdom Hearts 3D combine. Hopefully the gameplay, length of playing time and story would be much better than expected if this is going to be "unlike any other".
@The_Great_Purge You're kidding right? KH3D blows this out of the water. And compared to RE: Revelations this looks like a DS game.
@Mister_Zurkon No I'm not. It has a potential to have a better looking graphics (with the delay) than how KH3D or Kid Icarus blows right now.
Well enough of the graphics, gameplay is important otherwise it sucks.
Come on, saying it looks like an N64 game is just being a hater, and I thought you were better than that. Right now it looks better than most Wii games.
I'll save my Castlevania opinions and simply say:
This would be a system-seller for the 3DS, /if/ handled properly...
