InFamous is just a great title. I started 1 week ago and I cannot put it down! It's so fun and addictive.
Prototype tops NPD's monthly non-PC top 20 with nearly 600,000 units, while Ghostbusters just misses the top 10; Sims 3 new PC king, Spore Galactic Adventures opens strong.
Yesterday, the NPD Group released numbers more grim than even the gloomiest of analysts had predicted. In June, US sales of non-PC game software, hardware, and accessories shrank by 31 percent, or $530 million, compared to the same period in 2008. Even though the month saw the worst monthly showing since September 2000, titles like Prototype and UFC 2009: Undisputed tried to rally against the trend, both selling over 330,000 in June.
Today, the industry tracking group offered top-20 lists of best-selling PC and non-PC software in the US. Prototype's Xbox 360 edition topped the non-PC chart with 419,000 units sold, more than double its 13th-place, PlayStation 3 counterpart's 179,200-unit haul. Together, the two versions' total was a robust 598,200 units.
Besides Prototype, the top three is a reshuffle of the previous month, with UFC 2009: Undisputed moving from first to second, and EA Sports Active remaining at third. In fourth was the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (272,400 units), which came bundled with Wii MotionPlus, followed by the Balance Board-bonded Wii Fit (271,600) in fifth. Sixth and seventh place finisher Fight Night Round 4 sold over 460,000 units combined, with Mario Kart Wii (eighth, 202,100 units), the 360 Red Faction: Guerrilla (ninth, 199,400), and the PS3-only Infamous (10th, 192,700) rounding out the top 10.
With NPD discontinuing its weekly PC charts mid-month, its monthly top 20 is now the only nationwide regular report of retail PC game sales. The month's big winner was the already platinum Sims 3, which took the top two slots with its regular and collector's editions. In third was its predecessor in the form of the Sims 2 Double Deluxe, followed by perennial favorites World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (fourth) and World of Warcraft: Battle Chest (fifth).
The bottom half of the top 10 were made up familiar faces. EA's new expansion Spore Galactic Adventures infected sixth place, with the original Spore just two spaces behind. In between was the stand-alone World of Warcraft--still popular nearly five years after its October 2004 release--followed by Sega's Empire: Total War. In 10th place was another Blizzard game with six years seniority on WOW--Starcraft: Battle Chest.
Other new releases making the top 20 included 2K Games' Civilization IV: Complete Edition (13th), Activision's Prototype (18th), and Atari's Ghostbusters: The Video Game.TOP-SELLING SOFTWARE SKUs - JUNE 2009

Unless you have a huge game with a lots of broad appeal I can't figure out why you would do single platform these days... unless of course you had to rely on a specific trait of the hardware. It seems everything that is suppose to be the system seller or something of that nature keeps flopping in the mud. Multiplat it already and let everyone play the good stuff so you can recoop some of your investment.
Glad to see Ghostbusters almost make the top ten. Seriously, if you were born in the eighties and haven't bought this game...you are a sinner.
@Berserkerz Huh?...what you should do is add PS3 Prototype and 360 numbers together and compare to Infamous...that's how many copies of each were sold...and why the Activision made a LOT more money of a very similar game.
the xbots all got prototype, the ps3 people had a choice between prototype AND infamous. So basically, you should add up the PS3 infamous and prototype numbers. It's not THAT far behind :)
Go Blizzard! They are still selling ancient games of great quality. I have both the Starcraft and Diablo Battlechest and they are a great deal.
how come they don't show any PC numbers? I'm impressed at how much UFC is kicking FNr4 in sales. Maybe it's because FNr4 only had 6 days of the month. But I'm glad both are selling well, I got both, even though I'm yet to really get deep into them; SF4 has been in heavy rotation.
I played Prototype the game is fun and a great value. Congrats to Blizzard for dominating the PC charts and also I cannot wait for Starcraft 2.
I really liked InFamous too, it was a great ride... and I don't think I've ever played any games three times in a row.... Not since Mario Brothers. I've finally moved over to Prototype for PS3 and loving it too. And I freakin love my PS3.
yeah i played the demo for infamous its so sweet...i couldnt get it tho cuz i been saving money for killzone2 :D..next game is infamous tho
Like always, Sims and WoW are in the top 10 and top 5 list of PC. To bad, and I was hoping for dawn of discovery(anno 1404) to be in the list.
Every time I see the BattleChests in a store... I wonder when the price is going to drop on them. It's quite apparent that they won't be. Kudos to Blizzard.
glad to see Infamous selling as its an exclusive with no co-op or multiplayer. Also Empire: Total War is doing great from coming out in March
So much 4 PS3 exclusive Infamous, lol - not even PS3 owners support....I get 360 people didn't miss much...lol - Thanks Prototype -
I find it hard to believe that none of the versions of overlord 2 made it into the top 20 i mean they amount of advertising for that game was a lot i guess Codemasters is gonna go out of business soon if overlord 2 sold that poorly dint the first one sell like a million?
It's the usual suspects: The Sims(& Spore) and Blizzard. I am holding out hope for a good 3rd and 4th quarter of games.
Considering the mess that was Sim City Societies I'm surprised that Sim City Box is still in the top 15. I hope, however, that with it and maybe Dawn of Discovery and the upcoming Cities XL that maybe a market for city building games will be recognized and catered to again.
Prototype is the only console game I have purchased in some time. I think it would work just as well if not better on the PC but that is just my opinion. There is not one game listed in the NPD top 20 for consoles that I really care about. Looking at the PC list, I already own 7 of the games listed. I guess I am not really a console person.
Wow, I didn't think game sales were that bad, although Prototype did sell quite a few units. I predicted better sales with games like Prototype, Infamous, and The Sims on the chart.
Well I got Prototype for a trade 2 get 1 free deal....cost me $20 and let me tell you this game is a TURD. It is uninspired and irrelevat. It isn't even worth the $20....very very sad. GO GHOSTBUSTERS
