Codemasters announces new studio
New development facility in Surrey opens its doors with Adrian Bolton at the helm.
UK publisher and developer Codemasters has opened a new studio in Guildford, Surrey, bringing its total number of studios to three. The new studio, imaginitively named Codemasters Studios Guildford, will be headed up by Adrian Bolton, previously development director for Electronic Arts Criterion, which is known principally for the Burnout series.
Codemasters Studios Guildford is currently recruiting "with an emphasis on programming" and is aiming for a total of 35 staff this year, with more hires predicted in the future.
The company's headquarters is in Southam, Warwickshire, and it also has the art-focused Codemasters Studios Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Games developed by Codemasters include DiRT, Brian Lara International Cricket 2007, and TOCA Race Driver 3.
The new studio will first be collaborating with the other two offices on projects including Race Driver One and Operation Flashpoint 2, and expand to start developing its own intellectual properties from 2008.
