THQ's latest action game ships with retailer-exclusive preorder bonuses from GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon.
With THQ doubling down on the core gaming market, Darksiders is now one of its most important franchises. Does that translate to good news for fans of the series? They'll find out on June 26, as THQ today said Darksiders II will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on that date.
In addition to dating Darksiders II, THQ announced a range of retailer-specific preorder incentives. GameStop is getting the Death Rides pack, which includes multiple side quests set in the Maker's Realm and Dead Plains areas.
At Best Buy, gamers will get the Angel of Death pack, which features angelic armor and complementary scythes. This pack also includes a purple-colored visual trail for a player's companion crow. Lastly, Amazon preorderers will pick up the Deadly Despair pack, which offers a speed boost for Death's horse, Despair.
Darksiders II follows the horseman Death instead of the original game's protagonist, War, and it tells a parallel story to the original rather than continuing on from that title's conclusion. In the game, Death will attempt to clear War's "good" name (he's accused of starting the end of times ahead of time) and save humankind in the process.
Darksiders II has also been announced for the Wii U. THQ expects to launch this version of the game alongside the system. Nintendo has not yet announced when the Wii U will be available. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
@ m6x_p0w3r Not all of us had step-daddy's to teach us about "not crying", which also explains why you know so much about w**res. This board would be so much better without "douches".
I think Darksiders is their ONLY good franchise, let alone an important one. They haven't had a great, new franchise in forever. Hopefully this series will stop THQ from circling the drain. There's only so long you can post huge losses until everything falls apart.
ok so Amazon gets a faster horse, and best buy gets amor and a purple line to follow .... by far the best pack is the one Gamestop has so why are the " completionists" crying? honestly you people have nothing to whine about 9times out of 10 the pc games get it the dlc for free.... xbox360 normally pays between 5-10 bucks for GOOD dlc and ps3 users normally get shafted so with that said nomatter what system you play on and whether your a self proclaimed " completionist" you shouldnt be crying you should be glad they are making a sequel to a good game. and lets be honest another name for "completionist" is achievement w**re
@ SuprSaiyanRockr @ theKSMM I hear you lound-and-clear and agree complete. I absolutely hate preorder bonuses from multiple stores. To this day, I still have not played the last Transformers: War for Cybertron game because of that. I'm a completionist, and it puts a serious dent in the enjoyment for me. I've been looking forward to this game for such a long time, but those bonuses actually hinder my desire to buy it right away. I feel like I need to wait for a "Complete Edition" now.
WOW!!!!! Thats great news, cause part wasn't supposed to come out til the end of the year, I guess THQ is pushing all efforts into this game to help outTHQ itself.
Darksiders II will either make or break THQ... and yeah, it IS one of their most important franchises :D no surprises there
Retailer specific preorder incentives need to die in a fire. I can understand preorder incentives as a whole, but this seems to keep anyone from experiencing all the content for the game rather than incentivizing people to preorder. Still, I really liked Darksiders 1, so I'm looking forward to this. I hope it sells well, THQ seems to be in trouble right now but they produce a lot of great games.
Pre-order exclusives are bad enough, but retailer specific exclusives are the worst. No matter whom I order from, I'll never have all the content available for the game. How does that not stink for the most die-hard fans?
Definitely a day-one buy for me as well. Darksiders wasn't perfect, but it had a lot of great ideas, and it was tremendously entertaining to play.
Damnit, we don't even have Best Buy in Australia. I reeeeally hate retailer exlusive preorders. Isn't it enough that we bought the damn game?
I didn't know it was coming out this early in the year. I saw it listed as a late 2012 release. I will have to get this. I loved the first one.
really looking forward to this, and i was planning on pre-ordering but i won't if it comes with 'bonuses' here too because they do my head in. a speed boost for your horse? lets hope you get it less than half way through eh..
I liked the original Darksiders, though nothing "new" was added to the genre. I must admit I really enjoyed my time with it. The characters were very cool and the Angels were very awesome (their armors, weapons and mounts - all very cool). The only disappointment I had was that it took so long for you to find Ruin and you barely needed to use him. I look forward to this one.
Awesome!!! Can't wait for all those awesome games coming out this year! This will be an amazing experience!
Loved the first one. Hope the second one has more PC features this time around and not just a direct port :)
