THQ aims for a "largely untapped" audience on Nintendo's console with arachnid action game.
Activision has the exclusive license to create Spider-Man games, but it has no such monopoly on the webbed wonder's set of powers. THQ today announced Deadly Creatures for the Wii, which is going to let gamers experience the proportional strength and speed of a spider, primarily because they will play as a spider.
Developed by Rainbow Studios, the outfit behind MX vs. ATV and Pixar's Cars series of games, Deadly Creatures casts players into the unsettlingly numerous shoes of a scorpion and a tarantula as they take on cross-phylum adversaries, including Gila monsters, wasps, black widows, and even humans. In a statement announcing the game, THQ director of global brand management Randy Shoemaker indirectly addressed a number of complaints that have been levied against Nintendo's console.
"With Deadly Creatures, we are raising the bar for all third-party Wii titles," Shoemaker said, "and focusing on deep, compelling gameplay for a largely untapped audience of Wii gamers."
THQ has promised that the game's combo-based, motion-controlled combat system will yield "brutal" action when it sees release later this year. Deadly Creatures has not yet been rated, nor has the publisher indicated what rating it is targeting.
this sounded great until he mentinoned to M-word. Motion Control! I'm kinda tired of motion combat.X(
its different i can tell you that, be interesting to see how the interaction will work with controllers
The concept sounds very interesting and I have cash to buy GOOD Wii games. Hope they makes a winner as I have returned crapware before.
yep raising the bar and what do we get?? Some half done port. And then they complain it did not sell. Then they start blaming other third party devs. Then they start blaming 360 and PS3 for having to much expensive tech.
What? Your name is VenomRitual and you don't let spiders bite you. Perhaps you prefer venom from snakes. How is Gamespot dumb? This is a comment board for a game where you're a spider that bites stuff. When I get bit by the right spider I'll have incredible powers like 8 legs to play 4-player on the Wii by myself. How awesome will that be?
gamepot is dumb. a guy says he lets spiders bite him and i say its gross. get over it gamespot. go write another GREAT review for a publisher who buys ad space
The other night, my friends and I were debating about the afterlife, and if reincarnation is true, what animal or being would we like to return as. I said a tick, because who has it easier then a blood-sucking parasite. In the game I will get to play as a Spider. They are an arachnid too. Close enough I suppose and I don't have to die to experience it. How novel.
It's just good to see somebody at least thinking about offering traditional (e.g. "hardcore") gaming experiences on the Wii. It's not all about party games, y'know.
This sounds creative haha. Very creative. Quote from :cayne_phoenix sounds like a rip-off of the name from Nightmare Creatures, but playing as something entirely else... Um yeah, well you could say that about every other game in the world, that it's a copy of each other because you are pressing buttons and issuing commands. come on.
sounds like a rip-off of the name from Nightmare Creatures, but playing as something entirely else...
lol this sounds... interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing a trailer. it reminds me a little of the old Buck Bumble on the 64, even if that was a bee... really cool idea especially for a non-ported wii game. I'll be keeping an eye out for this one..
i hope raising the bar means doing a high 8 or even 9 games, not just a game better than the previous seen. And the description seems interesting, could be a great action game like V.Joe or NinjaGaiden ,or just another lame botton masher. Atleast its done for the wii, that means its not simply a port but will use wii unique capacity. The potential is there, now lets wait for the result.
VERTIGO 47: fair enough. my post was a little serious. im just getting tired of people saying that others that dont play games every day (or specific games) are not gamers. that is all...
Well said Gilbe! +1 I'm pretty much against the use of terms "hardcore" and "casual" to describe the hobby. We all just enjoy what we enjoy. If THQ delivers the goods and creates a compelling spider game, then it's going to be a very unique and interesting experience. Nobody can argue with that. And Jobot - Hilarious. That post made me laugh out loud.
@gamecubepad You let spiders bite you? Well, whatever spins your web. I have to admit that this particular game sounds extremely interesting. Spiders live pretty exotic lives, especially the ones that don't just hang out on the interwebz -_- sorry. But since this IS a platformer, crawling all over the place and attacking enemies as either a scorpion or a spider ought to be pretty intense.
I love Spiders. I let them bite me all the time. This game sounds cool. I like to play as bugs. Hopefully it will use the Wiimote in a cool and brutal fashion.
This is hilarious - this game sounds a lot like the fake video game in the drug intervention advertisement that's running in all the video game magazines!
i'll wait to see trailers of what this is gonna actually look like first... wether its realistic or cartoony ? like.... wind waker cartoony?
