Let's get the logistics out of the way. The Alien Versus Predator 2 Demo includes one Marine mission, one Alien mission and one Predator mission. There are customizable features and the ability to play with a joystick, but this is an old school FPS so a keyboard and mouse is a must. If you do die...
Too Anybody interested in playing this Aliens Vs Predator 2 Demo on the Mac.... This plays no probs under XP Parallels running within OSX 10.5.8 - no glitches, no need to bother with Boot Camp....
OMG!!!!! I used to play this game all of the time. I forgot about it and now am playing it all over again. Thanks for reminding us that there are still good classics out there. Well it is kind of a classic now haha
Played the demo, liked it. Bought the game on ebay for ten bucks, liked it too. I enjoyed the alien missions simply because they were way different than anything I had played up until then (it did take some getting used to though). The 3 different visual styles for the 3 races were cool too. It really did play like 3 different games, instead of just switching weapons or sides. I'm all for hearing about good demos I may have missed over the years, since I am forced to focus on other things besides games at times (inhumane, to say the least, I know). You might want to mention the vintage up front in your logistics blurb though , so folks aren't disappointed when they click the link. You did say "old school fps," but that can be said about new games too. Also, some people need to understand that this is a blog, not a full-blown Gamespot feature or something. Here is a fellow gamer (that happens to know how to write correctly) taking the time to share things we might find worthwhile, so bear that in mind.
This game is still to this day my favourite FPS of all time. A great single player campaign, and a brilliant multiplayer. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for AvP3, but it doesn't look like anything will ever happen on that front. Too bad.
This was an awesome game and really hope they make a new game for our current generation consoles and PC. The Multiplayer would be awesome!!!
This is a preview of the demo itself. It's so that users can download a cool high replay demo for free that they might have forgotten about. I'll feature new and old stuff to spotlight the great content we already have on GameSpot.
This game came out in 01, is this some sort of classics review or just people at gamespot run out of game downloads to review?
Hmmm, is this download feature devoted to classic downloads then? Because this game is really, really old.
ahhh good ol' AVP 2. I have missed you. Seriously, this was a great improvement over the original and i seriously wish Monolith would update this with the FEAR 2 engine cuz that would be sweet. let's hope the ALIENS fps is half as good as this.
Let's get the logistics out of the way. The Alien Versus Predator 2 Demo includes one Marine mission, one Alien mission and one Predator mission. There are customizable features and the ability to play with a joystick, but this is an old school FPS so a keyboard and mouse is a must. If you do die within each mission you must start at the beginning again, so there is a bit of trial and error with this demo. Now that we have that out of the way, I enjoyed the Marine and Predator missions the most, because of their replay value. In the Marine mission you start off at an abandoned base looking for any known survivors. You're given five powerful weapons that you'll want to take advantage of in each part of the level. My favorite gun is the shotgun, and although it had a slow firing rate the weapon has a nice instant kill feature. Now beware the dark lighting as it keeps you on your toes while Aliens lurk everywhere. The sounds of scratching and Alien chatter keep you constantly looking behind your back. Next we have the Predator mission. You're given a nice set of weapons, one of which is the Spear Gun. What makes this weapon so fun to is the ability to zoom in with your Predator vision and cut off heads sending them flying off into the air. The Predator mission is a bit more fun, because of the array of gadgets, visions, and weapons the Predator has at its disposal. The cloaking device makes your practically invisible giving you the upper hand during battle. But beware there are laser guided machine guns that can detect you no matter what. Finally, the Alien mission is the black sheep of the three. There's not much to do and you don't have any weapons. All you really have is a slash and pounce attack that gets old quickly. There is a slight bonus if you're able to match the Alien cross hairs with a Marine Soldiers body as your extendable teeth will shoot out and chop of his head. Other than that I got stuck mid way through the level with no light and no direction to follow. Despite the Alien mission, the AVP 2 Demo has a high replay value that will keep you entertained for hours. You can download AVP 2 Demo here and you can download any patch, demo, mod, map etc at the Gamespot Downloads Page. Till next time, download, download, download.-MarcoAM
