EA basketball sim benched for 2011

the problem is EA does not want competition in any genre, that why in sports they pretty much have soccer, NFL, and hockey locked up. They never seemed to care how their basketball games played after like 1997, which gave way to 2k in 2000. At least they realized their mistake in puttingout a sub par product. I love 2k, but welcome any type of innovation in basketball. Not too sure EA will make it though....

@awheaten As bad as I hate EA, they do need to comeback w/ a new installment in the series for 2k's sake. Competition breads quality. We don't want 2k falling off. @DenverNick NBA Live 2010 was released on Oct 6, 2009. I think you are the one who is confused. The reason EA and 2K Sports title it for the next year is because the the season ends in that year. Jeremiah06 Whatever dude. I'm not going to argue with you anymore about this. Arguments over the net are pointless, and they're just annoying to everybody else who isn't involved. For that reason I won't be responding to any more of these comments, since we'd just go on forever and it would be a waste of time. Also, what's with all the ellipses? They haven't made a basketball simulation since 2009... So... I'm telling you you'd have that information if you read this article... It's news(that a new game is coming next year) because they've been on a 2 year hiatus...

@daking475 I don't where you're from, but for saying that hockey is only good for highlight you must be either very weak or retarded! Hockey is one of the best sport in the world! I play basketball, soccer, football and hockey, and I can say hockey is a damn fun crazy violent sport! I've seen a lot of arrogant players being hit in the face and in the process having a broken nose! Belive me they never trash talk after that fight, having a broken nose to remind them what happen when you open to much your mouth!

call me crazy but i preferred LIVE over 2k and as a long time CAVS fan i can never buy anything JORDAN, maybe next year i'ii try the 2k series again

@DenverNick Yeah, I will get to the gym and work on my shot when the denver dingle-nuggets win a title. Just another 2K jockstrap hanger I see. The problems I listed with the game are legit and haven't been addressed this entire generation. Online play BLOWS, and the ridiculous amount of shots missed at the rim have been documented by just about EVERY review written about their game. Do your homework clown. I own and like 2K11, but it still has it's problems. MAN UP and acknowledge them. It isn't perfect. As sports games go, MLB The Show is by far the best sports title on the market. But, even that game has it's problems. All of you 2K fanboy's need to find a hobby, and stop trolling for Live articles to bash.

@jeremiah06 Uh, what are you talking about they did not make a 2010 version, it's call NBA Live 2010, you may remember it, it is the one with Dwight Howard on the cover. Not sure why you would want to come on here and talk trash to someone when you yourself don't even know what you are talking about.... And don't give me this, 'it was released in 2009' crap, it was released at the end of the year and is the 2010 version of the game. I know that it can get confusing.

things happen, it does not if is arcade or sim, i think sim is too much to handle some times when 2k is "serious", when madden "cause 2k to 'die'..", please. who knows. stops this beef, it is just like the whole activision/call of duty mess because they (activision) blame EA for that, biz wars makes biz news even in video games!

I don't play sports games in the first place, but they're skipping two years in a row? Also, imagine if they had competition in the NFL market, they'd get dominated by 2K.

IMO - They cancled it because the last NBA Live games got below average/average reviews (06 was 6.6 of 48 reviews, 07 was 6.1 from 32 reviews, 08 was 7.3 from 38 reviews, 09 was 7.7 from 27 reviews, 10 was 8.1 from 34 reviews) and all games featured their own batch of problems. It was a wise move to cancel '11 because it would no doubt have gotten similar reviews to the previous games. I aplaude EA sports for making such a move and I do hope that with all the work they put into it that they will come out with a great game for '12.

You gotta give EA credit for making a decision like this that will no doubt garner huge criticism, in order to put the necessary time and effort into developing a solid game. Hopefully it pays off.

Who else thinks EA should dead the NBA Live franchise. They have Madden NFL and countless other games that bring in profits. Why tarnish your name with unneeded garbage.

EA has blown up this franchise, and I think it might be too late for them to recover. Why EA, WHY after the success of Live 10, did you think that COMPLETELY revamping the series a good idea? That was one of the dumbest moves I have ever seen. I personally felt Live 10 had finally made some headway on the 2K series, and you monkeys blew it up with that travesty 'elite'. And, not so fast 2K apologists. 2K is not without it's MAJOR problems. WAY too many missed layups, dunks, and shots at the rim, Online play is some of the worst in sports. So let's ease up on the Live series for once.

Somebody mentioned NBA Street, and maybe that non-sim artistic style is a direction EA should go. For example, I would buy another iteration of Mutant League Football. Slightly different than what I am talking about with the "Street" franchise (or than Madden), but maybe we need "different"

After 2k11 I don't think any medicore crap from EA will matter anymore. Normally I hate Basketball sims but 2k11 was outstanding.

Good. It will give them more time to plan out their overall strategy for basketball going forward. I applaud EA for this. I hope they can shell out a better game next year. If not, then you can kiss the NBA franchise goodbye.

Since the dreamcast days, the NBA 2K series has been better than any bball game from EA. Hell, I still pop in NBA 2k1 from time to time.

Guess I will wait to On Fire Edition to pick up Jam. Haven't played a basketball game in a LONG time and just picked up NBA 2K11, it is a really good bball game.

EA made a one is 2009 but skipped 2010 and is skipping 2011 also... Which is what the article says... Something you'd know if you took the time to read it in lieu of just commenting blindly...

nba 2k11 is awesome, but without a competitor this year 2k may get lazy....i kind of wished EA had announced the game for this fall then delayed till next year at the last second again so that 2k would think it had to compete either way unless 2k12 blows me away ill stick with 2k11 until 2k13(or later...i went from 2k7 directly to 2k11)

This would be happening to Madden as well if they didnt have that exclusivity deal. If a dam shame if you ask me. 2K was really on to something great with NFL 2k5 and if it had been allowed to flourish we would be getting what would probably be the greatest sports series ever.

wasnt elite due out late last year, shelved to this year? so it's shelved again? If anything Basketball fans will only have one traditional NBA game to pick up on sleves and they may never go back... All the best either way to the studio working on it.

@cornerback I'd have to agree with you on that, someone is going to have to step up to the plate to keep the 2k series honest.

People forget that EA was always more of an arcade style game compared to 2K, though when EA used to make great games, there was always tons to like about both titles. I used to love EA as much as 2K, though I will always prefer 2K for sim sports. Also, I think this delay is in anticipation of the NBA possibly having a lockout. People don't realize that Fall 2012 means they would be releasing NBA Elite 13 (Or whatever they will name it.) That is not talking about a game this fall you guys.

Just give us more NBA Street.

People seem to want basketball sims to be left to 2K. While the 2K's ones are better, it is never good to have a company have a monopoly one one type of game like that. Look at Madden for example. It has hardly been improved because there is no competition to it. If there was no competition to 2K Basketball games, unimproved releases would result.

They use the term Sim very loosely.

@downloadthefile, what are you talking about? they had tons of new madden ideas, they just all were terrible, big difference. then again saying they were amazing in 2004 lets us all in on the little joke you just told, kudos.
