Oh, NFS World, how you amuse me.
I actually played this game for 3 months. Never paid a dime. It was good fun; I wasn't used to racing against real people and it was a refreshing experience for me. The only thing I had to do was accept a lot of things I didn't like, and focus on the things I did like. I'm serious when I say that if I try to outline, in a broad sense, everything this game needs to do better, I would run out of text space. Because I TRIED to do just that.
I liked this game. I liked the fact that if I drove well and cleanly, I could beat all those people who paid real money for their statistically better cars. Excluding hackers of course. The part that really drags it all down is the absolute crapton of (not-so-micro)transactions. They even spam the chat with the latest one(s).
And now they release a $100 car for a game already bothered by so many issues, and the devoted will pay up once again. Good job, EA.
Koenigsegg CCX "Elite" Edition added to free-to-play racer; available for a limited time at a 25% discount.
At last count, EA's free-to-play racer Need for Speed World had garnered more than 5 million users. The publisher is hoping some of those users have deep pockets because the latest premium car for the online racer does not come cheap.
EA today announced that the Koenigsegg CCX "Elite" Edition, the first "premium elite" car to hit Need for Speed World, is now available in the in-game store for $100. For those who feel that's a bit pricey, it is currently on sale for $75 through December 21.
Codeveloped by EA Black Box and EA Singapore, Need for Speed World launched last July. The game sports over 100 miles of in-game road to traverse, including NFS: Most Wanted's Rockport locale and NFS: Carbon's Palmont city streets, as well as a full day/night cycle.
Need for Speed World is part of EA's Play4Free label, saddled up next to other games stemming from popular EA franchises like Battlefield, Dragon Age, and the recently announced Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances.
Oh, NFS World, how you amuse me.
If you're a gamer and you're bothered by this, you're failing to see the bigger picture. This kind of stuff is just PERFECT. It effectively makes rich people pay for the others' gaming hours. Yeah, *this* game in particular may be mediocre, but the general principle is great. I hope EA makes lots of money on that overpriced car so the game can still be free.
@megakick I would like to know how many cars have been bought since this article. *********************************************************** Me too. EA must have been smoking crack when they thought this one up. Only rich fools will buy this. ========================================= jakesnakeel Limbo exclusive on xbox? No *************************************************** It was exclusives for like a year on XBox 360. No different then Joe Danger that was exclusive on the PSN for about a year. Only difference is XBL gets the Joe Danger SE version with added content. I don't know if Limbo got any extra content for the PSN version. Many of these arcade type exclusive games won't stay exclusive for long.
So you can buy a real racing game with all the cars for bout 50 bucks or less or buy a car for a free to play game which is definitely not as good as the retail games for a hundred. Wonder what dumbasses are really buying stuff like that..
$100 for one car is beyond comprehension. What is EA thinking? At least when Valve put out a $100 hat on TF2, 100% of the proceeds went to the Tsunami victims. This is just plain greedy.
If you don't like it don't buy it. I personally feel MMOs like WOW and SWTOR are ridiculous because you shouldn't charge $60 to $150 for a game and then charge $15 a month on top of that to play a game. There are hundreds of great titles for the PS3 and Xbo360 that can be bought for $15 or less and that is a one time charge not a monthly fee. People that have been playing WOW since it came out seven years ago paid $50 for the game when it first came out $40 a piece for 3 expansion packs probably another $50 for vanity pets and mounts and 84 montly installments of $15 for a grand total of $1480. Now that is absolutely ridiculous and why Activision/Blizzard with this and there insane milking of the COD of duty franchise is the most evil company out there not EA. I'd bet over 90% of there revenue is from these two vastly overrated franchises with almost everything else they make being complete garbage. Actually WOW is complete garbage in my opinion as well because Blizzard sold their soul the the devil (Kotick) a long time ago.
@Masterous, it's the principle of the thing, WoW players and Star Wars players are just so into their games that they'll shell out whatever amount to get the latest item but at least they can buy more with 100 dollars to get several items as opposed to one. This car is just excessively priced, even for a virtual game, I don't see too many people buying into it unless they're so into it that they just have to have it, keep in mind that a vast majority of free-to-play gamers will just be happy with what they have and not spend 100 dollars for something they don't need.
They say a sucker is born every minute, wonder how many suckers will buy into this, all for a virtual car?
People have spent a lot more on MMOs or in the TF2 shop. The point really is, why should you care how others spend their money? Where's the uproar for women spending 500+ dollars on a ring?
Wow. That's low. For a company like EA, its very low.. Mean.. You cheap morons!!! Is this the best way now to drain customers' money?! Grow some balls, idiots. and find a better way! Get enrolled in some of the "How to make customers pay you the amount of money you desire!!" course!!!
this car isn't much better then best of the t3 car that you can get with? in game money and I own it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu2p6rdXEak Video of a idiot that actually bought it.
This has seriously gone too far. Anyone (i don't care if you have money to burn) who actually pays for this is an absolute moron. Period.
the thing is why buy all this expensive stuff knowing people are gonna stop playing it or gonna last that long
With $100 I can buy NFS: Underground 1 +2, Most Wanted, Carbon, Undercover, Shift 1 + 2 and a cream cheese bagel.
Hackers should focus on disabling buy buttons for certain things so the dumb people of the world that encourage these companies to do this don't buy these outrageous things
Really shocking explotation by EA as there will be some players out there who will feel the need to buy it.
The saddest thing is there will be people who actually buy this and support EA to continue pushing the boundaries.
I'm glad it's high priced. That way everyone can't just have it online except a true game freak or someone with nothing better to spend their money on. In real life you will almost never see this car, so why should you be playing with it losing races, crashing, and giving it a bad name on the game? Yeah I know it's a game, but I don't care. My dad has this car! :-D
I'm not even upset with EA, because I expect them to try, but I hate anybody who actually buys this, and gives developers/publishers a reason to move forward with more DLC like this.
Seriously, what is happening to EA? Their new games are no longer available on Steam, where many PC gamers collect/house their database of games. Now this outrages rip!!!!!off!!!!. I wish them good health & luck in 2012 and years to come. Sayonara EA.
NFS World description by JoVeociraptor: -Play4free -Pay2win -Incredible ridiculous high priced cars -The game just sucks, in which 95% of users are ones who heard of a free NFS game, signed in and saw the crap it was and aren't active. -The 5% left...I feel sorry for you:( -Now this 100$ car is the cherry...seriously...I hope the one's that bought it have a f***ing hearth attack *rage* (I'm kidding of course, but you could spend that money on MUCH better stuff, including other NFS game o_O)
This just in: EA executives smoke crack. ...which explains the high cost; they need drug money! :P
wow lol... does the car do anything special? like you are paying $100 for a car that has no competition? whats the point of that? i never liked need for speed except for ps1
People want the permanent car in the game! The real car , u need to buy from the car dealer!!!!!! Car concept/topics , track ycdeo . Thanks! The red futuristic Lexus / Saab aero x . Games do bring sales to car brands, hence just helping each other. Send every free real car to my home!
I first thought it was a misprint concerning the real price of the car, because no car and especially not Koenigsegg are that cheap. Damn, EA just has to compete with Activision on every field, including overpriced DLC.
