EA's Origin platform powering Wii U online?

if wii U comes with this services (steam or origin), then I will believe what patcher (lol) says.. that is going to be the end of nintendo!! I will not buy a virus in my living room! Origin is proved with dozen of articles and videos, that they steal all kind of information from your hard disk. Imagine what will happen in the console market, with credit cards and phone calls!

As awful as Origin is, it's better than friend codes. Having said that, I imagine it's more likely Steam is the one to be incorperated, as Valve is much friendlier to other parties than the likes of EA. I can buy games from Activision, EA, THQ, SEGA, 2K, and dozens of other companies on Steam. Can't say the same for Origin. If Origin does become Nintendo's service, I feel like other comapnies won't get a crack at the WiiU because EA doesn't want to support their rivals (Looking at you, Activision).

Looking at some of you all's comments just make me see that no matter what Nintendo does, some of you will be upset. :lol:

6 million gamers have not signed up for Origin like the article claims, 6 million gamers were Forced to sign up in order to play games published by EA, there is a difference lol.

Has anyone given feedback on Origin to maybe improve it? just saying.. Here's to company's heeding customer's responses I too only have it because of ME, DAO, & Battlefield....

Nintendo outsourcing their online platform? I'd say it's preposterous, except that Nintendo has not really gained much ground in that field over their last few systems.

I'd rather have steam than Origin or whatever nintendo would cook up.

please not origin! only reason origin has so many users - including myself - is cause ure forced to have it cause of some games - not cause we want it steam is way better in that case

I think Nintendo doesn't have the infrastructure to do the online capabilities similar to what Microsoft and Sony has. It seems they felt it was more cost efficient to just use what is already there.

A lot of you who are asking for 'no friend code' are confused as to who Nintendo's base customer is...kids. The reason for the friend code is so that their customer's don't land in strange lobbies listening to older gamers or other 14 year olds who just spout the N word every 10 seconds. While I would love it if Nintendo games could be more online friendly - it doesn't make sense to their core audience. I'm guessing most people speaking in this forum aren't under the age of 18 so while it's nice to get the M rated group's opinion - it's not the main focus of Nintendo's buisness strategy to cater to. Personally, I like that Nintendo is considered a kid's system - after all, isn't that when we fell in love with gaming? Let the kids have their system. The Wii is a big hit because of this demographic - if they try to play catch up with the hard core gamer with their next system, they will fail.

Well, Ea's online network capabilities, will truly be tested when ToR is released. As of right now, i'm tired of getting Dc issues, it always seems like us gamers are playing on second hand servers and Ea doesn't care to upgrade there server infrastructure.. If this is true, i hope they reconsider or put it off until the see how Ea handles ToR release, because it makes no sense you come with an online service and its down in peak hours. Must says Xbox live handles the traffic thing well..

Origin's better than Nintendo's online but I would pick another company

I simply cant believe a company with so much imagination and financial clout would even consider using a 3rd party 'online' platform, especially when said platform happens to be owned by EA.

Say what you will about Origin but it's a huge improvement over Nintendo's current online offerings.

Whether they go with EA or not, it's bound to be better than the Wii's current online...

I personally have zero interest in either service. I don't like EA, but I'm not jumping on the Valve bandwagon either. My ideal choice, would be to offer both, merely as services, not as the foundation of the online systems infrastructure. Neither one should be tied that deeply into the system.

Nintendo needs to do their on network service for the Wii U. MS and Sony does their own. Nintendo can do the same. If they let EA do it, they will be making the biggest mistake of their life before the system comes out. Most other developers are not going to want deal with EA because they are big time rivals (like Activision).

I mainly buy Nintendo systems for first party titles (Mario, DK, Zelda, Metroid, etc.), but if this system can support the same games that the PS4 and 720 will be able to, then I'll see about buying the third party games.

WOW. If Nintendo does this, I will disown them faster than rabbid Pomeranian with typhoid. Origin is a HORRIBLE service.

I'm pretty agnostic when it comes to what platform to play on (I own a 360, PS3, and a massive gaming PC) as each platform has it's strength. However, if Nintendo does go with Origin, I will have bought my last Nintendo product. Origin is a poorly thought out excuse for EA to further rip off their customers with shoddy support, heavy DRM, and a really terrible sluggish interface. Go with Steam. It's a much better engine, and much more user friendly...and better yet, not associated with EA and their draconian money grubbing techniques.

Yawn...How many nails does Nintendo need for that coffin?.....I agree with @DS_fan_atic Nintendo should take control of there own online function....but among other things needed for the system...NEW CONTROLLERS and IMPROVED GRAPHICS!!!

I don't think using EA Origin is a good idea. IMO this would be very profitable for EA and may hurt or have other publishers look else where.

Wouldn't mind. Origin is a bit sketchy on PC but it wouldn't make a difference on consoles. That said, I'd rather have Steam. I trust them.

if nintendo is going to do it, they need to go all out. NO friend codes, have more games aimed at online-multiplayer, and fewer games aimed at little kids. we will see..... you can't have both nintendo. Either you're a kid platform, OR you are online.

Is it just me, or should Nintendo be taking ownership of its own online platform? Create an online environment that is easy to use (no friend codes for the love of god) with lots of content to purchase/add-ons to current games. Microsoft and Sony have been doing this for years, learn from their mistakes and make the best online network yet.

Nintendo needs to pick one or the other. It could frustrate users to have multiple accounts for different online services on a single console (e.g. Nintendo ID, Origin Account, Steam Account). I like that Steam is well-rounded, has been out and well supported for years, and is positively critiqued by reviews and gamer's alike. Origins I am not as familiar with. I've got an account, but only because I play Scrabble on my iPhone. Origin on Wii U would be extremely beneficial to EA in that they could extend what they do by attaching the title "Service Provider" to their name. The popularity of Nintendo consoles would have a strong impact on the EA brand if Origins was chosen. I don't care what they use as long as it can stand ground with Sony and Microsoft over the next 5-10 years.

I'd say Nintendo should go with Steam. Steam doesn't use online passes or anything like that on console games, if I remember correctly. Plus maybe it will lead to Valve getting a chance at developing Star Fox Wii U.

Excellent if this is true. Nintendo is smart enough to know that they are unable to run an on-line gaming network. So to team-up with EA, Value/Steam or another. The Wii U will stand a chance. Nintendo just has to ensure that they can work with Whom ever they choose. Nintendo's previous partnerships with Atari,Sony and Phillips have failed.

If it brings great online gaming to the Wii then I am all for it. I would never install that spyware on my computer but it seems safe enough for a console.

This rumor, if true, is far from being finial. Something could go wrong in the negotiations, causing Nintendo to with Steam instead, or who knows, maybe neither of them. Indeed I would rather have Valve instead of Origin, but I would also rather have Origin instead of the Wii's online.

Hope this is true. It would mean Nintendo finally listened to hardcore online gamers requests for somethnig besides the ridiculous friend code system.

@King-Gamer Nintendo said there's no HDD for liability reasons, but they gave you the ability to use any external Hard Drive you want. It's actually smart, because they're not forcing you to work by their rules, and it's more affordable this way. Besides, Nintendo has stated it will come with on-board flash memory, and they've said it'll be A LOT. @badstyle True, and untrue, Nintendo's a company that is willing to make changes and to do anything and everything possible to appeal to gamers without ever becoming a third-party. That'll never happen. EA servers are actually very good, the only problem is EA shuts them down a bit too early, Nintendo will most likely fix that though. Nintendo is a bigger name than EA after all. And, this wouldn't be the first time they've let another team or company handle the servers or Online experience in general, they've let Treyarch handle their servers on Black Ops, and I believe Infinity Ward is handling the servers in Modern Warfare 3. That's why on the front there was no Nintendo Wi-Fi logo, just a Wi-Fi logo. Well they need something better but Origin!? Rather see Steam than Origin, or at least not the beta Origin. EA and Nintendo is a rather unusual combination...
