As much as i love for starcraft and diablo and am excited as hell for SC2 and D3 id rather wait a few more months and have blizz take there time and make them as good as possible then have them ship early and end up being like a ton of the new games these days and me beating them in a day or 2 and never playing them again.
Blizzard confab descends on the Anaheim Convention Center two months earlier than last year; fans to flood four expo halls.
There's not much in the gaming hemisphere that can rival the popularity of Blizzard Entertainment's massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft, but the publisher's BlizzCon convention comes close. As part of his opening remarks last year, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said that whereas the first BlizzCon took three weeks to sell out, BlizzCon 2008 sold its 15,000 tickets within a matter of 15 minutes.
For this year's show, Blizzard is securing even more floor space at the Anaheim Convention Center to better accommodate its fans' crushing demand. In announcing BlizzCon 2009 today, the publisher said that it plans to extend its presence at the ACC from three convention halls to four.
Blizzard fans won't have to wait as long for the convention to arrive, either. Advancing from its October date last year, the publisher said BlizzCon 2009 will take place August 21-22. The date comes two and a half months after the industry's largest trade show--the Electronic Entertainment Expo--a convention Blizzard has said it will not be attending.
As in years past, BlizzCon will feature a variety of activities catering to the tastes of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo fans. Those in attendance will be able to play prereleased builds of Blizzard's upcoming games, presumably Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty and Diablo III. The show will also include a variety of panels form Blizzard developers, casual and competitive tournaments, contests, a silent auction, and a merchandise store.
Blizzard has not yet announced pricing information or ticket availability.
I totally agree with getsuga... gameking5000 you dont have to play it.. it will be gorey, it will be horrifying, and it will be the greatest game since D2 (cept half-life2 and its children) ... if you can find a way to make a game where your ultimate goal is to rid the world of the devil and his brethren without blood and gore then you go right ahead and make it... then watch it fail stupendously and then watch your company go bankrupt... loser
I doubt we ll see this game before 2k10 And sorry blizzard can make a game with gore , horror and keep this game playable. Diablo is a world of horror not a gai like wow with pink butterfly everywhere. So sad that blizzard turn an hardcore game into a kiddy candy color game.
Need...Diablo...release...date... Seriously now. If they surprised me by saying that D3 will ship in Q4 '09, I would explode from joy. But I might as well hope for winning the lottery, too.
@GetsugaTenshou That is ridicolous, i do not want to be playing an obscene game! It's sales are record and it's perfect the way it is!
So sad that the games look so cartoon/wow No more gore , no more real horror Just an hack and slash with wow like graphics
By starbead "Blizzcon in August. My speculation: SC2: WoL releasing this fall, shortly after convention. Much more info will be given about D3. My hope: Some real details about the secret MMO. For those asking about WC4, don't hold your breath. WC4 will come closer to the end of WoW's life cycle. The events in WC4 (and its inevitable expansion) will radically shift the dynamics of the Warcraft universe, paving the way for the changes that we will see in WoW2. Just my opinion." Looks more to facts to me, but blizzard din't said anything yet about release dates, as usual oc. Wow2 and WC4? Omg... i hope i still live in 2020.... Unless blizzard grows realy big they can bring games out fast. Imo, It is in blizzards interest to stay "small" (offcourse they have grown bigger since wow) to keep more controll over the quality games they make. Nevertheless.... can't wait till i lay my hands on the 2 upcomming games, hope they don't come out together i can't choose and end up in a mad-house :D
i will buy diablo 3 when it comes out becuz i had two choice, lich king or d3. but when d3 need wow original and burning crusade i rather buy d3 it's more worth it plus tyrael look kinda good!
You know, it's a good thing that Diablo 3 is taking long to come out, because once it does... Our lives are finished as we know it. So let's live for abit long... not too long though... :)
o_o, WoW, i relly like go to tha convention!,( and the game starcraft 2) ifif they come out and play for sale ........

I'm going to agree with ninjasrmammals2. No way am I going to play multiple MMO games if I have to pay 2 or more monthly subscription fees. I may try one out and if I like it, I'll dump WoW and play the other.
@beevee I think any MMO made ends up competing with WoW. Different game mechanics doesn't mean people would buy both. I believe the big difference will be if it has monthly fees or not. If it does, then no matter what kind of game it is it will be competing against WoW. People don't want 3 or 4 games they have to have subscriptions to, or at least I don't. I only assume there are people that feel the same way.
@Amir29 Assuming you aren't with a gaming magazine or site, then you can't get into E3. Anyone who buys a ticket can go to BlizzCon. Until E3 allows anyone to buy a ticket and stroll in Blizzard will have my support with their own convention. Sounds like they draw a bigger crowd than E3 anyway, I think that says a lot. Now if only I wasn't on the opposite side of the country.
MatV47: I so hope that they do bring out a Warcraft 4, but as of right now, Starcraft fans have been waiting patiently for over 10 years for a sequel to come out. I know this is wishful thinking but I wish they would take their attention off of WoW and Diablo to release Starcraft 2 earlier, the wait is killing me.
MatV47: No offense but Star Craft lovers have been waiting for a sequal to the original SC then WC3.... so wait.
Wow!! That's ego for you. Blizzard makes it's own press event, and yet refused to open a booth at the big return to the old E3? I'd prefer to see what the entire game industry is offering in E3 than simply what one publisher has (which seems like just 3 titles).
@Avenger1324: It's taking so long because that's how good games are made. I'm so glad that they are taking forever, because that means high quality games 95% of the time. I think SC2's release date will be unveiled. The fourth class in D3 will probably be unveiled. Let's face it ppl, D3 is still ways off. I would say we are still atleast 18 months away from a D3 release, and that is with high hopes.
To me Blizzard and Rockstar are probably the leading and greatest videogame creators there are. And with just a few set games (GTA,Midnight club and a few others for rockstar and the big blizzard monsters, Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft Universes). Im glad about this Blizzcon being chnged to sooner but id be happier to get a freaking release date on diablo 3 and starcraft 2 so i can know when to buy a new computer... hahaha well GIVE US DATES and good luck.
Blizzard has previously stated that the new MMO will not be a competitor with WoW - To me this suggests completely different game mechanics. They have also axed Star Craft Ghost completely. Based on these two points, and a small amount of wishful thinking, I suspect they're new MMO will Be a Starcraft FPS orientated MMO.
Or maybe they r just tryin to prove how much demand there is for a public games show in the holiday season. There will b more hype around this years blizzcon than this years and last years E3 combined. Blizzard sure know how to look after their fans.
Think about it, Blizzard doesn't just change things for no reason. There is a reason they moved Blizzcon up 2 months from October to August. What it tells me is that they already know they will have something to announce or unveil at that time. I hope it's more than release dates, like maybe what the next MMO will be, or what the 3rd WoW expansion will be, something big like that.
Actually ... now that I think about it ... since there will be 4 halls instead of 3 ... ... ... Hall 1 - StarCraft Universe Hall 2 - WarCraft Universe Hall 3 - Diablo Universe Hall 4 - ?!? [New series built straight from MMO] ?!? Can't wait until August!
Anytime I see news about Blizzard my mind just shuts out everything else O.0 IMO ... I think Blizzard will shine a release date for SC2 down on us. Aside of that . . . they will probably release the #5 class of D3, resting assured that in the months from now until then they release class #4. Versions of SC2 and D3 will be there also. As for this new MMO ... Something gives me a funny feeling that their next MMO will deal with Diablo or SC. Notice how both of the series have two games in development ... which after the release date will make countless amounts of $$. Sounds sort of familiar to WC3 and the WC series. However, I could be 100% wrong considering how unpredictable Blizzard is. Hoping that the new MMO will offer nex-gen applications, but at the same time will stay away from expensive video cards. D3. Come to me! =D
Avenger this is blizzard they wont release these two..Until there tottaly or almost bug free..There like bioware..Once its done though there awesome games an will last for years..Unlike other games you play..Diablo 2 i still play from time to time..Even in its out dated form...
We don't want another press conference about SC2 or Diablo 3 - we just want the games. What is taking so long?
@alexius2780: Does WoW bring in almost $15m a month? I thought the game was $15 a month per subscriber, of which they claim to have almost 12 million. That works out at almost $180m per month in revenue!! You can see why more and more developers and publishers are producing MMOs. Hopefully Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 come out later this year. Please!!! :)
cupcake_JR "Blizzard is a great company, can't wait. Though, I wish they would take a little more attention off WoW and put it towards other games." If your game brought in almost $15m a month, would you take your attention off it? Can't wait for Starcraft 2, just hope they don't put lame DRM on it. I'm still pissed about the way they divided the game to 3 parts lol...
They need to announce aleast one game (DIII or SCII) out in this year, because the longer they wait, geforce and ati video card drop like a rock because there's no good pc game out lately.
Blizzard is the greatest company of all time IMO. Blizz's Worldwide Invitational in 2008 was better than E3 2008. Can't wait to see what they've got planned for this BlizzCon. My hopes: -Starcraft 2 release date (if it is not already announced by this point) -New Diablo 3 class, a summoner type class (like the Necromancer or Druid) -Info on their next MMO? -And of course some WoW info that we don't already know (probably info on patch 3.3 by then)
You know you have it made when you can not only sell your product, but have people pay to just see a glimps of your next grind game that doesn't even have a release year yet.
Blizzard is a great company, can't wait. Though, I wish they would take a little more attention off WoW and put it towards other games.
