Lionhead Studios reveals anticipated Xbox 360 sequel to Peter Molyneux's role-playing game is in production; ships October 21.
Three years after the release of Fable: The Lost Chapters, the expanded PC edition of the Xbox role-playing game Fable, Lionhead Studios has struck gold again. Today on its official Web site, the shop headed by oft-honored designer Peter Molyneux announced that Fable II is in production. The Xbox 360 exclusive will ship in North America on October 21 for $59.99, going up against the PlayStation 3-only LittleBigPlanet.
According to Lionhead, Fable II is a "reworked, recreated, [and] expanded" follow-up to its critically acclaimed forbearer. It promises a world 10 times the size of the original and increasingly complex moral choices which will lead to irrevocable, game-changing results. Players can have a male or female character, own a dog, marry, have children, and even buy property. However, unlike other RPGs, enemies won't simply drop gold when killed. Characters will have to either earn it through jobs--including the coveted "henchman" position--or by gambling in the crossover title Fable II Pub Games on Xbox Live Arcade.
As with many big-name releases, Fable II will be available in standard and collector's-edition packages, with the latter selling for for $79.99. The extra $20 will give gamers a bonus disc with making-of content, a figurine of the game's Hobbe creature, an in-game dungeon and cutlass, a trial Xbox Live Gold membership, and five printed "fate cards."
You can bet it will be out on PC and Vista only as part of Microsoft's strategy to make more people buy Vista. Too bad cos I'm sticking with my XP.
i like how alot of people are comparing these two games when the game play is similar in no way shape or form. and how people say that fable 2's going to be short with only a 10hr story, PM said that it would take 10hrs if you just blazed through the story line, which if you're playing an RPG generally you wouldn't do that. if the story is 10hrs long knowing PM it means there is a minimum of 20-30hrs easy overall gameplay probably more. the original fable was a 12hr story but everyone i know that played it spent at least 20hrs just doing random things and having fun plus doing the quest in between.
fable 2 is going to appeal to almost every 360 owner that ever played an RPG or an adventure game. kids, adults, casual and hardcore gamers are going to be interested in this game, whereas LBP is going to appeal to mainly kids and casual gamers
going to be the best like lifestyle adventure rpg to come out to date no questions about it!! Cant wait!!
If LBP sells more than Fable 2 then it'll be a lawl-fest. We'll see if fable 2 can outsell the first one (which had around 3 million I believe in sales, but too lazy to check).
CAn't wait for this game but not getting at realse im getting a week later when rviews are out becuase 10 hours for and rpg is kinda short.
Well I have my limited edition pre-ordered. and to answere your question zardoth no one has said anything about it coming out for pc but it probably will in about a year or so.
i would hate if fable 2 get like a 7 or lower i wouldent mine if it can get like a 8 or more but im sure this game will get a higher level then what im hopeing lol
This is my most anticipated game of the year. Scratch that - most anticipated game of the console generation.
division_9 said "Fable 2 outselling LBP?. Theres two very strong points for both sides. There are way more Xbox 360 owners and LBP has a way wider target audience." That's a tough call. There are about 4 million more 360 owners than PS3 owners worldwide at the moment but perhaps past numbers can help us predict. Between Fable and Fable: Lost Chapters, they managed to move 3 million copies over 24 million Xbox owners, so the attach rate was about 0.125. If we expect similar numbers, with 20 miilion 360 owners out there that means they may move 2.5 million copies. Now, on the PS3 we don't really have anything like LBP out right now, so it's hard to gauge what the reception will be like. Games like GTA4 have moved 4.4 million units on the PS3, Motorstorm sold 3.5 million, MGS4 sold 3.2 million, so we know the PS3 is capable of moving software...the question then is how are average gamers going to react to LBP, and do they even know about it?
fable 2 is gonna be good but i heard that like because of that exploit in wizards tower that the more money u start off with the weaker your character is gonna b like ur gonna be penalized for it

nothing i didnt already know... BUT its just hyped me up even more! im currently bouncing in my chair! SO UNFAIR that america gets it first! im sick of that! its a british game, we australians are closer to england than america is! *pouts*
ILL HAVE THE GAME but im suspect on Molyneux he promised all this with fable one. And it was a fun great short game but the way he talked about fable one the elder scrolls oblivion ended up being the game fable one was be to a point. SO we will see how REVALUTIONARY fable 2 is IT WILL BE AN EXCITING , fun game no doubt , but i doubt it will be genre defining.
shouldn't need a explanation, but for all the non-fanboys who enjoy whatever systems, because 2 highly anticipated titles come out in the same timeframe = fodder and fuel for the flamewars. Nevermind that the games are totally different from one another and very different demographics at play, which ever wins (sold more/higher review score)gives that 'side' more bragging rights.
I cant wait for this game, I loved the first one^.^ BUT! I am worried about the one button thing no lie.. Hope its good since I reserved it already..lol
Jeff_Boldt, your soo smart! ... hopefully it is a good game. He is British though! and hes lied to us before, only with a 15 hour max out skill game... but i did like the scars and tats that's always good, but hey they said i couldn't kill a white blaverine with out a silver augment. and i proved them wrong! it just took me over 2 hours and about three times reloading... but i killed him... master kitana
well im gonna say it will probably get a 9.0... i don't think it will get any lower or higher only because i know everything! also by judging the last game which got an 8.5 so i am assuming that with 10 times the size and better graphics, deeper consequences and choices.. a .5 better makes sense.. haha...
I still have mixed feelings about this game. I'm going to wait for the "player" reviews I think. Oh and only the ones that are written a few days after fable 2 has been out. October is going to be a great month for games anyway, so I don't feel rushed to go out and get this. I hope it's good. I'm still kind of let down by the whole 10 hour thing, so i'm interested to see what the people that do buy this think after they beat it.
october 21st is big day of gaming for me. LBP and Fable 2 both in the same day. I own both ps3 and 360, which is good idea considering there is a HUGE library for the 360 and then the select few excellent games for the ps3 that the 360 will never see. keeps you from pouting about not being able to play those certain titles
I agree with mattcake: I'm really contemplating on getting a PS3 for games like LBP, but I'm definiteley getting Fable 2 when it's released.
Hold on... they only just announced it was in development? I've been reading previews etc about this game for months... isn't this article a little late?
mattcake; I disagree with LBP outselling Fable II, although I should say I think LBP might outreview f2, I think at this point though the majority of 360 owners have been waiting for and watching fable 2 for a long time, and let's face it, there's just more 360 owners than there are ps3 owners at this point. That being said there's always the looming possibility of the ol' molyneux double bluff here, where we're told we're gonna get an awesome game with tons of options, moral choices, multiple endings, realistic freedom and then we get invisible walls, linear gameplay, 3 or 4 identical sets of armor only varying by color and stats, etc..... I'm not holding my breath for fable 2 but I'll buy it when it comes out, who knows, maybe molyneux made a decent game this time around.
I can't see it beating LBP in sales, but since when did sales represent a game's quality :) I've been waiting for LBP for a *long* time and I don't even own a PS3, along with MGS and KZ2 it's the "deciding factor" on a PS3 purchase for me... I hope it's great - and if it aint, then Fable2 will keep me occupied :)
I'm buyin' it, the only problem I had with the first was that it was too short (and I had the lost chapters), now that everything is being expanded, this should be what the first one was supposed to be. Wonder if it will top little big planet in sales though...
Please don't suck, I'm kinda looking forward to this :) Don't care which is better, if LBP is cool too I will grab a ps3 and play it. Play the games and enjoy em peeps, who cares which console they're on.
Dear king bobo, Xbox gets Halo and GoW exclusively because they f-ing publish the games you twit (the Microsoft Publishing screen didn't give that away?), just like God of War and Resistance being only on Sony systems...not because the developers like the systems more.......have an unpleasant day.
Comparing this to LBP is just ridiculous...one's a Real-time RPG and the other is a puzzle/strat. The only reason why they mentioned it in the article is b/c it releases same day...they weren't really comparing them. I keep seeing talk of PC (Which btw 2005wrxsti...the PC version works fine on my comp...try deleted some of that porn that keeps giving you spyware). Don't assume either way with this game. 1) Lost Chapters didn't come out for yrs so don't go getting all sad this isn't announced for pc. 2) Don't go getting your heart a flutter either cause Molyneux has said "We're just working on this version for now...we'll look into PC later" Autolycus...I totally agree with you on every point...but shame on you...this happens every 4th qrt...gotta save while you're not buying those crappy games that are all hype *cough*Force Unleashed, Haze, Kane & Lynch, Too Human, etc.*cough*. I came to the conclusion of if it's not a sequel (which doesn't always work *cough*Halo 3 offered nothing new*cough*) then don't go run out and buy it...that's what Gamefly is for. "I don't get money for killing things or completely mission given to me only because I'm OFFERING my services because it's the RIGHT thing to do as a hero...or randomly slaying things and destroying whole towns for money and money earning property because I'm Evil and that's what I do."........my response.........GET A JOB YOU BUM lol. Last but not least...you don't HAVE to play the first or "second"(Lost Chapters) game. Storyline wise Fable II is several thousand yrs in the future so as far as a link(s) they won't be anything but simple background addition like a statue of the previous character maybe or Jack of Blades...idk just saying the won't be linked beyond simple matters....nothing specific. That and the gameplay is different, so learning the old system won't really help you on this one. Now don't get me wrong...if you haven't played Fable or Lost Chapters then I say go ahead cause I love this game. But as far a it being a necessity...nope.
I must say that I totally agree with what condemned100 is saying about developers not tapping into the PS3's potential, but everyone should know that by now. The fact is that the PS3 is better technically, but developers love the Xbox 360 and so it gets more games that are generally better (e.g. Gears of War, Halo 3). Let's hope that the PS3 manages to prove it's potential before people give up on it (which they hopefully won't).
Why don't they fix the first one for PC...example: lag, lag, CRASH!!! Nope it's not my PC, Q6700 OC'd to 3.0ghz, GTX280 OC'd to 700mhz, 1525shader etc. and 4gig up to 900mhz. The game has horrible memory leaks...wait, doesn't this sound familiar to VISTA??? *DING* Now I understand...*Tosses Fable CD's to his dog like a frisbee*
It sounds awesome, of that there's no doubt. I'm not sure I like the idea of not getting money from killing enemies though. It would be a tough choice if I had to choose between LBP and Fable II, but I'd have to go with LBP because you can make your own levels.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 is running on it's peak Hardware power performance. While PS3 hasn't even touched on what it can really do in raw graphics power due to the fact that game developers haven't tapped into the PS3's full potential and graphics power. I don't own a PS3 However i'm saving for one I do however own a Core Xbox 360 from Launch. And yes I did get the red rings for the third time. I can't afford games for my Xbox 360 and i'm thinking of trading it in for SNK vs Capcom 2 for the PS2 of course. I'm a 2D-3D fighter fan what can I say. :)
man I cant wait. I reserved the collectors edition witch comes with bonus content for in game play. Normally I dont get collectors edition cause the extra 10 or 20 bucks. However when it said that it had in game affect. I had to get it for this. Plus it came with a pub games download for xbox live.
I want so many games from Oct to early dec its not even funny. Fable2, GOW2, Far Cry 2 tops the list. others include Fallout 3 and Mirrors Edge, COD5 WOW, Dead Space, Saints Row2, James Bond QOS, Prince Of Persia, these alone will cost me at least $600. no im not getting any special editions except maybe GOW2 and far Cry 2.
Wish I had a 360 for RPG's like Fable. I have a PS3 and I am damn happy though, I am going to love LBP. The PS3 is really making its way up the ladder. As for the 360 I'm so upset that it has such great RPG's. Notice how MS is targeting the PS3 fans while Sony is targeting the MS fans with their FPS. I hope Sony starts working on some RPG's of their own soon, I would love to see Dark Cloud 3 on the PS3.
doctor_ice "cannot wait for this one, but would it be prevelant if I played the first one before going on to this one?" Well you don't have to have played part 1 I suppose. But on the otherhand you should be able to get the PC version pretty cheap. (or get it on your Xbox 360 for 1200 Microsoft points) Furthermore Fable one is a very good game....so it's totally Worth playing tbh. AND it gives you something to do while waiting for Fable 2 :P
