Hopefully we don't end up with another broken turd like Far Cry 2. Some of the gameplay mechanics were awesome - setting fires in a jungle? YES PLEASE! - but there were so many bad design decisions: the 'silent' machete that alerted every goddamn soldier in the base, the sniper rifle that - at point blank range - went completely unheard by enemies, the always-almost-completely-broken weapons that could fire three shots before breaking (seriously?), and goddamn Malaria Vision TM.
Ubisoft's action shooter pushed from September debut to December 4 in North America, November 29 in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Far Cry 3 won't be out this September as previously planned. Ubisoft announced today that the first-person shooter has been delayed to December 4 in the United States. A release in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) is scheduled for November 29.
Ubisoft producer Dan Hay explained the company needs more time with Far Cry 3 before shipping it to retailers to make sure it delivers on quality.
"We're taking more time to create the best possible gameplay experience," he said. "Far Cry 3 is a huge offering and we want every element of this insane, action-packed adventure to be of the highest possible quality for the players."
[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, a Ubisoft representative told GameSpot no decisions have yet been made regarding if the game's delay will change Ubisoft's plans for the Far Cry 3 beta.
"We are still doing our best to make that determination, but nothing is confirmed yet," reads the statement.
Far Cry 3 will cast players as Jason Brody, a man stranded on a strange tropical island similar to the setting of the first Far Cry. Gamers will head out into this "savage paradise" and "slash, sneak, and shoot" to survive in a world that has "lost all sense of morality."
Along with delaying Far Cry 3 today, Ubisoft announced release dates for upcoming games. Just Dance 4 will hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii on October 9 in the United States and October 2 in EMEA. A Wii U version will arrive during the system's launch window this holiday season.
The publisher's guitar-focused music game Rocksmith, with new content that allows players to plug in a bass guitar, will be released for the first time in EMEA regions for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 27. A PC iteration will follow in these regions on October 18. All versions of the game will be available in the United States on October 17. Existing Rocksmith owners can purchase bass compatibility as downloadable content on September 4.
all i hope is its not clunky like 2, i mean driving wasnt comfortable, shooting down sight felt weird, and this is coming from someone who plays simulators, thats not what this is, so they should make movement feel natural, battlefields movement system would best suit this imo

I'm not hating on the game or the Devs, but it confuses me on how the say they need more time to work on the game, yet they only delayed it in the United States.
@Ultra_Taco the game was supposed to be released september 4th i think maybe not the right day but it was definitely supposed to be in the 1st half of september because it was before borderlands 2 , they delayed it over three months, theyre just releasing it in the uk, middle east, and africa 1st
YES! Take your time! Make the game right, and we Gamers will make you rich. I expect Ubisoft to announce another delay going into summer of next year as well. Dec 4 is a bad time of year to release a game. November is the cut off month until earliest Q2 (april-June) on the all the best game titles, but we'll be eagerly awaiting the updates.
id hate to break it to you but its not a bad release date, its right before christmas, contrary to popular belief every game that has multiplayer included is not a multiplayer based game, so halo/black ops 2 will not effect the sales of far cry 3 much, it is a campaign driven game that includes coop, and happens to have multiplayer, aside from halo and black ops i expect it to be the highest selling game for end of year, right up there with dishonored, which is primarily going to sell off of its publisher, the worst game ive ever seen bethesda make was brink and that wasnt half bad. just saying
@krook757 I was speculating on past experience waiting for a popular new release. They usually release big titles at times of the year when consumers have the most expendable cash in their pockets and December is not the best month of the year for that. I have little doubt the game will sell very well either way, and I reserve the right to be 100% wrong about this prediction of mine. ;)
@krook757 If im going to buy a game for myself then I have less money to spend at that time of year on myself. The only people who buy video games as presents are parents of children for the most part. I would like to think a good chunk of gamers age range is 18-30 but maybe that is just wishful thinking. I will concede that with your marketing experience that you are more qualified to make a guess than myself. I am only speculating and going by past experience for what that is worth. Time will tell.
@moc5 so youre telling me, dec 4th, the time of year when the majority of chrismas shopping is done, in your opinion isnt the time when most people have the most money to spend, i do agree beginning of the month isnt ideal due to the fact that is when rent usually comes out which isnt really a issue for december, because most responsible people put back a christmas fund which is why for huge releases december is probably the best time to release a title and this is coming to you from someone who has been a marketing strategist for about 4 years now, end of march and decemberish are the best times to release games, christmas and income tax, that and around the 1st and the 15th for government paydays
@neonblueshadow so what exactly was wrong with future soldier? it was balanced for the most part, aside from one or two parts the campaign could completed completely stealthily without struggling to figure out how to do it, the unlock system was fair, i didnt see too much wrong with it except that you need a full team with mics to win, and there werent enough enjoyable game modes
@krook757 When I made this comment, I had just purchased the game and found it buggy to the point where it was unplayable. The game had frequent crashes to desktop and even some crashes that completely locked my computer, and a myriad of other minor glitches (but the latter was expected..) . The support forums of the game suggested that I was definitely not alone, and they were getting a new complaint post at an incredibly high rate. Either way, my comment was made two months ago and is only valid regarding the game quality at launch, especially since I haven't re-installed the game in the interim. I never had any issues with the gameplay (only tried single player), it was entertaining, story was the usual garbage, but I wasn't playing the game for story...
@neonblueshadow they delayed that game several times way over 2 years and it was still a joke, so just because its being delayed doesnt mean it wont have problems
It's always sad to see games rushed out by the big publishers, filled with bugs and plot holes. As bad as Ubisoft's been with DRM in the past, they're definitely one of the best when it comes to giving the devs the time they need to do their magic.
That's awesome because it was releaseing too close to Borderlands 2. Plus, I appreciate them trying to make the game as good as possible, and not rushing it out at 99%.
i think that this is good that it got delayed until December because then i can just get it for Christmas instead of spending my own money on it.
3 months, no biggie. They should take their time, and perfect the game and work out all the bugs and not rush and release games like other developers
Ubisoft pushing back a game, shocker!!. Must say i think they are worst gaming company at setting a date and never sticking to it. Only ever trust Ubisoft release dates when shops actually recieve their copies.
ohh what a surprise... they give a release date and start the preorder and then postponed it... oh wait, i heard of these delays happening before, like for almost all the games....
wow. I just woke up to this. Pretty bummed. I live in America too, so I'll be the last guy to play my favorite game, on a month where I do nothing but work all day and do finals. Thanks a lot.
Ubisoft is milking that Just Dance franchise to death. They're gonna send it down the same path as the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises.
At least it wasn't bumped back to next year. However, I would think it would be in Ubisofts best interests for to get it out BEFORE Black Ops 2.
I am hesitantly looking forward to this game anyway, it LOOKS great, but FC2 did as well. I simply don't trust Ubisoft to do this franchise justice after #2. However I really WANT them to do this well, as I really miss the setting of the first Far Cry (Crytek).
Along with that polish - please include the ability for my XBOX 360 saved games to not become corrupted. I will be waiting for at least a month after launch before getting this due to the broken game saves on the last Far Cry.
Whatever Ubisoft. Just make sure that when you finally do release this game that it is as revolutionary as you say it will be.
dam, i was looked foward to extending my labor day weekend with this game, smh, oh well, I guess I got something to look foward to this holiday season. but i am disappointed no the less, but now theres pressure on you guys to deliver a great game along with the anticipation. now you get and extra 2 and half months before you ship your copies of your "polished game" Game rating wise if this game is a 8.5 or less, we'll look at ubi, as like what was the delay for, pushing back till the end of the year, should have this game at 9, but we'll see in 6 months
@shalashaska88 haha that is the most simplistic, boiled down yet spot-on viewpoint of the franchise I've ever heard.
Fuck you ubisoft for again delaying another great franchise! Why do you destroy all the great franchise like far cry, splinter cell to games that become too easy ! these games were better when they first came out !!
So if a game doesn't get delayed passed its scheduled release date, that means it's not 100%+ polished like these other games that get pushed back several times?
@MaddenBowler10 Or, you know, the developer actually finished it on time. Publishers have a habit of announcing game release dates far too early in development when it isn't clear exactly how long it will take to finish the game. Occasionally the stars do align though and a developer can actually meet the insane deadline set by the publisher.
