Final Fantasy XIII-2 tops UK games chart
After six weeks at the top, FIFA 12 gets knocked down to four, and Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the first new release to go to number one in 2012.
It has been all change in the UK games chart this week, with three new releases going straight into the top five. Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII-2 leapt straight to the top of the all-formats chart, ending FIFA 12's six-week reign at number one. The game already has dated DLC, with the Lightning and Master Sergeant Amodar coliseum battle due to be released this week, with more episodic content coming soon. For those who don't know their Moogles from their Chocobos, be sure to check out GameSpot's guide to the long-running series.
Also new to the top five is Konami's Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which entered the chart at number two this week. Featuring remastered versions of PlayStation 2 titles Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the HD collection also includes Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker from the PSP.
SoulCalibur V is also new to the chart this week, entering at number five. Despite positive review scores and an appearance from assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze, it failed to meet SoulCalibur IV's number one debut back in August 2008, which knocked Wii Fit off the top spot.
And although FIFA 12 has fallen from the top spot, it appears that football fever hasn't completely died out, with Football Manager 2012 holding the top spot of the PC chart for the 12th week in a row.
UK All-Formats Chart for Week Ending 4 February 2012:
1. Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Square Enix Europe
2. Metal Gear Solid HD Collection - Konami
3. Battlefield 3 - Electronic Arts
4. FIFA 12 - Electronic Arts
5. SoulCalibur V - Namco Bandai Games
6. Assassin's Creed: Revelations - Ubisoft
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Activision Blizzard
8. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Bethesda Softworks
9. Just Dance 3 - Ubisoft
10.Saints Row: The Third - THQ
Great news :D
I am playing the game right now and I enjoy it greatly. I was afraid it was bad because of some reviews (like the one here in GS. But there are worse) and the only thing I can say is that many people pretending they know the Final Fantasy series just forgot how tedious could be to play the older games. FF XIII-2 just flows. The only downside is that it needs an Hard Mode. Hopefully with a patch. Otherwise it is great in all aspects.
YEAH!
Sure win for this franchise~
@musalala Yep, because Scientology has been right so far...
lazy article is lazy. couldn't bother to post sales numbers
@Starshine_M2A2 Basically the ancient alien astronauts will return and establish a grand intergalactic cosmic empire.
i'm enjoying the game but i would have loved it if it was all about lightning in valhalla. the beginning part was just breath taking. i'll pay another $60.00 bucks for a full ff XIII - 3(?) for the complete valhalla storyline.
final fantasy 13-2 was pretty good kept me playing for 60 hours almost non-stop hopefully people will be less stubborn and play it instead of believing in an opinion of it being bad think of it as an another rpg thats better than most. I can definitely say for a fact I loved this game way way more than Skyrim. : )
@musalala Yes, because the UK is the only country whose population plays Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Battlefield... Those world wide sales figures listed in Empire which all leaned towards the US must be all wrong. Now please enlighten us on the future of the cosmos...

Great!!!!!!
Surprise me not
Just saw the TV ad for FF. One of the campest things I've ever seen which reinforces my reasons for not playing it. It's for kids.
FFXIII-2?! I wonder how those people will feel when they realise that they need to pay more for the real ending.
LOL sorry this is the uk their taste in gaming is sometime questionable.
FFXIII-2 over MGS HD collection? For shame Europe, for shame.
I think FF 13-2 was pretty good. People keep saying how the series has gone bad. It's not bad, just not as good as it was before. I think FF 13-2 deserves it. Awesome, SoulCalibur V is on there too.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is amazing and totally deserves selling the most
It's great to see the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection up there.
Well got FF13 pt 2 love it and got MGS HD Collection. Well HD collection sold a lot and i think They should do MGS HD Collection 2. They should put gamecube MGS 1 Twin snakes, Another psp one and MGS4 With tropics. I welcome they be more HD collections and i wish they shout do 2 HD Collections of GTA, HD Collection of KH, Max Pyne and more.
So where are the figures again? Really curious to see what the sales numbers were. BTW Lucy, welcome to Gamespot! :)
@Tikeio: I don't see anything ironic with the way Noel dresses. He does so exactly like a Pulse native, especially if you look at Fang.
They put it out the right week too; nothing much else came out. My money is staying in my pocket for Amalur though.
(yawn) Rubbish game. The story isn't as good as FF XIII. The graphics are not as good either. The main characters are dull. Basically FF XIII-2 is a dull game. I'd rather play MGS HD Collection anyday of the week :D
sqare-enix answers customers' demand very well .. serve it right
@Tikeio I guess it depends if it's 'tacked-on' as you say or it is a really well developed and produced piece of DLC but going along the lines of most DLC I can see where your coming from. She was just so angsty.... I didn't find she really developed as a character (although I didn't get past pulse) I just found her character rather bland and lacked anything interesting. "who looks and acts 12" I didn't think Vanille was in this one, well I hope she isn't :P
@torbonator I'm not interested in tacked-on DLC featuring Lightning. But I'd rather play as a 21 year-old (Lightning in XIII) who looked and acted 21 instead of a 21 year-old who looks and acts 12 + a guy from the future, who ironically dresses like a hippie. Just saying.
@Tikeio A side story featuring Lightning is in the works as DLC I believe, although Lighting was a rather boring character.... I'm glad Serahs the main character this time around.
No Lightning = no buy.
I bought FFXIII-2 not expecting much to be honest I only got it because it says Final Fantasy on the case but I do have a hope that it will be better than XIII.... annoyingly my PS3 broke so now I can't play it. However one thing I am annoyed about is DLC within release week I find it disgusting DLC should be add-on's and expansions produced after game release this DLC could have been packaged in game.
Bought the 1st two myself! Best 85 quid i ever spent! :)
I find it interesting that sales numbers have not been included?
I really advice everyone to pick up FFXIII-2 and play it, its one of the best FF game to come out in a long while, was very worth playing and im glad its on top
