'Full-fledged' Assassin's Creed title coming in 2012

By Jonathan Downin

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says that stealth-action series will continue with another annual installment next year.

The Assassin's Creed series has been an annual franchise for Ubisoft since 2009's Assassin's Creed II. It is now clear that the yearly release schedule will continue at least through 2012.

During Ubisoft's 2012 first-half earnings call today, CEO Yves Guillemot took an opportunity to confirm that an Assassin's Creed title will launch next year. "I have the pleasure to announce today that there will be another full-fledged Assassin's Creed title next year. It will be another major release, and we will be communicating more about it in the coming months," said Guillemot.

Confirmation of another future entry in Ubisoft's stealth action series comes just a week before the release of Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Revelations will resolve the story of Ezio, who was first introduced in Assassin's Creed II. This time out, Ezio will seek out the haunts of original Assassin's Creed protagonist Altair, visiting such Middle East strongholds as the Ottoman Empire's Constantinople. There, Ezio will once again take up arms against the Templar order.

@liam72 ""a Chinese Ezio would lack personality" ... Chinese people have no personnality?"" No... A Chinese Ezio would lack personality because Chinese people have no SOULS.... duh. Personally, I think Ubisoft should stop screwing their fanbs with $60 expansion packs (ie: Brotherhood and Revelation) and stop leaving me with more questions than I have answers. Yes, I get it.. it's a conspiracy... yes, I get it... Templars are trying to take over the world. NO, I DO NOT GET why there are f'king ALIENS at the end of my game and NO, I DO NOT GET why you won't tell me why there are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@shadowmaster222. I never said anything about taking away the hidden blade, I just think having guns or letting the player use guns would be cool. And the only call of duty I liked was black ops. And no Im not a nerd, because you know nothing about me....I'm not a video game so don't play with me. :)

guys, just watch the damn Embers movie. it's not even a wink, it's an entire pointing to the next chapter. i'm sorry for your hopes, but that's just the way it is. deal with it!

luizferrarezzi 14 pts

the strange thing is the fact that in the movie "marathon man" (1976 with dustin hoffman) one character have the same hidden blade.

Scar-face123 you're not right. The thing that make AC a unique game is that there are not guns action. If you are a fan you should know that the hidden blades are the special thing about the game !!! If you think otherwise, then go play Call of Duty with your nerdy friends :D

It is hinted in the 'Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia' which I have because I bought the Animus edition of Revelations (cos I'm a total nerd :D) that some future AC storyline will be set in Imperial Russia. At least it has three chapters devoted to story called 'Middle Ages', 'Renaissance' and 'Imperial Russia' (the latter is a very short chapter). As far as I know none of the AC spin offs so far have been set in Russia so that must be a plan for future game(s).

I am a huge fan of the Assassins Creed series, however I finished Assassin's Creed: Revelations and I did not like it as much as AC2 and Brotherhood. I hope Ubisoft goes with colonial america as there time period because AC series need some gun action

warder3750 5 pts

they're really trying to break the bank...i'll have to see some real innovation in the series. i'm talking like 1 to 2 status...2 and brotherhood were practically clones...story is always good though ;)

I really would like to see co-op. Main story co-op. Even if like the co-op in Halo. Where it is a drop in character not really part of the story. A chance to play through with a friend, flank enemies or distractions. :D

My opinion is that the game shouldn't go back to the Middle Age. Since it tells the story of a fraction and a specific "family", the third game should be set beteween the 16 and 18 century. The problem is that these periods lack historical events, compared to older ones. I disagree with the enlightment and France and a Chinese Ezio would lack personality....If I could choose, I would love to see an AC game set in WW2, but that one could be AC 5 or 6.... I would go for England, around the 16th century...

I'd like new AC be located in France just prior burning Templar leaders 1314 or about this time. The hero could be Altair's granson or grandfather of Ezio who in the end of the game could go in Italy. First Borgia Pope, an ancestor of Rodrigo would appear. Missing link, like Deus Ex.

Ancient Egypt , hmm? Historicaly It fits the Templars more than the muslims shia sect in medieval time (known as The Secret Order of Hashshins (Assassins) started worshiping Ancient Egypt Gods, The Templars where digging into the Ground and found something belong to Jewish sect , who worshiped Pagan Egyption Gods and practice their black magic , The Sect is called The Khblah or so it called. After SalahDin kicked them out , they escaped to France , obviously the pop Discovered they do not worship Jesus Peace be upon so he burned them at sticks , some them fled and hid Themselves in England . They called Themeless the Hidden Hand , and worked behind the scene until the New world was Discovered , and they want to America , Most of you know George Washington . His called Grand Freemasons, Or the New World Order . Yes the Templars became Freemason according to some historian. Still the Freemasons themeless Praise the Templars . Freemasons worships Pagan Gods though they still used Torah , the old testament . Heard of Madonna Fact about America : 1- 8 of those so called Fathers of America were Freemasons 2- 16 President of USA were Freemasons. So i will go Colonial America.

Scar-face123 5 pts

ok... I just heard that Ubisoft sent a survey out for fans to choose the next time period within the game. The choices are: a) Ancient Eygpt b) Victorian Era c) Colonial America I don't know about anybody else but I want the game to be set in either victorian era or colonial america both a very interesting time periods. I Hope and pray they choose one out of those two because ancient eygpt to me is very boring. So Please Ubi choose Victorian Era or Colonial America.

I don't think they should make it in the 1800's. They should get into the 1700's and stop because then the games would lose their old world grandeur.

TheVGamer 5 pts

Mayan assassins? It would be cool if some of those ruins are actually Temples left by Them.

Atladica 5 pts

Just make it like 2. No multiplayer and an actual time to develop.

if u gonna make a totally new AC, pls make it at samurai era plz...it will be different and great too.

atgeoe 5 pts

@Scar-face123 iv'e heared rumors that AC3 will take place in Egypt with Altair's son, whom he talks to at the end of revelations. It's not certain but its better than nothing.

Scar-face123 5 pts

oooh i have another idea, the game can be set in WW2 and just like Inglorious basterds you will be a leader of a jew-american squad that soul mission is to as Brad Pitt says "Killin Nazis".

Scar-face123 5 pts

i'm so excited about the new AC3 can't wait, but i have to be honest i'm sick of Ezio. I would like to see a new time period maybe the character could be a confederate soldier set in the 1800, or maybe he is a soldier in the first world war, or it's kinda stupid but maybe the new character for AC3 could be a italian immigrant that comes to america during WW2 and he starts the american mafia, however "the mafia" are actually assassin's and the templars would be law enforcement and the leader of the templars would be like j.edgar hoover lol. and your allies would be john dilinger and luciano, or the nazis could be templars as well that would be interesting and hitler would be the leader.... so much possibilities. :p

I'm tired of Ubisoft. Yearly AC games is almost as bad as yearly CoD games. ALMOST.

marceleleco, Agreed, a Ninja would be very obvious and yes 'Cliche', a Monk however not so much : )

marceleleco 5 pts

@thenephariouson imperial japan would be nice too but he would be a ninja right?ninja games are too cliche.

marceleleco 5 pts

i would like to see something diferent from ezio and altair.maybe a black guy in africa, maybe egypt, maybe spain or france or england idk.just dont want to be desmond, that would end the history.

O and you guys do not appreciate games at all do you? You complain that this series is milking fans? Assassins Creed series is up to about five games only...FIVE. What about COD? So far they have made about 8 games in the series, Halo has made 6 games to the series(excluding future releases), and ALL of YOU GUYS are gonna complain that Ubisoft is Milking us? Get your facts straight because this is one of the best franchises in game history alone.

reyace 10 pts

Hopefully it is in Russia. If you guys saw a while back at a showing for comics of games and such,(around when Assassins Creed 2 came out), they had a comic book based on a Russian Assassin based off of the ancestory of Desmond. So that would be a more reasonable title for the next game.

GamingForLives 5 pts

Guess they might finally release Assassins Creed 3, though i highly doubt the 2012 release

Assassins Creed: Desmond Complete game modern day. End of the story.

thenephariouson 13 pts

Ok Ubi, lets have an AC in Imperial Japan, now that would be cool.

armandoisgreat 6 pts

If they want funds, i suppose this is the way to go. I'm not sure, though. I think the minor changes in brotherhood and revelations could've been saved for one game. I guess we'll see if the masses start to tire of the series, which i doubt will happen soon.

Shantmaster_K 16 pts

Im happy with this. I love all of the AC games. I would love to have them keep coming out

snake3rules 6 pts

So I guess that means that "revelations" won't have any either ... I guess I'm stuck waiting for one called assassins creed resolutions.

Jane_22 18 pts

As long as its good like the last games in the series, i dont mind for another one in 2013 too.

MOwens9512 16 pts

I'm good with this, but only because so far (waiting on Revelations) they've done enough with each release to improve upon and/or add upon the game play experience. The overall story arc is sorta bizarre (WTH with alien masters LOL) but the story within the gameplay has been pretty cool and they give you enough to make it worth taking a look at. I will say this though: if the next one doesn't end the Desmond story, or at least move into Desmond as being the featured character, it will be annoying and dissappointing. I mean good Lord, how many past relatives of his must we live through until he can handle things on his own? LOL

Most of the hardcore fans already know that Ubi is developing AC3. Even has its official fanpage on facebook started a month or two ago. So this news is kinda not new for me :) Oh yea, it WILL have new character, new time, new place setting and will end desmond saga of 'world end' just before December 21, 2012. http://www.facebook.com/AssassinsCreedIII

They're really milking this franchise for all they can it seems. Quantity over quality: the chosen approach of all the big publishers it seems...

I really look forward to this! - it's gonna be Desmond's story this time!

Fantastic news! AC is quickly becoming my favorite franchise. I'm always anxious for the next one after I finish the current one. I'm very glad I will only have to wait a year to get my AC fix. I do hope they remove the mission specific tasks to get 100% sync that was introduced in Brotherhood. Some were fun, but overall I think I'd rather see them jettison the whole concept.

NodakJo2010 6 pts

This is turning into a COD like reputation.....Please stop...I'd rather you take 2 years to improve the features and develop a really indepth storyline.

cream_assault 14 pts

Wish they improve the combat mechanics for this game. It's getting old real fast.

@timmy0001 : hmmmmm..how are those ''game party'' titles doing that are released every year? Oh yeah! What about Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero? So far besides Call of Duty all we see with annual releases are casual games and sports games...neither of which require any strenuous addition in material or concept. Most games take a good 2+ years to develop and the exceptions like Call of Duty have campaign modes only 3 hours long..seems like a ''pretty short burst'' to fit story in to me.Call of Duty and Battlefield both got 8.5's..how is that then better than the 9's and 10's that many non-annual games get? I can't think of a single annual game that has gotten a 10 but several non-annual ones that have. And just because something sells doesn't make it better or good..otherwise Justin Bieber would actually be a *shudders* ''great'' artist. And wow...you seriously tell people to ''shut up and play WoW'' just for having an opinion different than yours? I rest my case..

timmy0001 30 pts

I wish they'd turn splinter cell into an annual release game.
