if they have the use of microphones in the 360 version that means that they will have support for it in the pc version. I really don't want seperate servers because the server pops will be lower overall, I really can't think of any disadvantage/advantage a pc or 360 player would have over one another, so I don't even see a need for seperate servers.
The Oslo, Norway-based company reports increased losses over last year's fourth quarter, but insists this was "anticipated."
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures developer Funcom has reported its fourth-quarter earnings, for the three-month period ending December 31, 2007. Revenues slightly declined over the same period the previous year from $2.1 million to $1.7 million, and losses before taxes widened from $1 million to $3.1 million.
The company is hurting from the latest delay and costs associated with its massively multiplayer online role-playing game Age of Conan, which was put back in January from March to May 20. Funcom states that this is as expected, and that revenues are expected to continue to decline slightly until the game's release. It adds that, so far, more than 500,000 people have signed up for the Age of Conan beta and/or the game's newsletter.
Furthermore, during the previous year's Q4, Lost Eden was released, along with an expansion pack for sci-fi MMO Anarchy Online, which spiked revenues over that period. Anarchy Online, along with Plutolife, is providing "steady revenues," according to the company line.
Funcom would also like everyone to know that its financial position remains strong, and it has a cash balance of $52.4 million as of the end of December.
Another booster pack is currently in the works for Anarchy Online, along with the implementation of a new rendering engine. Funcom is also hard at work on the recently announced MMO The Secret World. Casual MMOs are also on the radar, with the technology required currently in development.
@uberjannie: Thank you for commenting on the whole "Yes, it is coming to 360" thing. I swear, almost every article I read concerning Age of Conan fails to mention that fact... well, until the last article I read from Gamespot, which mentions it in the very last sentence. They need to market this game better or it's going to go the way of FFXI ( the only MMORPG on 360, which I played for about 6 months). Hopefully they have 360 only servers so almost everybody will have a microphone, typing is a bit tedious for good gameplay (and I type about 50 words per minute).
I like to see the... The Secret World, so far it seems to be something cool. Update the graphics on that one and it might be a hit.
Jim_The_Rebel - "Well the profits may have gone down but I hope it doesn't effect the progress of the 360 version of this!" I'm pretty sure if they manage to deliver AoC on May 20, they wont have to worry about having enough resources to complete the 360 version, seeing how many people are interested in the game.
Yeah, if they want to make more money, a 360 or ps3 port is a must. It may even boost sales of M$'s messenger pack (chat pad).
It's a hard business, MMO's so I give them so much credit for this. Go with it Funcom, and I cannot wait for Age of Conan for the 360!
Age of Conan, AO, Secret World...? More "casual mmos are also on the radar"? Longest Journey MMO perhaps? Hint, hint.
Well the profits may have gone down but I hope it doesn't effect the progress of the 360 version of this!
