'Games at Google' now hiring

@Id13h4rdI I'm not sure casual gaming is a gateway drug as much as it's appealing to people that wouldn't otherwise play video games by dumbing down everything and using a MMORPG inspired reward system to get people totally hooked. I don't envision this audience as all being completely new to games and therefore easily impressed, as much as they appreciate how easily accessible the mechanics are. The negative side of this is they've laid bare just how cheap, boring, and repetitive games can be and still make money by using hooks and aggressive social marketing. On the positive side, it really is giving video game companies another market to make money. I mean did TV shows ever stop blockbuster movies from being made? The additional revenue streams simply increase the amount of cash that can be leveraged for bigger productions. It's also not like mainstream console gaming is not a fast growing market because it most definitely is.

@Masta_Rix Casual games are a gold mine. The 2nd most profitable gaming company in the world right now is the creator of Farmville. Casual gamers are killing what most consider real gaming. Is this a bad thing? No in my opinion. Casual gaming is the "gateway drug" into better video games.

I hate how were going from 3d + motion control + mind control + peripherals to a tiny touch screen as our future outlook on gaming. The kids are gonna be a bunch of slobs. Google for the kids sake at least add bluetooth connectivity so we can add the wiimote and mindset etc. hacks to your games. By the way that mario brother remix game with all the nintendo characters, very cool.

Maybe they are making games for Google+...But it would be great if they make quality games for pc or console. Who know if the ever become Game publisher or console developer...o_0

Please make real games, or just don't make games.

I expect google to be more in the vein of "Zynga" type games. I can't see them doing console or real pc games anytime soon. I could be wrong though. Another possibility to look out for from them is a greater emphasis on indie game development or the android community.

Google likes to push the envelope. They'll start with Farmville and turn it into something good. Zynga games make scads on money and they're addictive as hell. Imagine if they were actually GOOD.

@Solace427 I bet google would have a hell of a lot better quality control if they did really get into gaming then say EA to name but one I bet they wouldn't have bought Westwood and destroyed Cnc Ofc that's my opinion (about google not about CnC go play the last 2 games...)

Google could really own the whole cloud gaming thing, maybe that's what they are going for.....I'm not sold on it yet, BUT with google you never know

i'm slowly falling in love with google they are an awesome company and actually seem to know what they are doing and you can tell through their taking over of everything lol and they have an awesome sense of humor

@pszone If apple releases a console, I will be shocked. A handheld would make more sense given that Steve Job's and Apple claim that their iPods are giving Sony and Nintendo a run for their money. If apple has not joined the world of gaming to the extent of a console, I do not expect it at all. They have so many other areas going for them that type of an investment could hinder them. Google in gaming...I seriously have no clue what to say about this. I just hope they don't end up making the multiplatform edition of Farmville, Fishville, and every-thing-else-ville by backing Zynga. If they end up focusing on browser based games then I wouldn't care at all. in fact I really don't care now given how little Google has done so far in gaming.

Considering Google makes it's money from ads my guess is they will focus on casual, browser based games that are ad supported in addition to mobile games that are also ad supported. High cost full blown console type games don't seem like Google's style.

Got feeling Apple might reasle there own consle just like xbox from micriosoft and i think know in 5 years time all sites will have gaming like farmville on fb and mini games on your phone on sites

am I the last human alive who does not like Farmville and other "browser-games" ?

@SmashBrawlerBoy Apple where never in the game business, look how successful they turned out to be. I think google are trying to do the same for their browser/new netbook to make them less boring. Also they may not have thier games for a price, i mean angry birds is free on the store and lots of other things.

That's fine with me as long as they don't make stupid games like on facebook like Farmville and stuff like that.

Can't hurt to have more competition and the resources behind google, but they really sound like theyre getting into the casual market so Im really less interested.

HTML5 games? WebGL. Okay interesting technically, but I'm not really bothered otherwise, and I SERIOUSLY doubt Google will be bothered to deal with anything other than what I mentioned. (Unless - gasp - they are actually starting to look beyond the web for business opportunities)

I doubt i'll be buying my games from them, since most of my games are already on my Steam account.

@Units420 Skype has had a lot of problems lately, with not being able to log in to skype (seen in europe), And late onthey have had many problems with people not being able to connect to each other and having their status as offline... Youtube has become worse because many videos get muted and removed becuase of stupid reasons (Not gooles fault in my opinion) It is Warner Bros. who are forcing youtube to mute and remove videos with background music/radio etc. because of Copyright -.- In my opinion the only evil company is Warner Bros. for being so greedy

Please don't. Most of gaming companies are already all about money and nothing about the gamer. If google gets into this then we're officially screwed. Just like YouTube got worse ever since google, just like skype got worse since MS and things like that. I fear that if Google succeds then i'll be depending solely on Steam for gaming....

Google is dangerous and should not be trusted by the consumer base, a company should never "demand" something from its users, and I've seen they do that a couple of times. Hope they get their asses kicked by the rivals if they really get into gaming.

This might be something good folks, after all, they are all about innovation.

I love google for their search engine and android operating system and a lot of other things to but i must say i really don't know what to expect from this news, bad? good? guess i will have to wait and see.

Well since they're already getting into the whole game business, hopefully they make new interesting genre defying games. And not just more bloody farmville like games

Finally ... Its about time Google got into gaming. Now what will that bring ??? Fully open source PC gaming ??? Hope so !!!

This sounds like that announcement that Google will 'soon be manufacturing personal computers'.

Google usually makes smart moves. I think this is one of them.

Hopefully they expand and do more than just browser games.
