Registration for Epic's futuristic shooter tournament opens today at 5 p.m. Pacific; round one begins September 4.
GameSpot has actively reloaded its Gears of War Capital Punishment Tournament for a second round. Beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific today, interested GameSpot Total Access subscribers can sign up their teams for the shoot-out and compete for a cut of the $1050 in Best Buy gift certificates. In GameSpot's Capital Punishment Tournament II, 32 three-player teams will go mano a mano in execution mode, which will ensure maximum curb-stoppage, as players must finish off downed opponents in close-quarters combat.
Head over to the Capital Punishment Tournament II landing page to register for the tourney or get a complete rundown of the rules. The tournament kicks off on September 4, and the final two teams will square off live on GameSpot's Tournament TV.
Developed by Epic Games, Gears of War is a futuristic third-person shooter in which a human contingent faces off against an invading horde of aliens known as the Locust. The highly regarded Gears of War has been the recipient of a plethora of awards, including GameSpot's 2006 Game of the Year. Currently available for the Xbox 360, a PC version is also in the works.
I don't have Gamespot Total Access,so too bad I don't get some of that carnage, and a chance at that cash...oh well.
i wish they'd do a tourney for the first unreal tournament. my battle scars remind me of all those cries of people eating shells from my flak cannon. wud like to see how rusty ive become at one of the greatest games ive played. Shooters just arent wat they used to be these days. There was no greater feeling than charging 6 rockets and blasting someone into fragments the seeing his liver land infront of u. id have to admit that shredding folks with the chainsaw in gears was quite satisfying too.
i like the name 'lamestation' it perfectly describes the product. however, i prefer the following reference for the ps3; piece-o-sh*t 3! as for the GoW tourney: i'd sign up if i were a Total Access subscriber. the good thing is there are always local Gear's tourney's where i live, like this past weekend where my friend played against the 17th ranked player in the world. of course he lost.
@Morhavoc_IRL : Dont take this wordplay too serious, I just like itching this nonsense-war of the consoles. People are so sensitive when it comes down to stuff like that (which you proved when you called me an idiot... no pun intended)
@ Finstar: yeah your right GeOW is probably the best game ever made, but lamestation? i mean come on, thats the worst bit of wordplay ive ever seen ever.... and the winky face just makes you seem like more of an idiot! tourneys gonna be great!
Nice, I liked the first tournament. I hope you make another Counter Strike Tourney and a Street Fighter III.
Man, it's almost a year since this game came out and it is still a milk-cow...but hey, they deserve it, it is a great game and the graphics are still the best to date (which is sad for everybody who has spent so much money for a Lamestation 3) ;) BTW: Have you seen all the low review scores Lair has already gotten? Was'nt this one of the oh so great games all the SonyFanboys where so proud to show of with all the times...? Still waiting for that Streetfighter II tournament...
There's just so many other games out there... something new... how about a fighting game tourney? That would so rock! Or... how about a classic from the past? Oh I don't know... how about... STARCRAFT!!!
I will be signing up for the tourney...just hope I'm home from work in time before all the slots are full! P.S. anyone want to team up let me know...I'm a loner. and yes my Gears skills are straight...I'm no noob.
WTF?! A second Gears tourney? That's so unfair to all other games, especially when the last tourney was not interesting to watch as some of the other tourneys. Not to mention it's three man teams again... Honestly, if there should be a second tourney of any game, it should be Motorstorm, that was the most exciting one I've seen.
Sweet, does anyone remember Munzee from the last one? He was the one who blew himself up with a rocket launcher! That had me cracking up! Hope this one's just as good!
How does GS get anything out of Microsoft for this? Isn't Stride and things like that the only ones who produce these tournaments? And the 360 has a wider library of online games. Not that I think GoW is a good game for tournaments, but you can't just go and say "OH NOES GS ARE MICRO$OFT FANBOYZ! HATE-0rZ!" Sigh.
I'd love to sign up, but my 360 broke a while ago and I don't know when I will get a replacement. :(
gamespot isnt a MS associate or something idiots, it just so happens that the xbox 360 has a much wider array of good games than the ps3, which atm has only offered mediocre exclusives and crappy 360 ports which are better on the xbox anyway. If Sony had managed to pull the same thing off then it would be them getting talked about. And it should be curb-stompage, not stoppage
to pridex: No some people are just saying they should have chose another game as this has been done before, that's all.
Sony fanboys. COME ON. Its a freak'n tournament. It has nothing to do with MS besides its only on the xbox. If it was on the PS3 you wouldnt complain. Its a great game.
Pretty cool I guess but I would prefer to see a new tournament. Maybe a R:FOM tournament? I think that would be pretty good.
Hopefully this one doesn't suck as much as the last one, the people that are in this one should learn how to play the game, unlike the last bunch.
reviews were a little too high but the game deserved its praise anyways. it was great but i still think more adrenline could have been pumped into it
oh cool! I hope munzie makes an apperance lol ITS MUNZIE WITH THE ROCKET LAUNCHER EVERYTHINGS POSSIBLE!! XP lol that was fun to watch.
