Gaming pioneer passes away

Rest in Peace

Not many of us may actually recognize his name til now, but his contributions will probably resonate with us for a long, long time. Thanks Mr. Kotok for giving us one of the cornerstones of this great form of entertainment.

Wow. One of the original Fathers, dead. May his life be celebrated for all he has given us.

R.I.P. what would the video game industry been like without him? there probably wouldnt be one.

Pioneers of the industry have died before, such as Gunpei Yokoi(SP?)(Creator of Game Boy and Metriod) and now another pioneer. It's a part of an industry, it's a part of nature, and lastly it's a part of life. R.I.P. You had a good life, now rest. You deserve it.

This really shows how the industry is beginning to age. Hopefully many legendaries will continue to be in good health and still create quality games.

Man, why did he have to die? Why not Uwe Boll or somone else? :(

a thousand blessing on his name! dekushrub150 is right, we should educate kids in that part of history aswell, who wants to hear about some french prince in a large dress made for his sister, more Alan Kotop, less french prince!

Any gaming pioneer is a hero to me. So I give Alan Kotok a hero's salute.

I read about him in The Ultimate History of Video Games. This is very unfortunate but we all have to go sometime. This makes me realize how old video games truly are. Maybe people will begin to realize how much respect games deserve. We should all keep his legacy alive by never forgetting. Educate young kids about the beginning and how games were before PS2 and everything now, even before NES. I grew up with NES but I have an ATARI 2600 and have played Spacewar. We will never forget.

A great big "Thanks!" to Mr. Kotok and his colleagues for helping to create a revolutionary form of entertainment. Pioneers like Kotok are too often forgotten, and the world owes them an enormous debt of gratitude. Rest in peace, brother.

That's a shame. It's kind of a weird thing to think about - the pioneers of gaming aging and dying. I mean, it doesn't really seem like a very old technology, but then you got someone like Howard Scott Worschaw who was probably in his 40's when he worked on all his projects for the Atari 2600...

He will be sorely missed. Alan Kotok, we salute you. Your legacy lives on.

That's so sad. He should always be remembered as a pioneer.
